Roane County reclassification

I saw the new classes for next year. I think the only change is Harriman going to A football, with everything else staying the same. Rockwood is for sure in AA next year. So where does this leave the "oldest rivalary in Tennessee?" I'm sure Rockwood and Harriman will always schedule each other, but will it lose a little bit of the flavor if it no longer changes the Region standings? I believe the 1997 season saw a 3 way tie between Sweetwater Rockwood and Harriman with the last game of the season being the RHS@HHS for 1st place. There won't ever be that intensity to it anymore. The will still be in A basketball/baseball. So the rivalary will not die, but I don't think it will burn quite as bright.

Oliver Springs will be single A in basketball and baseball also.

Really? Wow I didn't think that would happen to them. They'll probably have to redo district 4A then. That might put Rockwood in district 3A would make the most geographical sense. So 3A could be Rockwood, Midway, Greenback, Cosby and maybe CAK?(or are they in AA baseball/basketball) hmm I dont think that looks so good. Of course putting OS in district 3 when they have natural rivals of Wartburg and Coalfield in District 4 wouldnt make a lot of sense either.

The enrollment numbers for RHS and HHS have changed a lot since last year. Rockwood is well over 400 now and Harriman in in the low 300s. Rockwood has a very large frehmen class this year and they just keep getting larger. No idea why Harriman has lost so much enrollment.

In basketball, I think OS would be sent to District 3-A before Rockwood. Grace Academy in Knoxville will go District 3-A also which could put OS in 4A.

If TSSAA didnt want to split up an established district they would put OS into 3-A, but a district with OS and Cosby would be a very large district. The only reason I thought they might move Rockwood is its distance away from Oneida and the Morgan Co Schools compared to OS.

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
