hixson ran it for a year, and then the coach received a new job in georgia... now they run the wing t. i hated the veer. it was so easy to defend. we strictly ran the option out of it, and the defenses could scheme against it so easily.

The veer is easy to defend, but you have to defend it every play.

The split veer is Easy to defend if you only run option and full flow plays. That where most split Veer teams fail. You have to run enough counter, Trap and Counter option plays to keep the defense from teeing off on any action. Plus you have to formation themn to death.

I don't know which one of you guys said Georgia Southern, but that is the offense that I would be running if I were in a tough region with a bunch of athletic teams. Athletic ability is great and all, but it is limited when a team has to defend the option offense. Georgia Southern runs a doule wing offense and watching them execute the option is like watching a clinic. Georgia Southern uses lots of motion to throw the defenses off as to where the play is going. For instance, here are some possiblilities that can happen from their bringing a wing in motion:

1.) They can run the triple option, which involves the quarterback, fullback, and motion man.

2.) They can run a counter option, where they bring a win in motion then unexpectadly run the option back to the side where he came in motion from.

3.) They can run a basic toss sweep play where the quarterback pitches it to the motion man.

4.) They can run a speed option where the motion man becomes an extra blocker for the dowm line option between the quarterback and fullabck.

5.) They can motion the slot one way, then run the counter trap to the fullack to catch the linebackers out of position.

Georgia Southern has ran this offense for many years and they are still successful at doing so. Georgia Southern is coached by Mike Sewak, who served as an assistant under Paul Johnson (who is currently at Navy). Navy has ran this offense for the past two seasons, which in case you guys are wondering the Midshipmen are currently an 8-2 football team (one of those losses being to Notre Dame). Georgia Southern ran this offense in their season opener againt Georgia and really rolled up some big yardage against the Bulldogs defense. I think that the final score to the game was like 41-28, which is pretty darn respectable for a 1-AA team playing in front of 90,000+ fans "Between the Hedges".

This offense turns an agressive defense into a read & react type of team. If the agressive defense chooses to play aggressively (which means that they run lots of blitzing schemes) then they will lose, end of story. If I ever get the opportunity to meet Georgia defensive end David Pollack, who is like a three time All-American, then I want to ask him how he liked trying to defend the Georgia Southern offense. He would be the first to tell you that a defensive end might have 30 big hits in a game against the option, but in the end they will wind up with a total of zero tackles for the game. The defensive line should never guess right.

I'd like to see more counter action and I believe you have to be able to chuck the ball a bit to keep from getting 9 man boxes...A person can overdue the offense and make it a rambling wreck.

Coach Ken Colquitte is the best split back veer coach in the state. Some of the things they would do was amazing.Four state championships how can you argue!

    • If y’all lose to Farragut something awful has happened.
    • Get him to Bearden ASAP! Or anywhere, Karns hs is in rough shape, probably not getting out of it anytime soon.
    • I'm not a Powell grad.  I am a Bearden grad.   My son and daughter are Powell grads.   I did radio play by play for Powell, my last year was 2013. I also did radio play by play for South Doyle, and my last gig was at Maryville before I retired.   My oldest grandson plays in the Karns Middle program, so I see more Karns games than I do Powell these days.  I've been to 3 Powell games since 2013.   I don't have any ties to Powell, haven't since 2013.   No "y'all" there.    And the kid you are talking about does have a very good arm, but he's not the QB that Deuce Rogers is.  Rogers is a legit dual threat guy.  The younger kid now at Clinton, or about to be at Clinton, isn't the dual threat that Rogers is.
    • No sir. I watched it specifically and it was very dirty. He cleated the boy on purpose. Apparently, it’s an issue in football as well from what several schools have said. That said, looking forward to a good game 3. ER hit it well in game 2.
    • He is the transfer. 5star spoke on him in their new qb1 series. Didn’t list em as a transfer but I knew the name
