5A in Memphis area

Don't think they moved anyone that was already in 5A...just added Ridgeway and Craigmont to Region 7 and Wooddale to Region 8. More teams in the region will make it harder to get into the playoffs - the 4th place team from region 7 this year was 2-8. This year, region 8 seemed to be much tougher with playoff berths coming down to the last game and teams being in do or die situations...if they won, they were first, if they lost they were 5th! Region 8 dominated region 7 in the playoffs, winning all 4 first round games.

I know all the county people are upset they didn't get the city/county split...

How do you think about these 2 regions will play out next year?

The assignments of the newly added schools to 5A from 4A in Memphis happened just like I said it would earlier. See the link below.

I think Woodale, in their present state, adds nothing to region 8 competative wise, just another region game. Ridgeway and Craigmont totally change the perspective of region 7. No more 2-8 teams make it to the playoffs in region 7. Ridgeway will be a top contender in region 7 the first year out of the gate! There is a new sheriff in town in region 7! Cordova, Millington, Bolton, Ridgeway, and Craigmont will be the contenders next year ... one of the 5 will stay home. The bar has been raised in region 7!

I think region 7 will represent next year in the playoffs as well. Top to bottom, region 7 has become more competative then it was.

Yeah it was disappointing we didnt get all the county schools in one region. Does anyone know why they didn't do that? It seems like an excellent plan to me. Anyway, region 7 competition will be much more heated next year with ridgeway and craigmont as somebody else said. But don't count Bartlett out, they are a decent program, just have had a few off years. If they get their act together, it could be a six way race

Bartlett had the youngest *AND* slowest team I've ever seen in 5A this year. Down the stretch, the (junior) quarterback finally figured out how to get big yardage on the ground, and Bartlett played REALLY good football down the stretch. If they'd started where they finished, they would have won a few more football games.

Don't count them out of being pretty solid next year. They've got a lot of speed coming in as sophomores, and their QB is pretty similar to Collierville's Brian Hall in terms of his skill set.

No disrespect intended ... but I don't think the demise of the Bartlett program has anything to do with the skill level of the players on the team. Just my opinion.

Realistically, 5A west teams have no prayer against Riverdale, Oak Ridge and Dobyns Bennett.  One of these teams will bring the gold ball back east.

Huh? This thread isn't even about that. Its about reclassification!!! But since you want to talk....

No one thought we had a chance "realistically" last year either. Personally, we like it that way.

Reading the article about the G-town/Collierville game gave me chill bumps just thinking about the G-town big red machine rolling like days past. I remember thinking when I saw them lose to Whitehaven earlier in the season, that as soon as that sophmore QB matured, G-town would be a team to be reckoned with. I'm going to pick them over Houston. I just think they have a better overall team then Houston. Houston's defense is rather outstanding ... but I'm not impressed with their offense ... in fact ... you could say their offense is rather offensive. Houston is here due to their stellar defense, but the ride will end this Friday. I do expect that game to be a slobberknocking slugfest, but I think G-town gets sweet redemption in a muddy, sloppy wet, hardhitting game!
