There is still a slight chance by some miracle of God that the season will be saved. Then again, I also could be President tomorrow. I was part of the group supporting the owners at the start of all this. A salary cap looks like a good idea. It works in the NFL. But I also understand the concept of compromise. The players proposed a dramatic compromise. But the owners rejected it with another salary cap plan. This week, the players made the effort to jump-start talks again- the owners failed again. They're on the verge of losing many many many fans. I'm not one of them. I'll be back in an NHL arena somewhere whenever we get hockey back. Will it be next season? Maybe this time next year. Likely? We'll see.

 

I'm just glad I got my picture taken with the Stanley Cup when I could. Who knows when we'll see it again. :rolleyes:

Personally, I usually come down on the players' side. It won't cost me any less to go to games, and I'd rather see the owners get the money.

Err...uh...how the heck did I mistype that? I'd rather see the PLAYERS get the money. I don't go to Blues games for the Lauries, I go to see Pronger, MacInnis, and company.

Or maybe not a lost season??? The NHL called and ask the NHLPA to meet again. Daly was shocked by the players' reaction from last week's meetings, saying that he felt they were the most dynamic yet and felt there was some good progress. We won't know much about these meetings... they want to keep it hush-hush. For some reason, I like that.

 

GIVE US BACK OUR HOCKEY!!!

Here is a piece of information that may or may not have any meaning other than something to be optimistic about.  The Preds are working on a Media Guide for a short season.  At least they think there is a chance of playing this year!

I think that chance just went out the window yesterday during the labor talks. Nothing good came from four hours of talks! The NHLPA attorney said that the players are not going to accept anything resembling a salary cap. This could kill hockey all together, if not, at least for a few years. Just when they finally got the attention of many Americans, they are going to end it! :D

I'm with the players on this one. Salary caps are stupid, especially for what the NHL is trying to do, which is to limit costs.

 

Here's advice from a professional know-it-all for how to limit costs: DON'T SPEND MONEY! If the owners don't want to pay $30 million a year, they don't need a $29.9 million salary cap to keep them from spending 30!

I understand where both sides are coming from on this, but, if they do institute a salary cap in the end, they may want to look at all the mistakes that were made when the big three sports started it. The NFL's cap was a joke for years, because it only restricted the yearly payroll snd didn't address front loading contracts. A player could only be making 4 mil a year on paper, but they would get some insane figure for a signing bonus, like Troy Aikman got 40 mil in a signing bonus that didn't figure into the cap. Basically making the cap worthless.

 

I'm with you on you take as far as cost cutting measures go. The only thing wrong with it is that the $$ teams will buy championships just like the 97 Marlins did. Does anyone know if the NHL practices revenue sharing like football, wherein all teams are guaranteed X amount of $$?

 

I just wish they could come to some sort of an agreement. I can't understand how you can have meeting after meeting like Thursday's and not make any progress whatsoever! :huh:

      And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…

      Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.

      Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.

      After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.

      Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
