Carlton Flatt's Quote re. BA/Giles

In this morning's paper, Joe Biddle quotes the BA AD as stating : "This is the greatest night in Brentwood Academy history".....ummmm....ok....it was a non region game against a team that you beat on their home floor a few weeks ago, on a Tuesday night. Let's see if there's anything else. Oh yes - two very good teams that were well coached with two very good players.

 

But the GREATEST NIGHT IN THE HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL ?????

 

The school probably grossed $35,000 after expenses (which I don' t think is split), they got to use the gym free of charge (thanks more than likely to the fact that Kevin Stalling's son is on the team), they got the concession money -Is this why it was the greatest night ??? Maybe that's why. Hope he was misquoted.

Or, HEY, here is a theory!!! You have basically no actual facts to fuel your post.

 

They did not get the gym for free. It cost 2K, which is a discount. You have no clue what so ever regarding the gate receipts. BA students and admin did not pay for instance. Hunters Lane High School manned the concession stand. I am sure the atmosphere, the great men in attendance and the money all figured in to Coach Flatt's opinion about the night. After 35 years of "Brentwood Academy nights" Coach Flatt is more than qualified to give an opinion. You have demonstrated (based on your lack of regard for relevant facts) that you are not.

OK....so they grossed 30,000 last night. My bad. The person at the gate told me that BA got the concession money.

 

But again I ask - The greatest night in the history of the school ?

It was defnately a great night for Giles County, even with the loss. I doubt that I will ever see get to see Giles County play in that type of environment against that type of team anytime soon. With the publicity that both schools received, I would say that it was a win/win for everyone. The celebs and the fans definately got there money's worth. And the teams got some memories that most will remember for a lifetime.

USA1--- I agree, the students from both sides were into it, as they should be. As was everyone else. But after the game, I saw nothing class from both sides. Heck, a lot of the BA fans were having Tyler pose for pictures with Brandon. I think that was great, as long as those pictures don't find there way into photoshop threads.LOL Those were four great game's the last two years, and good luck the rest of the way. I do hope Giles passes on playing BA next year though.

I am not a Carlton Flatt fan but if I was an AD and my basketball team was playing in front of 6,000+ fans in a college gym, I would be excited too!

I was caught off guard by the quote also, I assumed possibly the overtime football win over MBA two years ago, or maybe one of his 9 state championships would qualify as the greatest night in BA sports history. There is always the possibility of a mis-quote, which I hear are very common in The Tennessean or that Flatt was just trying to show some love for the basketball team-which is a classy thing to do, either way I don't think a huge deal should be made about it.

I agree with you. It can be puzzling, depending on how you look at it. I understand that the whole idea to move it to Vandy was his idea. So, he threw this big "party", with some doubters (even internally) and it was a huge success with many people (including some VIP's) coming and having a great time. With this being said, I think he made the statement at the height of his excitement at the conclusion of a win and the obvious success of HIS big "party". This is all theoretical, of course.

      Defending 2A state Champs Westview Lady Chargers are pretty tough. They lost a bunch of production off last year's squad but returned some talent as well. They still McCall Simms, a Tennesseee Lady Vol softball commit as well as solid talent around the diamond. I dont think they are as good as last season but they will definitely be a tough out. Huntingdon Lady Mustangs seem to be pretty stout as well. Don't know much about Riverside other than Westview defeated them earlier in regions. West Tennessee softball is pretty solid all around id say.

      Eagleville couldn’t catch up to Jones, he did have his location issues but in that game Eagleville popped up everything and the one hit they did have could have been ruled an error. Jeffcoat was a lot sharper in the beginning of the season last year than the end. ER ran out of pitching and still was in striking distance but none the less the better team one. Last seasons tournament was A LOT more balanced and talented. South Pitts starter is a Lefty who was low 80’s but couldn’t maintain his velo throughout the  outing, their #2 was more impressive last year, we knocked him around this year and his mph was down some. Their #3 isn’t bad neither, throws a lot of strikes and sits high 70’s.

      He actually had a really solid spring.  I could see him getting some backup snaps on offense and be a regular on special teams.  Really athletic kid who can run.
