  1. 1. Region 4AA Tournament

At halftime Mater Dei leads 33-32. Mater Dei star soph is being held in check yet their 4yr starter pg already has 17. For BA the scoring is pretty even. Wright has already thrown it down 3 times. BA is playing well and knows they can win now. Anything is possible this second half.

Where are you getting your updates? Internet or contact at the game?

This would be a big win for Tennessee.

Ensworth will need them:

2/3/05:    MBA 45, Ensworth 39 (8th grade game)

2/3/05:    MBA 51, Ensworth 27 (7th grade game)

1/31/05:  MBA 34, Ensworth 21 (freshman game)

1/21/05:  MBA 50, Ensworth 23 (7th grade game)

12/14/04: MBA 27, Ensworth 14 (freshman game)

Whether MBA improves in varsity hoops or not is debatable, but an MBA kid leaving for Ensworth is much less likely than an Ensworth kid leaving for MBA.  Maybe the non-MBA and non-Ensworth kids may make a difference, but seeing that neither school has filled its next freshman class yet, I do not see how EHS is "getting most of the good players".

But, I digress as well.

I wasn't very clear on my side note. When I said "getting most of the good players", I meant currently during admissions. I realize that Ensworth's freshmen class would not affect this years varsity that much. I don't know if you are aware of the their 6th grade team, but it is a power house and has crushed everyone including BA. These kids would be shoe-ins to MBA in the past - but not now. Their 8th grade team is very good, as well, but so is MBA's. They have 2 players on that 8th grade team better than anyone on MBA or BA's team. They may or may not have gone to MBA if Ensworth was not around. I don't know for sure. But Ricky landed them for the Tigers.

Fair enough. Ensworth will be a factor in many sports, but it will take a few years.

Anybody have an update on the BA game?

Just doing a little research on Mater Dei as I wait for an update, check out this team's credentials and look at the size of their basketball staff, 13 people in all!

The 2003-04 CIF semifinalist Monarchs, under the guidance of Coach Gary McKnight, have enjoyed tremendous academic and athletic success over the past 22 years. Coach McKnight has led the Monarchs to five state championships, 17 CIF championships, 21 league championships, and an overall record of 663-62. The Monarchs average over 30 wins a season. Coach McKnight is the winningest coach in Orange County boys' basketball history. In addition to the team success, nine players have been named CIF Player of the Year and many more have gone onto successful college careers.

The boys' basketball program offers five teams.

Varsity

Gary McKnight – Head Coach

Bob Servin – Associate Head Coach

Jason Quinn '90 – Assistant Coach

Sean Stevenson – Assistant Coach

Chris Abeyta – Assistant Coach

Junior Varsity

Jack Tuz – Co-head Coach
