Page led after the 1st qtr., 12-7, as L. Young had 5 with a three and 2 of 2 FT's, Bagsby hit a three, Harmon had 2, and K. Young hit 2 of 2 FT's while GC's Coleman had 4, Alj. Ewing had 2, and Young hit 1 of 2 FT's. In the 2nd qtr., GC outscored Page, 8-6, as Young had 6 with 2 of 2 FT's, and Alj. Ewing has 2 with 0 of 3 FT's while Page's Bagsby had 3 with 1 of 2 FT's, Morton had 2, and K. Young hit 1 of 2 FT's as Page led at the half, 18-15. In the 3rd qtr., GC outscored Page, 9-6, as Young had 4, both Ewing sisters had 2 each, and Coleman hit 1 of 2 FT's while Page's Bagsby and Spencer each had 2 and K. Young hit 2 of 2 FT's as the game was tied, 24-24, after 3 qtrs. In the 4th qtr., GC outscored Page, 20-19, as Young had 8 with 4 of 4 FT's, Coleman had 6 with a three and 1 of 2 FT's, Brewer hit a three, and Alj. Ewing hit 3 of 4 FT's (including the two game winning FT's with 0.8 secs. remaining) while Page's Morton had 6, Bagsby had 5 with 1 of 1 FT's, Harmon had 4, and the Young twins each had 2 as GC won, 44-43.

The game was decided in the final sec. as Page was called for a foul after a missed FT by Alj. Ewing resulted in a scramble for the ball. Alj. Ewing then hit both ends of a 1 and 1 to win the game. The officiating was terrible all night as several calls were missed on both ends of the floor, but it seemed that GC had the advantage from several no calls as Page drove to the basket. Page however had everything called on them when GC drove to the basket. The icing on the cake was the last sec. call in the scramble for a rebound. The ref with the glasses better watch his back if I ever see him again.

GC's Vee Young had another great game against Page as she didn't miss many shots including 7 of 8 FT's and Aljanise Ewing hit the FT's when it mattered. Page's Bagsby did well with her 13 pts. and 5 assists and Ana Morton had a good game with her 8 pts., but Page needed some double digit scoring from the others.

The flying V has struck again!!! Just wait until the GC offense is designed to take full advantage of her work. As I have watched Vee grow into a strong contender, I am very happy to say that her attitude and work ethic have never been better. I still say she could stand to be a little meaner, but Mom knows best

Good Luck Giles County and Best Of Luck To The Flying V

As for the district tournament, only 3 of the 6 seeds are set: #1 Loretto (9-1), #5 Lewis Co. (3-7), & #6 Fairview (currently 0-9). Marshall Co. (currently 5-3), Giles Co. (currently 5-3), and Page (currently 5-4) still have district games to play with Page at Marshall and Giles at Fairview on Friday and Marshall at Giles on Tues., Feb. 15. After those games are completed, we'll have clearer picture of what lies ahead for the district tournament at Fairview. Whoever ends up at #3 will have a tough game with Fairview at Fairview as they will have the home court advantage. At this point, Loretto appears to be the favorite, but will the long drive to Fairview affect their play? I'll post the district tournament matchups late Tuesday night after the final district game and have further comments.

    • The people need our help!
    • Lol when was last time they won region or got past the 3 rd round.
    • Gravedigger gotta finish filling the hole before hitting 40 East. May need a new Yellow Shirt play signaler on the Stones. And apparently a new strength coach now. Cicadas must've got shaken out of the bushes in Donelson. Hopefully the mower man sticks around to keep DG field looking pristine. Maybe new OC can call in a favor to his PGA friends that knows a thing or two about being green during the season. The heat is on soon. Bring in the 2 way freak Iceman and cool things off. He knows a thing or 2 about wildcats. Gotta take our talents South soon for Nationals. Don't step on my blue suede shoes.
