D-2 Individual State needs to go away!

I just finished looking at the D-2 brackets compared to the D-1. I know there are some great wrestlers at the D-2 but the brackets are a joke. I would bet that 95% of the D-2 fans can name who the kids will be in the finals.

To be a State Qualifer or to place 4-6 is a joke AT D-2.

I say bring all the kids together for the indivdual State and keep the duals the way they were this year. :justwrestle:

They broke it into DI and DII so DI could keep some dignity. Otherwise they would be giving all the gold to DII.

Good baiting Jag but that dog want hunt. I checked back to the beginings and it's close to 50/50. After U get by the 1-2 i D-2 the qual of skill and comp drops.

Need to research your research, Rig. Mine shows more like 60-40, DII.

It's all how you look at it. Here is 5 yrs prior to the split. :( Looks like A D-1 domination prior to the split. Thats not the point anyway. It's the lack of comp after the 1-2nd in D-2. You can be average in D-2 and place year in and year out. The D-1 kids go through a battle to place.

1996 John Overton 188.5

1995 Red Bank 156

1994 Cleveland 136.5

1993 McCallie 184.5

152lb prior to split

1997 John Overton Eric Jordan

1996 John Overton Eric Jordan

1994 Father Ryan Vince Mondelli

1993 Bradley Central Israel Heil

1992 Red Bank Israel Allen

1991 McCallie John Wunderlich

1990 Hixson Todd Wheeler

I was wrong! It's 77% D-2 here.

Funny you used the word "give". That's what there doing in D-II GIVING medals away to most of the kids that place after the Championship Match.

Rigger, at least those DII kids that might get 4-6 have the balls to step on the mat with Baylor, McCallie, Ryan, MBA, Notre Dame and CBHS with out crying, moaning and calling for a SPLIT. So take your baiting stick it.

How is it that "private schools" get caught cheating. A split comes about, and all of a sudden, its all the DI coaches " crying, moaning and calling for a SPLIT" ??? Somebody please explain that to me.

I would dare to say that maybe the brackets are little bit less competitive in D2 but almost all the D2 state champs could beat the D1 state champs. D2 has a better top 2 than D1 has.

103: Alsobrook wins D2

112: Coleman wins D1

119: Dunning wins D2

125: Manson wins D2

130: Oddo wins D2

135: Felix wins D1

140: Cleveleand wins D2

145: Waddell wins D2

152: Hannah Wins D1

160: Marable wins D2

171: Knox wins D1

189: Meredith wins D1

215: Reviez wins D1

275: Gordon wins D2

Score is D2: 8 D1:6

May be some errors but that is how it would come out.

Again close too 50/50. You have proved my point. Thanks!

Folks, I have family ties to Father Ryan so I'm not attacking the private School system. I have Cousins who were State Champs under both the DII system and when was all one. They won their Championships 2 years apart. It would be grand to have 1 Champ who had to travel the same path.

Good luck to all, I'm on my way to the round house.
