Freshmen on the Varsity field.

It certainly does depend on the kid: Several factors. 1. physical maturity 2. age 3. attitude.

One loophole I wish the TSSAA would fix/prevent is parents from neighboring states, holding their kids back 1 to 2 years (!!) and then sending them across the state line to play as a "freshman" until they are too old in TN, then transferring back to their home state to finish their "career". Pretty solid rumor that Dobyns Bennett is getting a freshman from Gate City VA, this year, that was held back two years, soley for sports. I hear he's driving in 8th grade. haha! He will be to old to play as a senior here, so he will simply skip back to Gate City. Gate City, in general has been notorious for holding kids back for years and years. Its a shame on the parents and all the schools in both states.

Coaches son? That is probably not the kid you are talking about but I watched some travel basketball over the past few months and one of the centers who is a very impressive fellow for a middle schooler (from Gate City) was rumored to be considering D-B where I understand his dad is a coach. Still had not made the decision yet but he'll be a good one either way he goes.

    • Yes this process is moving slower than I would have expected
    • also was told coady auston applied, he served as defensive coordinator for greenfield under don pitt several years ago before going to Obion county
    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental.    i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
    • Are you trying to say you didn't find Seven and ShadySlim going at it?
