Big Games in Memphis - Week 6

According to CoachT, Ridgeway won that game by a 14 point margin of victory. But hey, that was last year.

Yes it was 14 points.  I was operating from memory.  The final score was 28-14.  MUS dug themselves a 14 point hole early, then was about to cut it to 14-7 but instead threw an interception and Ridgeway went ahead 21-0.  The Owls never recovered fully obviously.  FWIW it is the only time Ridgeway has beaten MUS in 11 tries.

Curiously, the Owls dug themselves a 14-0 hole in the first minute tonight after only 2 plays from scrimmage.  However, it has been all MUS since, and is 30-14 at half.  The starting QB for MUS was knocked out in the first quarter.  The Owls shifted to an all running offense from  their usual pass dominated offense and Ridgeway has had no answer.

From the Commercial Appeal

(t-3) MUS 40, (5) Ridgeway 22:

It was all Owls (6-0) after the Roadrunners scored on their first two plays from scrimmage. Bradley Foley had three touchdown runs and backup quarterback Bobby Wade ran for 132 yards and a score. The MUS defense set a school record, holding the Roadrunners to minus-20 yards on the ground. Ridgeway (4-2) led 14-0 after the first minute as Tyrique Sandusky (279 yards) threw a 73-yard pass to Vincent Taylor on the first play and then a 7-yarder to Kundarrius Taylor after recovering an Owls fumble on the ensuing kickoff.

KWC

I know I wasn't in the first two weeks and have been terrible but can you add me to the totals list.

DM

DM:

I use to do that in the past but it's just too much work to keep up with all of that. However, my main reason for not including your numbers in the overall standing is because it's not fair to the ones who have been making game selections from day one. You didn't have to select in approximately 40-45 games then what everybody else has had to do. That would directly affect your overall status. It's just easier for me to do things when everyone is working from the same number of total games. It just easier on me that way. Remember, I do this just for giggles and kicks ... i'm not trying to make it any more tedious then what it has to be.

The regular season will be soon over and then BGIM will start all over in the post season. If you hand around for that then you can be included in the Overall standings when we do that.

Prep players of the week for Week 6

September 28, 2016 @ 10:49 p.m.

preps-generic.jpg

By John Varlas of The Commercial Appeal

OFFENSE

Brandon Willis, Overton junior: The 5-8, 170-pounder ran for a season-high 248 yards on 27 carries, scored three touchdowns and added two 2-point conversion runs as the Wolverines defeated MAHS 32-22 to improve to 3-2.

DEFENSE

Cedric Henderson, Raleigh-Egypt junior: Henderson played a huge role in a 41-19 victory over St. Benedict that extended the Pharaohs' school-best start to 6-0. He had two sacks and recovered three fumbles, returning one for a touchdown.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Calvin Austin, Harding senior: You could almost put Austin in any category after his monster effort in a 48-7 victory over Magnolia Heights. His special teams scores came on a 62-yard punt return and a 99-yard kickoff return and he also got into the end zone on 18- and 15-yard runs and an 18-yard interception return.

Corey Jones, St. George's senior: Jones scored on kickoff returns of 90 and 69 yards in a 61-20 victory over Hamilton. In addition, he caught four passes for 88 yards (touchdowns of 57 and 8 yards) as the Gryphons improved to 4-2.
