  1. I'm not an East Nashville fan. I follow Maplewood. But even so, I rarely travel for more than an hour from my home to see a game. In fact, I rarely travel more than an hour to see any high school game. Back when the championship games were played in Nashville, and then later Murfreesboro, I would often go and watch games as a casual observer. Now that that the games are in Cookeville I will only travel that far if I have a particular interest in a team; even more so now that I can watch the games online.
  2. From the video on NFHS Network here is what I saw: 1: On the next to the last play Maplewood had just made a first down on the Marshall County 21 yard line with less than a minute to play. MW lines up in the "victory formation" to run the clock out. MC surges aggressively as the ball is snapped, pushing the O-line back, knocking the MW QB (4) down while trying to take a knee. MC calls its final time out with 43 seconds left on the game clock. 2: On the last play MW lines up in the "victory formation" again. On the snapped MC pushes the O-line back again as MW QB is trying to take a knee. An officials blows whistle as the QB backs from the piles thinking that the QB knee was down. But QB runs away from the pile towards the MC sideline and is pursued by the MC defense. To be clear, the MW QB is not running full speed. He is just sort of stride skipping as player might do when going into the end zone after having outran the defense. Just before the QB runs out of bounds he stiff arms the facemask a MC DB (15) who is trying to tackle him. The MC DB retaliates, and three of his teams members surround the MW QB and begin pushing him. That is when players from MW show up and a bit of a scuffle ensues. It last for less than ten seconds. Not the riot some people make it out to be. Some might say that Marshall County could have just seceded they game after the last Maplewood first down was made deep in their territory. Some may also say that there was no need to stiff arm the DB. I guess there's enough blame to go around. Like most things in life, it's not all that one-sided.
  3. The Hilltoppers have a better than average passing game. But their defense is not very good. The defense is particularly susceptible to the power run game. Hillwood turned the ball over on their first two possessions of the second half. At that point Gallatin was able to grind the game out and pull away.
  4. I'm thinking the same thing about White House.
  5. Tullahoma is taking up Spring Hill's slack. Nolensville appears to be just as good as last year. Marshall County is down. But the did beat a Shelbyville team that some think will do well in the 5A playoffs. And they also took Cane Ridge to overtime in a loss. So while Marshall County may not be as good as last season, they haven't dropped off as much as Spring Hill.
  6. East Nashville, at 5-0, has had two good wins, and three wins against teams that have a combined record of 3-12. When I saw the Eagles they didn't have much of a passing game. But they have some speedy backs. I really don't know enough about either team to make a call. But considering that it's a non-region game (with Giles County up week for the Eagles), and East has to travel two hours (to another time zone, no less), that may give the winning edge to Brainerd.
  7. I mentioned in another thread that I thought that most teams in Region 5 had improved this season. Last season it was Springfield and White House, then a big drop off. This season, Springfield is still likely at the top (we'll see). But the drop off from 2 -5 is not as steep. Overall, the region is more competitive and where good coaches would like their region to be. Having said that, I don't see them sweeping Region 6 in the playoffs. I see another 2-2 outcome in the first round. On the other hand, had Region 5 played Region 3 in last season's playoff I would have expected a 2-2 outcome. But this season I think Region 5 could make it 3-1, in their favor. On the third hand (there's almost always at least three hands to every story), had Region 5 played Region 4 last season I see Region 5 going 1-4 against Region 4. And so far this season I still see Region 5 going 1-4 against Region 4. Putting it all together, I see Region 5 as having gone from being WEAK to becoming AVERAGE. And that's a good place for any region to be.
  8. I believe Swarm is a Fairview fan. And you are an unabashed apologist. Trying to say "other people were speeding" doesn't eliminate a wrong.
  9. I knew you were alluding to a coaching change. And I was being a bit facetious, even though my point about classification success is factually valid.
  10. Maybe move back up to 5A? Over the past ten years Lawrence County has had better success in 5A versus 4A. 4A has been brutal.
  11. 3rd place may be a struggle. Montgomery Central and Portland are looking a lot better this season. Just about every team in the region (beside Heritage) is looking better this season.
  12. Why? Because their defense is not shutting down opponents that well this season. Top Williamson County teams usually have great offenses. It's going to be a struggle for the Ravens to outscore them if they can't shut them down.
  13. If FootballGod is a player he may need to get back home first so he can get on his mom's computer.
  14. People may say that I'm hating, but I'm thinking that Cane Ridge's current defense won't get them far in the post-season; maybe into the third round. Offensively they seem to be fine. But defense wins championships.
  15. Their fans can then come on here and brag about being the top team in White House.
  16. Heritage may be White House's best chance for a region win this season.
  17. According to Wikipedia: East Tennessee: 156 per square mile West Tennessee: 140 per square mile Middle Tennessee: 121 per square mile. So while Middle and West may have greater overall populations, East Tennessee is denser.
  18. Density is not just a total number. It is the total number of objects divided by area or volume.
  19. I am not disagreeing with that point. But they are more people living in East Tennessee, and more areas with greater concentration of people than West Tennessee. There is a lot of wide open areas with only small towns in West Tennessee. Cities and towns are closer together, and larger, in East Tennessee. If you were just saying that Memphis is the most densely populated part of the state I might have agreed with you. But you said West Tennessee, which includes just about every county west of the Tennessee River.
  20. West Tennessee is not densely populated. Outside of Madison and Shelby counties there are no cities above 50,000. East Tennessee is more densely populated that West Tennessee.
  21. Seeding is a very subjective thing. In NCAA basketball seeding has to be implemented because their is no standardize conferences that makes pairing all teams easy. That not the case in the TSSAA.
  22. If FootballGod is actually a player for White House I suspect he is either a Freshman, or possibly a Sophomore, who never personally experienced the lean and humbling seasons of 2015 & 2016.
  23. So a 16-14 win is now considered to be a butt kicking? Speaking of soft, it's a shame that White House wasn't able to get Whites Creek on their schedule along with Glencliff and Hunters Lane.
