  1. Smyrna does NOT take it as a slap to the face.
  2. BTW Gaston NEVER started as a Freshman.
  3. Did you honestly just post that BRYSON is is NOT Gaston Miller. I hope you are referring to the fact that Bryson is better. I remind you that Bryon was only a FRESHMAN last year, while Gaston got LITTLE if ANY playing time as a Freshman. If I remember correctly Gaston did not even continue the Varsity season with Riverdale, but instead went to play Baskeball as a Freshman. Not only did Bryson complete a full season as a starte, but he also led his team to the BLUE CROSS BOWL and was the MVP.
  4. Coach Shad left some really big shoes to fill. And no matter who would have got the job, people would have said that coach was not good enough for the job. Coach Williams is a good man and will be successful at Smyrna. It is pure and simple, people will always resist change. Players are going to say they are not going to come back and parents and fans will say the same; however, at the end of the day they endeed will. Yes it may be a little bumpy at first, but people will see that this man truly cares about his players.
  5. I can honestly say Smyrna deserved to win the game, but Bearden was a very good team. Bearden did not score to mid way in the fourth quarter. However they had a heck of a comeback attempt. A few thoughts about the officials: 1) I saw the second onside kick and I can confirm 100% that Torrez did not come down with the ball. However, on the video you can not tell who recovers the ball. And remember it is not who comes out of the pile with the ball, but instead it is who has possesion of the ball first. The referee made the call very quick and made the call with alot of confidence, and you can see that on video. I don't feel anybody on here had a view they can confirm 100% who recovered the fumble. Even if instant replay was available I don't think the call would have been overturned. I have not seen one conclusive video. 2) Who is to say Bearden wins even if they did indeed recovered the kick. 3) I had a pretty good view and the Bearden player was indeed out of bounds. It was not even that close. I think the official emphasized his call to much causing alot of the controversy. He was in great position to make the call. I feel he made the correct call. I think the photo show this, but if you were looking at it from another point of view you could see it different. 4) Bearden should have never got the ball back at the end. The clock should have started when the referee gave the ready to play after a defensive penalty in that scenario. That was probably the worse call of the game, because it was not a lack of judgement. It was simply a case of ignorance. The referee should have known how to apply the rule in that scenario. It really could have been a big deal. However it was a brillant call by Smyrna Bearden you guys had a great season and should be really proud of your guys. I know alot of Smyrna fans are telling you to shut up and stop whinning about the officials. I think they mean good, but you guys can complain all you want. Smyrna fans would be whinning if they would have lost last night as well. Its called having a competitive heart and believing that your the best team on the field. Thats what championship teams are made of. Use it to fuel your offseason fire and get back there next year. I however disagree with and think in no way did the West Tennessee referees try to steal the game away from Bearden. I am a Smyrna fan, but I try to look at things as balanced as I can. I love watching the game for what it is. And it was a good one.
  6. Correction scrimmages are pratices used to simulate game like situations. Scrimmages can be used to evaluate where the team stands, what works and doesn't work and individual players. As a result, a coach may try new plays, new players. It seems very obvious Smyrna does not care about the results of scrimmages, but rather evaluating players, trying new plays, and sets. Congratulations on drilling Smyrna in a scrimmage, but maybe next year Maplewood should concentrate on the season and not scrimmages.
  7. Congratulations to Rod for making the All-Combine Team, 1st Team Offense. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=2&c=607847
  8. Why would they not ask for money to help cut down the cost of the rings. Would it not be terrible to see a kid unable to pay for a ring. I would not consider it begging for money, but simply asking the community for donations to ease the burden. If you don't want to donate, that is absolutely your choice, but if you want to help these kids who worked so hard to earn them then do it. I'm not sure where the money of Coach Shads check will go, but I can assure you Coach Shadowens has given alot over the years to Smyrna High School. If you only knew of some of the sacrafices he has made. I think the community would love the burden of backing champions year after year, but I also know the community will back Smyrna no matter what.
  9. Smyrna did not steal anyones slogan. The coach challenged his team to belive, and his challenge resulted in a slogan I Believe. Some fans changed it to We Believe. And to say Smyrna did it to muss up your head is crazy, it started in the pregame speach before Riverdale... and trust me Smyrna was not looking foward to a rematch against Ravenwood at that point. This arguement has to be one of the stupidest CoachT.com has seen.
  10. Smyrna's colors are purple and gold.
  11. What are you going to do about it? Type some stuff to attempt to get in his head on CoachT? Your part of the Raptor Nation meaning you will be in the stands, so I'm sure your the least of his worries. On a side note... Many Smyrna football players actually cheered for Ravenwood from what I understand last year after they were put out.
  12. From what I understand Smyrna's PA also does several MTSU sports. He also did a few of the State Championship games last year. I'm not sure if he will be doing the 5A championship this year.
  13. Smyrna did not beat the defending state champions last week. Riverdale was beat by Oak Ridge in the semifinal. Smyrna lost earlier in the season to the defending state champions, Ravenwood.
  14. Did you really say what you just said? If so I find it really disturbing and a complete lack of class!
  15. LaVergne...absolutely (only 1 loss) Oakland...nothing against 2p, but in recent years yes (3 in a row) Blackman... in recent years absolutely (4 in a row) Siegal... absolutely (4 in a row) Wilson Central... probably (only 1 loss) Riverdale...absolutely not (Smyrna has never beat riverdale.) The true question is what does owning have to do with this year? Do people really care that Smyrna has beat Oakland the last 3 years? ABSOLUTLEY NOT... that is why you play the game every year! Throw all the stats and previous records out the window... because they mean absolutely nothing
