Why would we have two classes in basketball and six in football? I also disagree with the notion Tennessee is a poor basketball state. I think the TSSAA has done a poor job with it. It used to be so much fun to go watch but we are pretty much a football state and the tssaa only cares about football. The truth is we are a lot better basketball talent producing state with better teams. Basically because of Memphis but still we are one of the worst football states in the country. We have a playoff system where 1-9 teams make it and there really isn't a good game till the semi's. I've seen where a football team will play two maybe three district games and then only have to win two quality games to win a championship.

Not sure that was the message being sent by cak. Maybe not the the right decision probably should've let them hold it the whole qtr. Top 3 players for cak had foul trouble and it shorten the game and was 19-12. Probably shouldn't have cause it didn't work out. Cak played CPA, Hamilton Heights, oak ridge, Webb twice , catholic 3 times and beat an Alcoa team 3 times that took carter to ot. Also beat Webb twice who beat carter by 30. It was a game not played or coached well by cak but to act like carter is that much better or dominate not sure I agree with. Would be easy to say Fulton is 50 points better than carter. It is what it is and last night carter was clearly dominate. When they are clicking they are very good.

Great game! The athletes and fans made it seem like the good old days when people actually cared a little about basketball in East Tennessee. It was great for Hoops in our area.

Hunter did well on his concussion test probably out 2 to 4 weeks. CT scan showed no other damage. Hopefully he will be back for region tournament

I agree both teams seemed very tight early and seemed like a feeling out contest. Catholic can shoot it and will have a good chance to run the rest of their district games. They have good players and a very good coaching staff. I really don't think bets team is that much better than last team in this league. Who knows what will happen in all district games.

Probably should considering on most years it's Thanksgving or December before CAK and Alcoa get their football players. I know we have just been flipping the dates for the past several years with most district games on Tuesday and Friday. One of the problems was catholic needing to play Webb on Friday nights because of the gate and I think the same could be said for maryville and Alcoa. With a district of 5 teams the district shouldn't play till January but the rivalry games changed that for some schools. Cak was fortunate in not having to move their games because we play Webb on Saturday.

Crockett is coached by one of the best men and coaches in the business. Great family man and friend to many. His son Patrick is the one who dropped 40 on DB and is a D1 player.

Blackman didn't have their football players either but i think one of their best basketball players is a D1 football guy and isn't playing this year. Doubt they will repeat they had a nice run last year and they didn't win their district last year. William Blount will be much better with the injuries. It allows Coach to grow depth and play guys and playing good comp doesn't hurt as well. They have 3 really nice players when all healthy and with two of those being out the other guys are getting better. I think they will be just fine.

CAK was able to control the pace with Hardin Valley this week and win 78-63. When Hardin Valley gets rolling they are good.

3A football really only has about 4 good teams

Playoffs would be a lot better if Catholic, Alcoa, CAK,Fulton, Greenville and Elizabethton had to go through each other

I don't think the reclassification involves basketball. For instance Catholic would move to 5A football but still play 2A basketball. Alcoa may drop down for football and stay in 2A in basketball. The reason is we are more than likely going to have a private/public split so the T$$AA who only cares about one sport didn't want to change things for the other sports. Only football will change. They wanted to keep 6 classes so the kids had more opportunity to win championships. I guess the kids in basketball and baseball don't really matter since we only have 3 champions.

Coach K is a very good basketball coach. Taking over a senior group is probably harder than taking over a young group because they had seen a certain system for a while. I think he was stuck with about 6 players till December and made a run at Sub-State. He also has some very good players coming his way.

I will speak on CAK and a little on everyone else. Catholic: Loaded and will be one of the best team in any class. Has a great coaching staff that do what they do and they do it very well. Don't know much about their freshman but hear they are really good. Catholic hasn't been healthy in a while so that will new to everyone in 4AA seeing them at full strength. Alcoa: Lost a lot. Will be big and athletic and the young kids are really good. Excited to see Coach K get to have his own kids. Tough sometimes taking over a senior laden group that was used to playing for someone else. Coach K will be a good stamp on his program this year. Scott: Said it last year they would be a sleeper team. Not going to be a sleeper team because we all know they are good and well coached. Probably have the best scorer in the district in Butts. Senior guards are so very important. Jared may one of the best young coaches in East Tennessee. Kingston: Return a lot of guys and has a coach that always puts them in position to win and be successful. They have a senior guard who is very good and Tyler Thompson has grew to around 6'4. Losing Quint Gasque was a major blow. CAK: Was below average this summer but always seem to struggle in summer play. Lucas Campbell will be one of the top players in the region. They return a lot of players but lost a lot of scoring and leadership in the two seniors. Not sure if the transfer is playing. Schedule will be a lot of fun with games at: Oak Ridge, Hardin Valley, FRA, and nationally ranked CPA in Nashville. Look for a game with Hamilton Heights or Ensworth a possibility as CAK has one more game to fill. These games will prepare CAK for the tough district schedule.

The teams from 77-79 must have been really solid. I think, I remember the 89 team. Would it have had Shannon Mitchell, Billy Williams and that crew on it? If so that was the best Alcoa team I can remember but for some reason I was thinking that was in 91. My whole point was to prove credit for the 2 basketball titles. It's so hard to win it in basketball not only with 3 classes but because Memphis is so good in basketball. Winning those two are equal to about 10 football titles. Alcoa has been such a great place in East Tennessee athletics. I wish football would go back to 3 classifications or max of 4. The playoffs last year with Fulton, Catholic and Alcoa would've been a lot of fun to watch.

2 Gold Balls in Basketball is like 10 in football. If you look at the rankings on page 1 of this thread it shows how weak 3A football is. 6 Classifications make winning a state championship fairly common for a school with the ability of Alcoa. How may state titles did Alcoa have when there were only 3 classes 3 or 4?. Just curious how many of the state top 10 will have above a .500 record or be at 9-1 only because they play no one. At the end of the day Alcoa is a place that wins and has tradition in everything.

meigs has a very good team. cak played their jv during both games at UTC camp today. don't think brentwood was at UTC camp. i will say this though meigs has a very good team.
