  1. I was at the game. My first impression was that the right call was, Block. After watching the way this game was called I was sure it would be called, Charge. Heck, after watching this game I'm not even sure what a walk is any more. When a whistle sounded the players on both teams didn't know what was going to be called or who the referee was going to point at. The only thing I can say is, I think the game was called in good faith.
  2. The rules are the rules. If any student wants to transfer without losing a year of eligibility, those rules are also in effect. It just takes money if you have it or if you don't it takes sacrifice by your family. Transfering works out great for some and not so great for others. Having said that, if any student wants to transfer for say, basketball. Here is a short list of schools that I know have a need for some help. Beech HS needs a post in the 6'3 range that is a D1 prospect. Beech hasn't had a tall post in so long their coach has a crick in his neck from looking down. Smith Co HS needs a power forward and a two guard, both with ball handling skills, to take the pressure off their 6'8 post player. Shelbyville HS has a solid club but, another 6'1 athletic scorer would help. Wilson Central HS is missing the two 6'0 players off last years club and could use some help there. You know this list could get longer than I thought. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  3. Could someone post the teams and start times for the Monday games at Stone Memorial's Thanksgiving Tournament. Thanks
  4. You can offer a scholarship any time you have legal contact with a player. They can sign a letter of intent November of their senior year in Basketball.
  5. Chantelle Anderson was a 6'6 first team All American, who played at Vanderbilt and is in the WNBA. She once told me as we discussed Heidi Gillingham, a 6'10 first team All American who also played at Vanderbilt, that "Heidi was good only because she is 6'10". I asked Chantelle "how good would you be at 5'6"? You could see her become aware in her face. She smiled and basically said "I see your point". You are what you are. Tall or short, fast or slow. Thats why they keep stats. The rim is hung at ten feet and is the same size at every gym. Congratulations on your awards, Kayci. You earned them.
  6. Still plenty of basketball to be played. My old high school coach said "In Tennessee you can beat'em and beat'em and beat'em and beat'em and still not get rid of them. McGavock and old North HS is a prime example. North won four straight but, lost the fifth game in the championship of the state tournament. McGavock state champions, North HS a footnote in history.
  7. Any player that attends a camp or visits on a college campus can be talked to by the coaching staff and offered a scholarship if the coaches want to. Goes on all the time.
  8. I understand that Cleveland opens the Nike Tournament of Champions playing Elena Delle Donne's team from Delaware. She is ranked at the top or near the top of the 08 class. Tennessee, UConn and Duke have all rolled out the welcome mat for her.
  9. MtJ trailed most of the game. Made a run late, was up with two minutes to play. Turn overs and missed shots didn't help at the end. I'm sure three girls fouled out for MtJ, I think none for LC. It was one of those games where the officials, at the buzzer, sprint for the locker room like they had stolen something. I think they called a pretty good game. When your playing out of state you just don't get the close calls. Hall stepped up with a very good game. The little blond point guard also played well and hit a long three late. The young post player off the bench had a good game. LC is a very good team with more than one D-1 type player.
  10. All of these players are good. Some good players were left off the ballots. I would like to mention Kali Holtfeiter from Hendersonville. She isn't a finalist but, she has a D1 basketball scholarship to Furman University. That isn't bad.
  11. Monica is a player for sure. What I saw at the end of the game was Tara Sleeper digging in and playing hard defence. After the game I saw Monica and Tara and the rest of the team happy about it. At an AAU tournament with college coaches watching, I asked Monica to grab the rim. She ran in grabbed the rim with one hand and hung on for a few seconds. If she can do it with two hands, it wouldn't surprise me.
  12. Tiffany Woosley, Ex Shelbyville Central HS star. All time SCHS leader in scoring +3100. Ex Lady Vol. Doing a great job coaching Pride's 16's.
  13. Just a guess, but it might be nice to know who the players are when you go see a team play. Just a guess.
  14. Colby Wherry at Beech HS is a great catcher, but they have a great catcher and are playing Colby at Short, Third, and anywhere they need her. What they need is three or four more like her.
  15. Our school had been down for years. I have a friend who left our school to play for a better program. I was thinking of doing the same thing. Our school told the TSSAA and they sent my friend a letter saying your welcome to go to that school, but you can't play for the better program, it isn't right. So, my friend came back to play for our school and we won three games in three years and the other school lost three games in three years. We don't feel better about ourselves. We both have nothing but contempt for the TSSAA and the high school administrators that hide behind them. I hope Shelbyville wins twenty more Gold balls. Everytime they win one its like spit in the TSSAA's eye.
  16. The great thing about AAU. Anyone can get a team and coach it the way they want.
  17. Each player must make a choice that works for them. Some players can play two sports at this time of year. Courtney Boynton of Beech HS played Softball and played AAU basketball. She played on a State Championship softball team and played with the Tennessee Stars that were 16 and under AAU National Champions. Not everyone can do that, some need to stick with their best sport. If a needed college scholarship is in the balance, each individual must make their on choice.
  18. 1000 points is just a number on the way to 2000 points on the way to.... Stay focused, you can get alot better. Good luck.
  19. I attend quite a few games each year. Jackson County's cookies are good and they have Coke products which is a plus. The people behind the counter seem glad to see you and want your business. Shelbyville is good and so is Beech HS. Cookville HS isn't bad. Jaskson CM's popcorn has to much salt.
  20. People quit their job all the time for a better job. Sometimes it's better, sometimes it isn't. Good luck to those who leave and those who stay.
  21. I'm going back aways with this one. If you had ever seen her you wouldn't forget it. Carol Andrews, from Maplewood HS in Nashville.
  22. The blond on the Tiger's 14 and under AAU team I think is Kensie Rich from Monrow Co. KY
  23. Both teams had trouble putting the ball in the hole. The left handed girl (Ramsey?) shot the ball better in the last half for Clarkrange and turned the game around for them.
