  1. Golden Tate went one year to Saint Joseph (8th grade). He attended Heighland Heights before that.
  2. You need to pay attention to the message not how the message is delivered.
  3. Antwan, On a serious note, are they really crying? I hear them asking what is going to happen next & what else could the public school want. They have given the public schools every concession possible other than forming their own league. The only logical reason for staying in the D1 is travel because even if all of the private schools are in D2 travel is still going to be a problem. The only other problem is that if the private schools decided to leave the TSSAA the national federation would not honor their new organization. Without the backing of the national federation they would not be allowed to play teams from other states or the current TSSAA public schools. Would the TSSAA be willing to transfer their membership in the national federation to a new private school association? I don't thank so!!!!!
  4. Excuse me for asking but what is it the public schools want? The public schools have the following: 1. Higher teacher salaries 2. Better facilities 3. Free education 4. Free textbooks 5. Free breakfast & lunch for students of low income families 6. very few charge students to participate in athletics 7. Free transportation to and from school and athletic events It looks like the public schools have all of the advantages over the private D1 private schools. Do we hear the private schools crying???????????
  5. If the TSSAA wanted to save some $$$$$$ they could play the championship games at a big high school stadium. The TSSAA could take the whole gate but give the concessions and parking to the host school.
  6. Did the Father Ryan Invitational not start in about 1965? How long has the Overton Invitational been running? I beleive that GP West started his tournament in the early 1970's.
  7. Congratulations on making one of the most honest post ever on this board. The biggest problem with private vs public is both the lack of coaches and the quality of coaches in the public school system. The public schools do not require teachers to coach (that is why you only have 4 on the sidelines) while many private schools place coaching requirements into their teachers contracts. The private schools search for good teachers that participated in college athletics. The public schools have someone down at the school board office that hires teachers and most of the time they could care less if that teacher is also a coach as they are just trying to fill a science, math, english... position. Money is not the problem for the public schools as often they have better facilities than the private schools and their teachers are often paid more in salary. The problem starts with the various political school boards that try to legislate everything from test scores to athletic competitions.

    Toughest Course

    1. The Golf Club of Tennessee 2. Richland Country Club Both of these courses are private & very difficult to shoot a low score on.
  9. I tried to tell you in an earlier post that Mt. Juliet has never been a big time school for football. The school board, parents, athletes & teachers have never been willing to make the sacrafices necessary to build a program. Mt. Juliet has a football team but they have never had a program. If you want a program you need to go and hire (this will not be cheap) a top coach from another state (he will not have any preconceived ideas) like Texas, Georgia, Florida, etc... and allow the man to bring a staff of 5 or 6 assistant coaches with him. After doing this get out of his way and give him 4 or 5 years to implement his program and get everyone including the community on the same page.
  10. MJ fans need to take a close look at what has happened over the years. You have never won big ( when was your last state championship in football) due to politicians and parents being involved in the program. If you decide to make a change you need to not only hire a good football coach but you have to hire a staff. When the team does not win the head coach is not the only problem you need to look at the staff. Hire your new head coach and then allow him to bring 5 assistant coaches with him if you want to win.
  11. mhubbuch, What part of that statement is not true?????????? MY friend I do feel that you are the one that is wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Rome was not built in a day and the Father Ryan football program will not get back on top in one season. From the outside things seem to be moving in the proper direction. I noticed that the freshmen team and JV team went undefeated so they must have a few athletes in the pipeline for the future. How do the players and alumni feel about the program?
  13. Ok, let's go with your theory that Mt. Juliet High School is loosing kids to private schools (yes, you loose a few but everyone else does to) but you need to ask yourself a couple of questions: 1. What do the private schools offer that makes kids want to leave and for parents to pay tuition? 2. If Mt. Juliet was a better school would parents not keep their kids in the public school system instead of paying tuition?

Takedown42, It is my understanding that the NCAA rules are an athlete has 4 years of participation and has to complete those 4 years in a 5 year time frame. The clock starts once you attend class and only stops for military or religious activities. These activities would have to be approved by the NCAA. Kyle may be able to attend an NAIA school and still have 4 years of wrestling remaining but I am not sure of the NAIA rules.
  15. The private schools are not taking your players. All of the private schools (Frendship, Ezell, DCA) have been around for 25+ years now. Heck they closed the best academic private school of all in Castle Heights. The problem is that all of the growth in Wilson County is in the Wilson Central school zone. Look at the new subdivisions that are being built in Mt. Juliet compared to the Gladeville area and their is no comparison. The families moving into the area want a new home and the most affordable new homes are being built in Gladeville and those students are zoned for Wilson Central.
  16. Would it make for a better season if each region only took the top 2 teams to the football playoffs? This would eliminate any chance of a team with a loosing record making the playoffs and make it be very special for a team to get into the state football playoffs. The bowl games would be for teams that have 7+ wins during the season that don't qualify for the playoffs. The communities that wish to sponsor a bowl game could make some money as could the schools that participate. In the past the bowl game people treat both teams like kings by giving them jackets, caps, shirts, rings, etc...
  17. This game is going to be bad!!!!!!! Look for Clint to try and put 100 points on the board if he can while playing his starters deep into the 4th quater. From what he did last week I guess he is trying to take Carlton's place as the most hated man in Tennessee high school football. We have all had our hat handed to us and we have all hammered an opponent before but scoring 90+ points on someone does not show alot of class.

Did I not hear something about Simpson being at the OTC back in September?
  19. This is the latest information out of the United States Military Academy wrestling program. November 1, 2006 125/lbs William Simpson dec Fernando Martinez 7-3 * These two will wrestle again in the Black & Gold match on Saturday 11-5-05 133/lbs Frank Baughan pinned Tyler Howard Frank Baughan dec Whitt Dunning 17-2 Whitt Dunning dec Tyler Howard by 1 pt * Whitt Dunning will wrestle Frank Baughan in the Black & Gold match Frank Baughan started some as a freshmen but was not able to break into the starting spot last season. He spent most of his sophmore season in the weight room working on his upper body. The inside information is that he is super strong now and wrestles a very physical style. 149/lbs Patrick Simpson (2005-06 Captain) will also wrestle in the Black & Gold match
  20. Shadow, Do 50% of the teams in most regions not qualify for the playoffs? I agree that you have to win your way into the playoffs but only winning 50% of your region games is not that difficult. When you 1st started coaching and had to win your district to go to the playoffs, now that was difficult.
  21. If Ravenwood is ready to play this game should get ugly very early. Overton will put 9 in the box and try to blitz the QB but my guess is that TC will dump the ball off and one broken tackle later the receiver will be in the endzone. Overton has scored some points by throwing the football but they did this against teams that have little if any pass defense. Ravenwoods defense practices against the pass and they play against teams that run the football so they will be prepared for most anything. Look for Terry Anderson to go into his playoff shell and try to run the football and control the clock. He does this every year and every year he get's beat but Overton never seems to learn from their mistakes. Overton is also prone to get several unsportsmanlike conduct penalties each game. If Ravenwood gets ahead early Overton will likely loose their composure and the flags will start to fly.
  22. Well it looks like hespinnedref has not only thrown someone off the bus, he backed it up and ran over them again. But I would have to agree that most parents would know their childs date of birth and to put something different down an a piece of paper would be fraud/cheating!!!!!!!!!! Keep it coming!!!!!!! We have this going on and we are only into the 2nd day of high school practice!!!!!! It looks like the season is going to be fun!!!!!!!!!
