  1. hespinnedref, I got my information from both the King (Mr. Simpson) & Queen (Mrs. Simpson) of Tennessee wrestling. It's amazing what information you can get in a grocery store checkout line. One thing that you have to keep in mind; as you may know it's not wise to ask Mrs. Simpson anything if you are not prepared for her opinion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Congratulations to a very good wrestler.
  3. Notre Dame & Father Ryan wrestled a dual match for probably 20+ years on a Sunday afternoon. When Father Ryan moved to their new campus Notre Dame was extended the opportunity to be the first wrestling match held @ the new campus but they declined. To my knowledge the two schools have not wrestled a dual match for over 15 years. The same can be said for The Baylor School. When Major was coaching FR & Baylor wrestled every year but for some reason the last several years they have not been able to work things out with their schedules.

    Whats The Call?

I forgot to add that it was not only a 15 yard penalty on team B from where they received the football but team B was also given the football. The coaches from team A were going crazy but the officials would not go over to the sideline and explain their view of the situation.
  5. What you are trying to say is did any teams move down to D1, correct? To answer your queston, yes Knoxville Catholic and Notre Dame changed divisions and are now in D1. The problem as you know is that until the top D1 schools accept the challange to wrestle the top D2 schools it's very difficult for anyone not to feel that D2 while small in numbers has the better wrestling teams.

    Whats The Call?

You be the official: 4th down and 3 yards to go for a first down for team A. Team A punts the football and on the play team B is called for having 12 men on the field during the punt. The officials threw the flag and it was a 15 yard penalty on Team B from where the player received the ball.
  7. How many stadiums have the new aritfical turf (they may call it field turf)? I was told that MBA was going to put it in after their season but I don't know if that is true. I do know that teams in PA, TX and CA are going to it over natural grass. It only makes since when you have varsity football, jv football, freshmen football, mens & womens soccer, and mens & womens lax all using the same field.
  8. The inside poop is that Whitt had a "walking around weight" of about #145 before he reported to boot camp. I understand that he could not go below about #129 with the NCAA certification process. Remember that freshmen have to certify 2X @ The United States Military Academy and this alone makes sucking weight very difficult. Why would anyone feel that William is trying to avoid Tyler Howard since he defeated him last year at the prep school challange matches and forced Howard to bump up one weight classification. Heck, Featherstone is a more seasoned wrestler than Howard is, so William probably will have the more difficult road to breaking the starting rotation. Look for Whitt & Howard to have a war and the challange matches could be won by them or another wrestler. The USMA has some great plebes and cadets in their program.
  9. I have said it before and I will say it again: It's easy to claim that you are the best if you don't have to compete against the best!!!!!!
  10. Will Coffee (Pope John Paul II) wrestle at 215/lb or has he grown into a HWT? I heard that his "walking around weight" is about 235.
  11. turtle72, You are crazy!!!!! I will be one of the first people to get on officials (look @ the earlier post) but for you to make a stupid statement like that is just nuts.
  12. JMO, but the officiating for all sports in Tennessee continues to get worse rather than better. In the 1950's, 60's & 70's you often had professional men (physicians, businessmen, attorney's, etc...) that had played at the college and professional level officiating games because they loved the game. These men had not only played sports at a high level but they were also well educated and brought with them a great deal of respect from the fans, coaches and players. What I see today is officials that never played in college (some never played in high school) and they call a JV game on Monday, Freshmen game on Thursday, Varsity game on Friday, and the Pee Wee games all day Saturday. These people are making their living officiating amateur sports. This would be great if they really understood the sport and were well trained but most of the time they have never been to any camps/clinics other than what the TSSAA requires and their mechanics are terrible because they learned from other bad officials. The TSSAA needs to do a better job of attracting the type of officials that they once had and then train them in the proper mechanics of officiating.
  13. IMO, Tennessee needs to take a back seat on this issue and watch what happens in the other states. Just my educated guess but this is going to end up in the various court systems and cost all of the state associations a ton of money. Don't be shocked to see the Supreme Court tackle this problem in the future.

    Laray Foote

The way that players are timed at the NFL Combine is different from the way that a college would do it at a camp. That is why most players run 2/10s+ slower at the combines.

    Middle School

Brentwood Academy, McCallie & MBA all have very strong 8th grade teams.
  16. In California a player may play 6 quaters in one day. They play the JV games @ 4:30pm on Friday and the Varsity game is @ 7:30pm on Friday. Most schools use the JV game for the players to gain game experience and little emphasis is placed on winning.
  17. Antwan, I have not heard this!!!!! If the State Department of Education does implement this policy then the male children will go to Kindergarten two years in a row. We both know that by repeating Kindergarten it will cost the tax payers an additional year of school for some students. It would seem more logical to leave things as they are.
  18. Could it be that CBHS would go to the Dog Pound due to the Hurricane in New Orleans? Have they not been attending the Brother Martin tournament the last few years? Will Brother Martin have their tournament this year?
  19. What I have noticed is that if parents are going to hold their child back, most of the time what they really do is start the child in kindergarten when he/she is 6 years of age instead of 5 years of age. Several years ago I had the principal of a school tell me directly that if it were her decision she would start 99% of the males in kindergarten when they were 6 years of age. Her reasoning was that most young boys were not mature enough to sit in class and take academic direction from a teacher.

    CLOSED SCHOOLS

Yes, Saint Benards was all girls before it became a K-8 independant Catholic school. Nashville Female Academy Ward Belmont: The property was sold and became Belmont University in about 1950. Some of the parents went and started Harpeth Hall the following year.

    CLOSED SCHOOLS

Cathedral was a catholic girls school that was closed in the late 60's or early 70's. When Cathedral closed Father Ryan decided to go coed.

    CLOSED SCHOOLS

I know that the following schools have closed in Davidson County: North West Central Bellevue Peabody Demonstration Duncan DuPont Cumberland Joelton Goodletsville Litton East Pearl Cameron Donelson Two Rivers Madison Howard Cohn The combinaton of the interstate highway system dividing neighborhoods and "NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS" closing forced many families to make the move to other counties. IMO the great social experiment of the 60's,70's & 80's to form comprehensive high schools has killed what was once a great public education system in Nashville.
  23. Yes, it is a very good tournament and maybe the best in Tennessee but saying that it is the best high school baseball tournament in the nation may be going a little too far. When you land a few of the best teams from Florida, California, and Texas you "MAY" be able to make that type of statement.
  24. No disrespect but who care about stats? Over 50% of the schools dont't know how to keep correct stats. You can look at players that have 150 tackles and no assist and tell that people are asleep at the wheel.
  25. IMO the wing-t is great for small school football but ask yourself how many 5A or D23A schools have won state championships running the wing-t.
