  1. Sounds good.... I guess everyone on this team was right before my time. UTbound if you heard anything about the seniors who played when you were an 8th grade then you probolly did hear about me. Karns has never prided themselves in soccer. It's a shame. I do know that while i was there, we made it to regions (something never done before by the Beavers). We were always overshadowed though by power houses like Farragut and Bearden. Never beat OR though and i was very happy to see that. Karns had never beat OR before.... and OR has always played in the district finals (not last year). Actually now to think about it only one goal was scored against OR before i had entered high school and only two in my career. I'm glad to see that the program is finally getting thing together, but when Mike leaves who steps in? Is Barns still there?
  2. how does he compare to someone like camdon brown or any others that have already graduated (only because i might know some of these players)?
  3. UTbound I think i'm a little before your time...... i graduated in 04. No one of real importance. Records were never really keep so i guess i'm kinda like the dust in the wind.
  4. wow very well put..... /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> don't loose the attitude jet.... I remember a cumberland county team that came back to tie a game in the last two min when down by two against karns. This was the same Karns team that tied Cak when they won their first state championship..... Still can't forget about that goal Big G... oh well
  5. i'm with you BIG G. I am aware of the outstanding respect that you and your program prides themselves on. I know players that have played for you and know the talent level that you have had. You EARNED your titles and never ment to take that away from you. I actually got the chance to play against you once (if you were the coach, it was your first year) spring 2002. Don't know if you remember this particular game but i WILL ALWAYS remember this game. Cak has always had an outstanding program (i felt little timid playing them my freshman and sophomore year). Well long story short.... I scored a first goal in the first half ( a high light in my career to score on CAK) CAK ties it up with ten min left....... Three min later we score to make it two-one. On the kickoff, A CAK player shots it, bounced over our keeper, and scored. he told me that he had tried it two other times and failed, stinks it worked against us. Only goal i have seen that upset me more was when the same kid did the same thing the following fall against my club team. Difference was I warned my club keeper he was shooting. I agree that you do not have the depth to compare your program to schools such as Bearden and Farragut. I guess when your school has 2200+, it's easy to find kids. Teams like these have SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many club kids that even their JV team is FULL of club players. I know that programs like CAK, Catholic and Notre Dame would do alright in AAA, but i agree that A/AA is the place for them in the public brackets. Remember A/AA schools like catholic, Cak, and other privates like these only give strength to your division. If you can not beat these school, this should be something to work towards. Think of it as giving A/AA a little more credibility. Who wants to say that they beat a bunch of weak teams to win a state championship? I would love to say that they highlight of my high school career was beating a program like CAK in the state tourny to win it all. Just another way to look at things.
  6. BIG G...... never said that one of these schools was CAK. Actually i never mentioned any particualer school that did, only stated that i have seen the letters and that i know it goes on. Laz..... would LOVE to send a letter in but I never recieved one and had possission of one. Only stated that i have seen it. Just stating that A FORM of recuiting was going on. Actually now to think about it, i know of public schools that do some form of recuiting as well...... Laz there's a reason why these schools are getting away with it. Simple because these schools are REALLY good at covering up there trails or use technicalities to there advantage. I will retract my statement that they are recieveing "help". That i said but did not think about the schools that gave help. G you're right and as i think i can not name a school that is A/AA that gave help. i apoligize for that statement and that statement only. Now for me answering the FRA questions..... i didn't even know FRA won state much less who there players are. i couldn't even tell you a single girls name on any team in tenn. BECAUSE IT'S GIRLS!!!!!!!!!! Quiet being redicuilous. i simple stated that i know of recruiting instinces and everyone think i'm accusing EVERY SINGLE PRIVITE SCHOOL. My generialized statement? Every privite school recruits..... that's a generalized statement! Something you will not read in my privious post. Read before replying to a particular post. Just think that privite should stay privite and public stay public. If they are able to compete agaisnt one another then why brake up into D-1 and D-II. Heck... i would much rather we do things like kentucky, where everyone plays for ONE state championship, but i do understand why TN breaks them apart. Never understood why we break it up like we do. Actually when i try to explain how we do it in TN to people in Kentucky, they simple look at me like i'm stupid and don't understand why we do it like we do. oh well.... no everything is perfect
  7. The only debate that should be brought up is how are the privite schools able to play in A/AA against public schools period. I thought they made Divionsion II for a reason, for privite schools to compete against one another. The only advantage that privite schools have is they have an ability to recruit. Not to say that they are able to recruit athletically but because of other things a privite school offers, like academics, recruiting still goes on. Don't act like this does not go on. I have SEEN letters that were sent from privite schools to individuals asking them to attend their school and they would recieve "help" to pay. This individuals were also incrediable athletes.... conscidence? Give me a break. So why are privite schools allowed to compete with public schools?
  8. hey gooner..... was your first year at karns the first year that Johnston coached? i think we might have played together if so. Johnston's first year was my senior year.
  9. I've heard the bowers name before but no one can tell me anything about the kid. what position? club? skills? I haven't had a chance to see karns play and i want to hear some details...
  10. I never got to play under mike and i REALLY wish he would have been the coach when i was there. Kinda disappointed to hear that an awesome coach (i have seen some of his teams play and he puts them together very well) is leaving Karns only to head down the road to a new high school. I wish him well and i know he will build a very good program at HVHS. I just don't understand why he would leave karns to go down the road. I guess that HVHS will probolly draw more club players and will be easier to work with. Oh well, whatever the reasoning i know that Mike has put alot of thought into it and did what was best and i can not blame him for that. So I wanna hear some thoughts on Karns. How are they looking this year? i haven't really heard any scores. How are they doing in the district and have they played any district games? How does the keeper, defence, mid, and forwards look? Can anyone give me some details on the beavers?
  11. Ezion.... i'm sure your brother can keep you updated. Tron..... same thing happened to us when we played Lambuth in the 2006 semi-conference tourny. We rang two off the post but only finshed one out of at least fifteen GOOD oppurtunities. We ended up loosing two to one. They finished what seemed like their only two chances in like the last ten min. Remember Tron can't underestimate teams...... might come back to bit you.
  12. oh and tron, i noticed that you all tied Lambuth.... can you tell me alittle more about that scrimmage? yes i know it was just a scrimmage but still interested. Lambuth is a dangerous team with dangerous players. How did you guys match up with them?
  13. Tron, let me begin by saying (and i'm sure that i've stated this in another thread) i do not mean to belittle your team or you in any way. You are a talented player and yes i have watched you play on more then a couple occasions, so i'm not just going on what everyone else is saying. I'm just trying to tell you tron..... you guys (once again under NO curcumstances) should have never played that team that close of a score. To put a little perspective on the situation for everyone, i'll make a comparision between the strength of these two teams............ according to everyone since D-I is sooooooo awesome i would have to say that Western would be equal to Bearden and Bearea would be the level of Knox Central (and that's actually a complement to Bearea). Seen Bearea and have played against them twice. now if we saw a score Bearden 3 central 0 would we all not doubt how good Bearden is at least a little? My point is tron everyone talks about the weak teams in NAIA and forget the strength of NAIA. D-I is the same way. I could go all day telling you that my team could beat any midocre D-I team (Radford who we absoultly dominated) and then tell you that because of this NAIA is better. Does that make any sense? I have watched more NAIA games then NCAA, but i have watched ALOT of NCAA teams (D-I through D-III). For those who don't know me, it's been a while since i've been in high school (graduated in 04). Since graduating (and even before) all i have been consumed with is the college game. I have done my homework. Since my Junior year all i've been working on is playing in college. I can tell you playing styles of all the top NAIA programs and pretty much the playing style of top D-I teams (they generally all play the same with little differences). There is no comparison that NAIA is more consistant and dangerous then D-I. Once again guys do your homework and tell me some NEW stuff. If ANYONE can tell me HOW Azuza pacific, Lindsey wilson, Rio grande, or even Auburn Montgomery plays then you might be able to argue. Can anyone truly be able to argue if they have not seen the top NAIA? Study the college game alittle more then talk....Sorry guys i understand that since birth we have been conditioned that D-I is better.......... i know who UCLA, INDIANA, Duke, and other D-I programs are NOT just because of their soccer program but because of their all around status as a major universtiy. Did you all ever consider that? Karns will beat CAK because Karns is Soooo much bigger then Cak. That is the same argument that everyone is making. It's not about size, publicity or classification. The players and coach are what make a program successed. Wanna know why most never hear about these schools? because locals go to these schools and they recruit the athletes from other areas. Sorry that we don't run advertisment around the world. We know who these schools are but untill you can start telling me more about their soccer programs and concetrate less about the school in general then we can begin to talk. Untill then everything is based on sterotypical statements.Tron, let me begin by saying (and i'm sure that i've stated this in another thread) i do not mean to belittle your team or you in any way. 14. that's a shame about Gibbs..... Dave has always struggled with number for as long as he's been at Gibbs. What is even more a shame is i know that there has been talented kids to play at Gibbs and these are the ones who are getting hurt the most. Why did Ryan descide not to play? and what happen to Ben? Does anyone know if Shawn hobby is still playing or is there any word on him?
  15. All bearden alum should quite life and the game of soccer! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Man you are everywhere today (Kidding about the first comment, directed toward tinman)
  16. oh my it's craig cook..... you should just give up the game of soccer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you couldn't make a pass if your life depended on it!!!!!! and get a hair cut... /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> You said it better.... by the way i don't think it's raining....
  17. Ezion...... long time no see.... i don't know if you know who this is but i play at UC. As for the games that took place between the club team and the reserve squads at UC. I wouldn't pay a bit of attention to any of them. No player that plays any varsity played in any of these games. We have a reserve squad of about 25 kids or more. Big difference between varsity 1-16 (when they're are 24 strictly varisty) and reserve 14-25 (who play against the club teams). Also when you guys are arguing over dumb things remember to check your facts. There are TWO cumberlands (one in tn and KY) U of the C is in KY and C university in TN. The one in TN played TNFC. Tron.... you are an incredible player and i know you could play ANYWHERE you want (D-1-D-III and NAIA). I have no clue why ezion is bashing you. Ezion..... dude chill. You know how good are varsity squad is. We do have two players that were on the national team pool (both coming from region I which speaks volumes) and other players (from other countries) who would have been on these teams had they been in the states. i'll take top players in NAIA over NCAA any day of the week. These guys go back to there countries and play pro and for national teams. You'd be suprised the things that some forigners would give up for an american education. I'm sorry but for all you who argue that D-I is D-I because that's what it is called are (for a lack of a better way to put it) idiots. D-I is NCAA D-I and NAIA is NAIA. Simply as that!!!!! NO CONNECTION to one another. Not even goverened by the same body of gov. that's like argueing that WWF is WWF because IT IS THE WORLD WRESLTING FERDERATION and and WWE is a knock off because it's name. That arguement is a joke. People listen to Psudo...... and Tron bash berea all you want but a pikeville college (worse team in NAIA) scored more goals on them in there first year then you all did. Berea playing UC would be a joke. Tron i have played them and if you all only beat them by three then i wouldn't be worried about any other NAIA program. i don't care what the conditions were. We are KILLING teams that KILLED Berea. Bearea plays in the weakest conference in the nation and they still don't even compete in the top 4 of the conference. Oh and for the KING game comment..... game was not even close. they scored in the last minutes with possetion being like 70-30 in our favor. Time before that when we played them it was 4-0 and that was when they were 17 in the land. Don't bash teams you know NOTHING about. As for Azuza Pacific..... They would beat any D-I team you put in front of them. Psudo..... we no longer play western and it's a shame. and one more thing. NAIA allows former pro and national team players to play.... REMEMBER WE ARE NOT IN NCAA AFFILIATED!!!!! That's why D-I is called D-I, because it's NCAA D-I (with recruiting restrictions) not NCAA AND NAIA D-I. As for the D-I vs. NAIA..... my argueement was made in the TITLE IX post. Ezion..... People are going to continue to think D-I is better because it dominates all other sports and gets more publicity. I once criticized your dad when he told me that your brother wanted to play at UC. I felt like because he could have, he should have been playing D-I. I have learned since. People will learn one day the truth about college soccer.
  18. i think that mark sherrod from carter deserves to be thrown in the discussion.... i haven't watched the kid since he was beginning his freshman year and already then he looked like a vetrain high school player. This kid has the tools to become an amazing player. He has vision, skills, and size, plus the kid can finish. I just wonder how he looks now. The article had him at second in players to watch (don't know if they were in any particualar order). i expect to hear big things from him this year.

    Title 9

There actually has been alot of Naia recruiting done in the Knoxville area..... 4 from knoxville played at UC this year, five played at King, and six played at Tenn Wesleyan. i know there are alot more playing NCAA schools and probolly other NAIA institutions. I promise that there are plenty of oppurtunities to play, you just have to look for them. Trust me i had to do my research. It can be done. Title 9 seems as though it effects alot more D-I programs and the simple fact that there is a lack of revinue. i think this is a shame because i know that in a tiny college like mine, we can create enough interest. I would hope that you could draw enough interest at a school like UT and diffenetly with it being in Knoxville. It is about advertising and getting the name out. I just think that UT could put together a good enough team to compete with the rest of the country. I know that UT's men soccer could bring in more money into the institution. facility is already there, so it's just down to travel, gear, and scholorship. i couldn't imagine those costing UT a alot more money. I know the attention it would attract would bring alot of money back into the school. regardless of what people might say there is talent in knoxville and i know that knoxville would love to see these kids successed at the next level. The soccer community in knoxville is pretty big and i know they would embrace the UT men's team. You can't fight title 9, because when you try to fight title 9 all you are fighting is other people saying the same thing you are.... "it's not fair." I'll bring up a quote my high school coach once told me "Life's not fair" It's just how it is. The only way to overcome title 9 is by creating enough interest. The sad thing about college is it's another buissness. The only job of the president of our college is to bring more money into our college (wethier it be donations or fundraising). That's the job of a president of the instition to find money.
  20. If i recall BigG the first CAK team that won state was not predicted to win it that year. That was a great TEAM. I do love to be able to read articles about knoxville soccer. It's about time soccer gets the publicity that it deserves. What's even more amazing is i see more players playing at the next level and quite a few in the D-I ranks.

Haha i know who you are talking about now.... he is a very good player and got alot of playtime this past year in a NAIA program. Another example of an american having success in naia. I have played with that kid and watched him grow up playing. I know he could have gone and played at D-I program. Pinball, are you going to continue playing after high school?

don't really know who tinman is referring to but i hope it a complement? sorry torontofc i didn't mean to bring your tread down i'll be sure to stick to topic next time. oh and to answer your question (which by the way took me no time to come up with an answer) but um azuza pacific your NAIA champions are FILLED completely full with all kids from california (besides two players but even your top D-I programs have one or two forigners) and Georgetown (KY) are a just two that popped into my head. if you really wanted me to i could find ALOT more schools that have american players. I'm just saying it's a shame to watch all these kids cry about no where to play when all the schools that DO have programs sign kids that shouldn't even be playing high school ball. i see it happen day in and day out. Ok let's say that title 9 didn't exist...... how many schools in Tenn would add D-I programs? Vandy, UT, and i think there's one more in nashville. Great three more soccer programs that would sign (in reality) maybe ten (all together) tennesseeians a year if that. I'm telling you all instead of worrying about the places that don't have programs, relize that there are TONS of programs for kids to play at. Someone said that there were over 400 D-III programs, that's alot of programs and i know there are TONS more. I understand that title 9 has litlerally ruined lives and i'm all for getting reed of it. i was just offering a different point of veiw.

    Title 9

Colton, There has ALWAYS been talent out west and from the middle part of tenn. i assume you are out west... i know that lambuth, union (tn), has a competive program as well as u of memphis (which by the way has any one heard of how jerrod bricher is doing?), but besides those two programs you would have to check out the other schools that have been mentioned. Coming from Tennessee i will NEVER understand why we do the things we do. A) our state help for college expences is a joke compared to some other states, between this and the limit of soccer programs there are in tenn. it makes it almost impossible to play and get a cheaper good-education. The price of a privite college tution is insane. Title 9 hurts this area more then anything. /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> i do not understand why we play in the spring. This hurts our club teams and the recruiting process for player in tenn. Every college coach is finishing his recruiting by the time tenn starts there high school season, but then again i would rather see kids play with there club team then there high school team. If you want to play at the next level then i say go for it. as for D-III schools, they are not allowed to give soccer scholarships but trust me if they want you they will find a way to help you pay for school..... ethier way if you want to play then it's probolly going to cost you something, remember it's very hard to work while in season (not to say it can't be done.... i know). It's a sacrifice but it's worth it. Go visit the college veiw the atmosphere and if you feel like you can spend four years of your life LIVING in a place like that then that's what's most important. college is much bigger then soccer. If title 9 didn't exist and every college had soccer programs then there's no way i would have ended up playing for a small school. I had BIG hopes in high school and dreamed of playing D-I ball. I wish everyday i was in an actually city. i'm from knoxville and i miss being in a place that big (didn't relize how big knoxville was till now). Sacrifices will be made somewhere down the road.don't know why that face is in my text above???? oh well
  24. sounds like cleveland is having a good pre-season what's there schdule like and are they ready for the season?

    Title 9

yeah i don't blame you for not making that drive.... i'm really glad to hear that information and hear that clubs are helping kids play at the next level. i have noticed more kids from knoxville starting to sign with some of these more local programs but didn't know if the same amount of talent falls to the waste-side for i have been away from knoxville club soccer for way to long and only hear of a few things about high school (i still keep tabs as much as i can).
