  1. To The Miller Family: We are so sorry to hear about this terrible loss for your family. Having just heard, we are still stunned and our hearts go out to you. We have had the privilege of spending some time at tournaments, matches, and on the mats with Jackie and Jeremy, and have also enjoyed meeting several family members. Our thoughts and prayers will go out constantly for you all. May God bring comfort and rest to you all. The Taylor Family
  2. You know the drill. Besides, I thought you guys just like to characterize it as, "a rebuilding year"?
  3. Seymour: Luke Hall, Ryan King, Tyler McCroskey, Isaac Legg, Marcus Reagan, Cody Watson, & Chris Beard. Also watch for some other wrestlers from Sevier County schools.
  4. My original question stemmed from information I received that the TSSAA was adopting or had adopted companion regulations to the statute, but I doubt if that is the case. It doesn't seem like an area the TSSAA would get involved with. From what I have been able to determine to date, there may be some additional statutory language which doesn't take effect until July 1, 2008. The statute cited above apparently became effective last year. I am researching this issue and will post my results when complete. This idea was originally supposed to protect school systems from liability caused by the apparently common practice of many booster clubs, for all types of school activities, who were informally operating under the tax exempt status of the related school system. It appears that, as usual, our "part time" legislators have casually adopted statutes which were written by someone else, perhaps even lobbyists, and which took what seemed like a good idea at the time but which reached beyond the original intent, to create an administrative nightmare. If followed to the letter, this law could require school systems to hire additional employees just to monitor and insure compliance by the many parents' organizations which make these student activities/athletics possible. Many booster clubs barely operate now on the backs of thousands of parents who want to support their kids, and this law could lead to the disappearance of these types of organizations. Consequently, some of the related activities will no doubt suffer and some may not be able to function at all. It presents a pretty heavy burden for these small volunteer booster type organizations. Wrestling is a sport that will probably be hurt significantly as many of us can only sustain a program with the assistance, both with time and money, of parent support organizations. I will bring some more information to this board as soon as I finish looking into it.
  5. Perhaps I missed any discussion on this topic, but I've been informed that the TSSAA either has a newly effective rule or will soon require all booster type organizations to qualify for and maintain true non-profit tax status. Does anyone have any information about the above? If this is true, it poses quite a burden for smaller schools and booster clubs.
  6. While waiting for the end of the year message from Bear Cat Brown, I began contemplating the origin of my moniker or, "Just what did that lady really mean when she said that?" It didn't take much time on the web to discover that, unlike the hurtful term many folks connect with the word "Cretin', us "Cretins from the sticks" have much in common with good old Bear Cat Brown. In fact, Joseph Cretin was the first Roman Catholic Bishop of Saint Paul, Minnesota for whom Cretin High School (founded as a secondary school for boys in 1871), now Cretin-Derham Hall High School, a Catholic co-educational high school, was named. And yes, they wrestle. Alas, they aren't called the "Irish", but still, in that we share such a rich heritage, is it possible that Bear Cat Brown and us Cretins are distant cousins?
  7. What about a "jamboree" type event? Does that count as a scrimmage or can you have four scrimmages and participate in a jamboree?
  8. Did anyone ever post the complete results for D1, Region II? If not, where can we get a copy?
  9. Yes, and it would be nice to have them posted, just as have so many other regions.
  10. Will someone please post the Region 2 seeds?
  11. Congratulations to Notre Dame on its third State Championship. It was a solid and memorable performance. Kudos also to Greenback for finishing in fourth place. Great job! Also, I'm proud of the (27-2) Eagles, whose weekend didn't go as hoped, but who didn't back away from adversity and fought despite a tough situation. Thanks for a good season.
  12. I already told you everything I've got to say (in the message I sent BCB through my twin, the good twin), about the matter, so: BOOM! Here come the boys from the South! All that's left to be said will be spoken on the mat tomorrow. See you there.
  13. It would be interesting to know how the "fllu" or its kin will affect the championships this weekend. Last year it seemed to be more of a factor at the individual tournaments, but this year it is apparently hitting kids pretty hard statewide a little earlier.
  14. I'll try and get you a copy after they hand out the "big boy Hardware" at the State Championship. (By the way, the reason you are beloved is because you don't mind to say it out loud. Oh, and it is cojones, or you can say mettle, pluck, nerve, daring, guts, courage or grit.) See you in a few weeks.
  15. Please. It was a "Congratulations to both teams." No need to dissect a compliment, just take it in the spirit it was given, a nice gesture for two schools' accomplishments. Thanks. Besides, when these two teams aren't competing with each other for championships we need to be standing shoulder to shoulder against the rest of the state (according to BCB, apparently, that's Hixson & Notre Dame - everyone's favorite team, except for . . . ) . . . the boys from the South! Boom!
  16. That's a very real possibility. I've never seen the Eagles so banged up, with between four and five out with injuries since the Bradley tournament. And the timing could not be worse. This could be a tough week for the Blue and Gold which began the season with so much promise.
  17. Cute . . . but as always, Seymour does its talking on the mat.
