  1. Pardon me? Did I read that post correctly?
  2. Just saw on Twitter where 3 'older' players were dismissed from the team today for hazing a younger player. Kid had to have surgery at Erlanger for whatever happened during their tournament games in Gatlinburg. Anyone know for a fact what happened? No hearsay here. Just the facts.
  3. Bradley Central beat Greeneville 69-63 today and plays the winner of the Cookeville/Berean Academy in the title game on Monday at 8:00 CST. Clarkrange played King's Academy today at 8:00 p.m. and Smith County played Warren County today at 11:00 a.m. in the other games.
  4. I have seen East Hamilton this year and came away very impressed with their new Coach Tony Williams. I've followed him from Lenoir City to Rhea County and now to East Hamilton. He is a class guy with integrity and he will make you proud as your coach along with Bailey Reeves as his assistant. I for one hope that all of District 5-AAA moves up in quality of play in the very near future. Do not be surprised if EHHS gets 3rd or even 2nd in the district. Cleveland has been devastated by injuries to three starters. Walker Valley is going thru yet another coaching change for the 4th time since David Tucker left and could struggle some. Bradley Central will again be the team to beat and I wouldn't look down my nose at McMinn County as they've picked up some new talent for Coach MacPhail. Best of luck to every team in our area. May your wins be many and your injuries be few! Also best of luck to Hamilton Heights in their season.
  5. Why can't they be in the conversation about local basketball? Sounds like you have an ax to grind. They are talented and well-coached. Yes, they do recruit as is their right since they are not members of the TSSAA. No one is forcing you to play them but it would only help your team if you had the guts to do it. Why be hatin' on young girls that are only trying to become a great team? These same girls will be taking the college scholarships that your girls are missing out on if you don't watch out. The HH girls are a pleasure to watch compared to most girls teams in the Chattanooga area. Girls basketball has reached a nadir in recent years. I don't think I have to point that out to anyone who has seen how bad it really is.
  6. Looks like the Bears may be a little better that some of the media and coaches predicted in the media day event. They Bears stand alone at the top of the district after whipping CHS in overtime at their place on Tuesday. Big games coming up for the Bears vs East Hamilton on Friday and at Walker Valley on Tuesday.
  7. The Bears take the match 38-29!
  8. Some of the players from this tournament that have signed college scholarships at this time are Akia Harris of Hamilton Heights to Tennessee Tech, Morgan Park's Gabrielle Cooper to Syracuse and MP's Deja Cage to Loyola of Chicago. Hamilton Heights should have the other three seniors that will sign somewhere this year. The Bearettes have no less than three juniors that will sign next year: Halle Hughes, Emma Kate Brown and Kailey McRee. Sophomore Rhyne Howard should be a D1 signee in two more years. Bearette senior Julia Gaither has indicated that she'll become involved in the medical field rather than play basketball in college. Down the roster there are more Bearettes preparing for college by playing for the Bearettes.
  9. Having seen every second of all 12 games, I can honestly state that this was one of the strongest tournaments in the 16 tourneys played. The Bearettes of Bradley Central are a state contender as is William Blount while Morgan Park out of Chicago is certainly a state contender in Illinois. We all know about the strengths of Hamilton Heights with their ability to recruit players at their discrection to take transfers without having to sit out a year. During the 16 years of its existence, the Bearette Thanksgiving tournament has included seven different state champions in its competition, some of which couldn't even win this Thanksgiving tourney. I expect to see some of this year's teams vying for the gold ball in March and HH will be a national contender in the NACA National Tourney So O2BBALL how can you hold the fact that HH is not in the TSSAA against them? You don't have to play them if you so choose. But I can promise you that they will make you a better team simply because they will take you out of your comfort zone. They will make you play ways that you don't enjoy and the only way to beat them is to make them play ways they don't enjoy playing either. That is how the Bearettes beat them Saturday night. Very unlike the 20+ point loss that the Lady Hawks put on the Bearettes just a couple of weeks ago. I congratulate Hamilton Heights. They make no bones about it that they are trying to build a basketball powerhouse in Chattanooga and they are on the verge of doing that. Be careful what you wish for when you say that it's not fair that they are not in the TSSAA. Just think if they were......they would absolutely dominate baskeball in this area with a couple of exceptions like Baylor, GPS and Bradley Central. Baylor and GPS offer 'financial aid' as needed (and as their sports teams need it). Bradley Central being a public school cannot recruit. But the winning tradition of BCHS certainly gains the attention of area girls and parents who see an opportunity to play for an elite program and get superb coaching to prepare a player for college. The Bearettes currently have 10 players on scholarship playing collegiately at both DI and DII as well as NAIA and NCAA DII schools. There will be several others from this Bearette team that will also sign scholarship papers, most of which will take place in two years because there are only two seniors on the team. Hamilton Heights has also shown a great ability to place girls and boys in the college ranks. Winning, hey it's an amazing thing. It will continue to be that way at the schools listed above.. Hamilton Heights picked up a jewel this year in slashing, driving, cutting, get-to-the-basket transfer Akia Harris from GPS. If GPS doesn't raise their tuition $6,000 more this year she would still be there. As it is now she only adds to the strength of HH. I expect they would be in the final four at the Glass House if it was allowed. I for one enjoy watching them play and wish them the best of luck this season.

Results will be posted here each day. Best of luck to all teams!
  11. Hey we got a home game and still have to travel 30 miles to play it. Bradley Central vs Riverdale.
  12. Junior Quarterback Cole Copeland Bradley Central. This season he has 2400 yds. passing for 24 touchdowns. He has also rushed for 800 yards and 16 touchdowns with a 68% completion rate. His high game was 31 of 41 and 464 yards on the road at Dobyns-Bennett with 5 touchdowns passing while also running for 122 yards and three scores as well. He has helped lead the Bears into playoffs with 7 victories. As a sophomore he accounted for 30 touchdowns. Pretty good credentials to be considered for the 6A Mr. Football award.
  13. I see way too many comments about the Bears losing to Oakland next week on the road. Why don't we play our next game with Riverdale first and then worry about the Patriots? Many teams get beat when looking ahead and you can bet that Coach Floyd and his staff will stop any talk about future games dead in the water. There is nothing more to focus on than next week's game. Win each play before you win the quarter, before you win the half, before you win the game.
  14. I agree with you. Just win your freaking games in the region and everything takes care of itself.
  15. As a Bear loyal fan supporter I would like to think that there is a lot more to the Bear team than just Copeland. He is a very special player but he will be the first to tell you that he doesn't do anything without his line offering protection and his receivers blocking when he runs. He also has some of the best receivers in all of east Tennessee to catch the ball and then add on yards after the catch. You can't overlook the Bear defense and what Coach Braswell has meant to the program this year. The Bear defense has been stiff all year, bending but not breaking for the most part. The Bears stand at 7-3 and are only two plays away from being 9-1 but as the saying goes-- if 'if's and but's were candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas'. Best of luck to both teams but I wish most of the luck will fall on the Bear side of the field. Here's looking forward to a great game and hopefully a dry field. It will be a tough battle between two teams with a great legacy and tradition at Bear Stadium. I hope we see a shoot out in a game in which all players come out healthy. The Bears and Coach Floyd will be ready. Whether or not we win the game will be determined by turnovers. Give me a turnover-free, penalty-free game for the Bears and I think that BCHS will prevail. Best of luck to both teams but I'm predicting the Bears win 35-28. Get ready for another Gatorade bath Coach Floyd. GO BEARS!!!
  16. You will have to play in the playoffs if you are 6A. There will be no forfeiting. The T$$AA won't allow that and it wouldn't be fair to other teams that do have to play. My suggestion is that you put on your big boy panties and figure out what is wrong with your program, coaches, athletic department, etc. Consistent losing is no fun for anyone. Everyone (except Maryville) goes through a losing season once in a while. Do your best and go down in flames. BUT NEVER GIVE UP! Best of luck to every team the rest of the year.
  17. The Bears' 56 points scored last night was the most that D-B has given up in 53 seasons. Oak Ridge beat the Indians 62-14 in 1962. Also Tyler Carpenter's 17 receptions for the Bears last night is 4th all-time in state history according to the TSSAA. James Stovall of BCHS is still 2nd all-time with 20 vs Oak Ridge in 2011. Cole Copeland was 31 of 41 passing last night for the Bears for 464 yards and 5 td's. He rushed for 115 yards and scored 3 td's in the 2nd half. That's 8 td's for Copeland and 579 total yards of offense. His total passing yards are 2nd all-time at BCHS to his uncle Brent Copeland who amassed 495 yards in 1996 vs Cookeville on 42 of 56 passing and 7 td's. The Bears dropped that game 52-48.
  18. The game was played on Thursday because both county and city schools are off next week and they thought it would bring out more fans to play Thursday. A lot of folks are heading out for fall break and leaving on Friday. No one knew at the time that Hurricane Joaquin would deluge the field. That hurt the gate more than playing on Thursday. I watched it live on TV last night although coverage didn't begin until 8:30 and the game was basically over by then. I think the Raiders took the night off emotionally and it showed. By the way, the Bears stream all their home games on the internet.
  19. oridgecat--According to the TSSAA there are NO FEEDER SCHOOLS in Tennessee. NONE. NADA. ZILCH. NIL. If a high school coach contacts a middle school student in any way concerning sports at their school, then he or she is in violation of the TSSAA policy. It is a very unfortunate rule that is violated repeatedly probably about every day in the state of Tennessee. This is the very reason that both these schools have been cited for breaking the TSSAA policy. At least that's what the letter from the TSSAA has reported to each school.
  20. Warriors win 53-45. They will host Lawrence County on Tuesday while Bradley Central will travel to Blackman. Best of luck to both teams on Tuesday!
  21. Starting at 2:00 p.m. with Cumberland County/Cookeville girls. White County/Cookeville boys at 3:30. Bradley Central/White County girls at 5:00 and Bradley Central/Stone Memorial boys at 6:30. All times Eastern at Ooltewah High School. Championship games are scheduled for 6:00 and 7:30 on Saturday at this time but times could possibly be changed.
  22. Sounds like Obama was coaching this game to me. He tries to give everything else away!
