  1. While the fact that if you get another assistant at Wartburg, everyone else will want one too is true, Wartburg football is the only program in the county that competes in double A in anything. To continue with the idea that 1 head coach and 1 assistant can get it done is clearly not working. And if every high school in the county got another supplimental assistant coach, it would cost about $6,000.00. Yes for most of us, that is a good chunk of change but for a county government, not a large expenditure. Perhaps that could possibly paid out of the athletic budget through the school board the way they pay bus drivers for driving to games, custodians for clean up etc. That is where the administrative support really comes in. They need to find ways to make these things work!!!! Not place road blocks in the path of progress. To keep doing what we have always done and expect a different result is crazy. Go Bulldogs!! 2. Well Cleats, this sounds like someone who has some potential. What age guy are we talking about?? What would it take to get him to the Burg? How long has he been at the other places? Jackson County and L.A.?? Was he at L.A. when they won their State Championship?? That was a great run!! Why is he ready to move on? Sounds like a lot of potential there. Lets hear some more. 3. Your point is well taken and right on target. We need a long term commitment and someone who will be here to stay and not here on his way to somewhere else. We are in total agreement there. While I too think that the pay increase for head coaches is a move in the right direction, we also need to talk to the powers that be about adding another paid assistant for Wartburg and then work with the administration to find 2 good young assitant coaches. Wartburg Football is the only program in the county to compete in double A in anything. While I would like to have it all for our kids, I at least want a chance to rebuild a program that could be competitive for my son's final 2 years. Any word on interviews or potential candidates??? Was told there were very few local candidates last time. Would like to get someone in place to begin off season workouts. Merry Christmas to all and Go Bulldogs Knock Knock
  4. Young, Old or Middle Aged doesn't make a difference to me. Joe Layne will be a great basketball coach when he is in his 50s because he is a great coach now. Colt Narramore is a great coach in his second year. It is not about age it is about desire, work ethic and personal integrity that will make a great coach. All that being said, one huge difference between the basketball and football program is the sheer numbers of players and the lack of help at Wartburg. One paid assistant and two volunteer assistants will not allow the coaches the time to work with individual players to develop their skills. More money for a head coach is nice, but until you are able to get paid assistant coaches in the building (more than 1) much won't change. Without position coaches in the school, building relationships, recruiting the halls, and getting kids out, Fulmer or Spurrier or Saban won't win there. Whoever is hired will need to have enough experience to know how to get teams ready to play the Region 2 AA schedule (toughest in the state) and work with the feeder system of the Middle School and the Little League and know enough about fundementals to get players better each year. Coach Bangley did many good things, but the Bangley era is over. We need to find someone who plans on being here 5+ years and will become a part of the local community. The seniors will now be playing for their 3rd head coach in the last 4 years. Not a way to build a program. Any news on when the job will be posted or when the interviews will start. Knock Knock
  5. Don't know who the next coach will be just yet. Seems that the powers that be want to go through a full fledged search and hiring process like last time. As for the reason for leaving, I am not really sure except that there was some trouble getting the family from Florida to Tennessee. I hope the next coach can stay longer and build a program that can compete. Coach Bangley did some good things here and whoever follows will have some positive things to build upon. Knock Knock
  6. H3ll no Coach King shouldn't resign. He had a young team that played in several close games and kept them close. He AND his staff are pretty good at getting kids ready to play. His young team and a new offense will be better this next year. A youth and lack of depth puts pressure on a team and when this Kingston Team grows up a little and develops more depth, they will be fine.
  7. Pennington was too short to play QB at UT. He was 6'2" and still had some growing to do. How can a 5'10" Cobb fit their mold for the QB position. I am glad UT is in on him, he is a dynamic player, but he is not the size of SEC Quarterbacks. I am glad that UT is doing more local recruiting. I'm just afraid he is too short.
  8. heck, if I could prove it I would be talking with Ronnie Carter not you. Your pot boy was a tuition kid from Harding Valley, that was one. One of your coaches told me that. The one with the convertible. Langster was from Bearden. I had his brother T-bone in class at Pellissippi who explained that situation . He went to AE for the magnet program. Brother went to Alcoa for the athletic program. That is two from Knox County and I haven't even tried to dig up too much. Now if I were you, I wouldn't throw that gauntlet down to hard. Just use the line about the fine academic program. It sounds much more convincing. So being an outsider I have the story on 2.
  9. Yeah, it really is not the number of students, but the number of recruits that determines the Tornado success. If they couldn't recruit South Knox county and West Knox County, and other areas of Blount county, they would not have near the number of athletes. So as you see, It is not how high the enrollment, it is how many athletes you get into your feeder program at the middle school level.
  10. Do they teach English at Harriman, or is that what passes for English?? That was one long sentence. Well knock knock, I don't care if the people have opinion. That doesn't matter. As a player myself, I know what happens on the field and I know what happens when we get upset off. But I think I know what happend when there was 2 mins left in the 3rd quarter. ?? unsure how to correct this one ?? More than the fans did so personally I wish they had a "fans only" and a "players only" fourms. It would take care of a lot your bull crap. IF YOU DON"T WANT TO READ IT, DON'T LOG ON. THAT IS WHY THEY CALL IT A FORUM YOU MORON!!!
  11. How many Yellow Jackets will be watching instead of playing this week. Heard this morning that the TSSAA was reviewing the tape and would issue a decision soon. Any word???
  12. quote Let me remind you of something there Bill, seems that the game was on TV and there were a lot of people in the stands. Those in the stands bought a 5.00 ticket that helps support the program. These folks have every right to have an opinion and express in a forum just like this. If you don't want comment, close the games to the public and no one will have an opinion. But then again, you won't have a program because no one will care.
  13. Was not at the game, but am sure that TSSAA will have a say as to who plays and who doesn't next week as well as Coach Kreis and Coach Tapp. Another issue that has not been addressed is that the refs seemed not to have control of the game. When they let that stuff go early, it will always get out of hand. As bad as the crew was at the Wartburg O.S. game last night, there was never a doubt about who was running the show and the unsportsmanlike stuff was called early and often. As a result, control was maintained. Last year was not the same. Officials seem to hesitate to call this stuff in close games. As a result, they can get out of control. Was there personal fouls and bench warnings prior to the brawl?? Doesn't sound like there was. It is a shame that a good close hard fought game has to be remembered for such a negative incident. 14. I was at the game and was amazed at how well they played. In the 1st half, 1 big play, a safety and the kick off returned for a TD after the safety, were the only scores until the last minute or so. Holding Loudon to 2 offensive TD's in the 1st half was something. Then a scoreless 3rd quarter and a TD midway through the 4th. Several tackles for loss. A few sacks and a defense that was really running to the ball. Overall a great effort for those kids!!!! They are getting better and still playing hard. They gave Loudon all they wanted. Knock Knock
  15. Seems you tornado fans under estimated the Dawgs. Score at the end of the 1st Quarter 7-0 Alcoa. Early in the 2nd 7-6 Alcoa. Toward the end of the 2nd two scores make it 21 - 6 Alcoa. In the 2nd half depth took over and they ran it out to the 49 - 6 final. Everyone should know the 6 came as an answer to the 1st Alcoa score. It was closer much longer than any Tornado fan ever thought. I guess the Cancun's trip had to be put on hold for a while. The Mercy rule did not go into effect until mid way through the 4th quarter. Alcoa has a tremendous team. If the under estimate anyone else, they are liable to get beat. We never really had the fire power to compete, but they let us hang around anyway way too long. So to all who gave us no chance, you don't know our team. We don't quit and we will play for 4 quarters. Good Luck next week. KnockKnock
  16. Sometimes it takes a while for the right track to translate into wins. However, if your team has struggled for wins for some time, are you really surprised that many people expect a 4-0 CAK team to win convincingly? Is that arrogance or making a logical prediction. Doesn't mean it will turn out that way, but CAK should be a strong favorite by anyone picking this game based on the information we have. Your fans and others have suggested that this game is worthless, we should use 2 hand touch rules and other off hand comments to indicate that Wartburg is not a "worthy" opponent. I offered that there were "worthy" opponents in the private school division. Also, don't be so sure that good middle school athletes are not "encouraged" to explore their options at CAK. The question then becomes when does that become "undue influence" as defined by the TSSAA. I have no problem with the predictions. I do take issue with the (to use your word) arrogant attitude. Talk about irresponsible and need to show some class. You have every right to be proud of your kids working and playing hard. You seem to miss the point here yourself. I have in no way minimized the accomplishments of CAK. I do know they cast a wide net. I also know that there has been an infusion of resources to make the program better. Perhaps the recruiting/scholarship issue is a sore one with you. There was nothing classless or irresponsible in that post. If it offended, that was not the intent and I appologize. I only pointed out significant differences between your program and others. Resources at a small school can make a tremendous difference. CAK is a fine example of that. I sincerely hope Wartburg plays well Friday and more importantly builds a strong program, but you really missed it in your post. I also hope for a good game, that no one suffers serious injury and that sportsmanship and competition will be highlighted and uplifted. Calling this game worthless does nothing toward any of that.
  17. Ok, Ok, Ok, you all have it all figured out. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" Perhaps there is no need to even show up except that it is a region game. Our kids are playing and it is important to them. I hope that all of the CAK players read this crap you all are putting on the board. That way, by the time they get here Friday, they will have trouble getting the inflated egos and swelled heads off the bus. You people really kill me. Perhaps the mercy rule will end up in effect, but that will not diminish the work and effort my kid and the other 40 + players, managers and coaches are putting in. You seem to have forgotten where you have came from. I was at the game last year, it was not settled until midway through the second half. Not too long ago, CAK was struggling for respectability. If we had the infusion of money, athletes, and resources we too could turn around our program and possible provide a better game. We don't have the personal trainers, tutors and tuition assitance to compete at your level. We never will, because we are a public school. Now if you all are so much better than those of us in the public school division, haul yourselves into the private school division and compete where you can legally recruit to your hearts content. Until then, show a little humility, some of the class that I know you have and lets have a ball game for the kids sake. It is not about us, it is about the kids. PS most folks use fullbacks in the offensive backfield. Unsure about a foulback, but I am always learning about this game. Regards KnockKnock
  18. Do they even teach English in the schools in Scott County, as much as I hate to agree with CY, he was right!!! Coalfield by themselves could probably beat Scott High, add the rest of the county and it would not be close. I am not sure of Oneida's schedule, but seems to me that an 8-0 run is NOT LIKELY. So quit foaming at the mouth, wake up out of your dream world and get back to reality.
  19. Wartburg prayers also go out for Coach K's son. Now about that Scott County folks are so dominant, maybe they should play each other for the "ultimate dream world championship" Oh wait, they can't; they' scared. Give me a break. Oneida is 0-2, Scott is 2-0 over a couple of teams that aren't very good right now. When both of those teams get through their region schedule, perhaps an intelligent exchange can occur about this and that.
  20. I think the future is bright in Wartburg after watching the JV kids go at it. That is the same group that had success in the middle school the last couple of years. If they keep it together and keep their kids in the program, in a couple of years, they will be a force to contend with. I think the Coach Bangley has done a good job of getting effort out of the kids. If they can get the mistakes fixed and get into a little better shape, ( they looked like they got tired) they will be alright. Knockknock!!!
  21. Well then keep yourselves away from Oakdale on Thursday and shut up. When was the last time Scott County produced a state Championship in Football, oh yeah it was the Indians of Oneida. When the great Highlander tradition gets established, perhaps you can rag on everyone else. Until then, those who live in glass houses......
  22. That will depend on what offense the Highlanders will run. Since you think that Scott will win by 35, you probably are worried about any defense being played. I would hope that the Wartburg faithful of which I am one, would keep quiet about the sets formations and defenses that will be run. Less said the better. Let the coaches swap scrimmage tape. Wartburg scrimmages this Friday I think, what about the Highlanders?
  23. Not in the same line of cheating but against the rules none the less is the rampant amount of recruiting that goes on in Tennessee. Some schools are notorious for it and nothing seems to happen. Since the Brentwood Academy case, seems that the TSSAA has not been real interested in investigating complaints. Clear violations of eligibility rules seem to go unnoticed. Is this a problem all over or just in our little corner of East Tennessee??
  24. Wartburg has a Coach, John Bangley. He is running the program and so far doing a good job. There is a good mix of older players returning, younger players from a couple of successful middle school programs who are growing up, and kids who are coming out for the first time. And all indications are that he will be a difference. I think that there will be a noticeable difference.
  25. Medicine Man speaks the most sense I have heard in a while. Thank you for adding a little perspective to this thread. Great comments and thanks for adding "positive" material to this discussion. As for Stack, if you have no interest, why are you posting on the Wartburg Thread???? This Thread was started by Lil Hoot in order to try to get some "local" discussion. 5 of the last 10 post have been from you all up North. Free country and a free discussion board, but If you have no interest, why are you all always posting???? If you have no interest, go back to your own thread. Remember, bring your money and visit the concession stand often. It will be brand new you and you all will get to break it in.
