  1. Personally, I would like to see TSSAA have a better ruling concerning summer AAU programs. Assistant TSSAA coaches should be allowed the opportunity to gain coaching experiencing, help improve their schools programs/players, and this would allow head coaches to keep a better eye on their players concerning burnout, overworking, bad habits, and continue continuity in the way things are taught. But, alas, AAU is often left to parents and/others who aren't as concerned about a particular school but only looking out for their children's success, their own ego, and more concerned with winning tournaments then about the kids they are coaching. This would not be the case if someone in house was coaching players they already know, in a system the athletes already have an understanding of, and players they generally already care for. While this is not feasible at smaller schools and programs, if a respected TSSAA assistant coach is coaching a team in my area, a varsity coach at a smaller program would more than likely entrust said player to be a part of the team.
  2. sounds like a good ole fashion boxing match.
  3. I've been seeing and hearing about how DCA is the top team in A basketball, and was wondering how the game between Ezell went. I heard that Ezell led for most of the game and seems like the game was a good match-up. Does any have an update on some of the scorers or highlights?
  4. before any talk of a dynasty they must win no. 1.
  5. Is this game being played at the ole Pearl gym?
  6. The reason they used the press is because MT Juliet is a pressing team and their coaches don't allow them to underestimate any opponent, but once the game was in control the coach called off the press and emptied the bench. Congrats to the Bears.
  7. The only problem that I have with this rule is that when a player gets into foul trouble and the coach doesn't have ESP to know that this player was going to get there 3rd or 4th foul and soon as that player gets the foul the coach has to get a player off the bench and to the table and a ref has not allowed them to substitute because that player was not already at the table. Most officials use common sense knowing that once a player gets their 3rd foul in the 2nd quarter or 4th in the 3rd that the coach is going to sub and allows the player in the game, but they officially don't have to allow the player in the game b/c there were not at the table at the time the foul was called.
  8. And deservingly so, I think all the girls should be given the day off or at least allowed to come to school a little later.
  9. Losing a coach, especially one of Ricker's caliber, is going to have an adverse effect on the team. Looks like a lot of teams are getting their first wins over traditionally good teams. Is their a little more parity in the TN girls game then years past?
  10. I saw where the Sells girl is a freshman and led all scorers. Is she one of the better freshmen prospects in the district? How is Atnip's knee coming along? Also heard that Durr was hurt? Even if everyone was 100% it would still be tough for Watertown to beat FCS. Was the game even competitive tonight? This program has come a long way since the days of winning 0 games though.
  11. "Beech is ranked in the top ten in the midstate from what the Tennessean says. They must be doing something right." NO Way, they must be looking at some other beech team.
  12. We shall see how good this team is when they battle DCA. Doesn't look like the two guards from Ezel had a very good ballgame, partly because of DA's defense, i'm sure. DA has a very solid ballclub and has improved a lot since losing to Clarkrange and Friendship early in the season while Waller was recovering from an accident. The DCA vs. DA game is (hopefully) going to be a good one, but i've heard that DCA is very tough and favored to win state.
  13. long time no hear, zo has been awakened. i agree that MJ is a well oiled machine but I'm sure Central will give them their best shot of the season, only team that has a snowball's chance at getting MT. Juliet in the regular season this year, but after being beat last year with Clark hurt, I'd say Clark comes in on a mission and her teammates will follow suit trying to beat Central by double digits. I think this team is mad about falling short last year, and nothing but a Gold Ball will do. Keep your eye on the prize girls, and don't let up. Hope you beat Central by 50.
  14. If Gordonsville is better than Westmoreland, than none of these teams will make it past the regions.
  15. i bet they called out the fire trucks and police cars and had a parade down mainstreet. Congrats.
  16. i wouldn't give Paige too much space from the high post, she'll make a good percentage of those, just hard to double someone when they are surrounded by shooters. Best bet might be the ole Allen Iverson rule, let Clark score at will and shut down everyone else.
  17. Westmoreland has a good group of freshmen, Mt. Juliet's got the cream of the crop of fr. and so., Macon County has a good soph. pg that could be good. Time will tell, these girls are just a knee injury and boyfriend away from being out of basketball or just being average.
  18. i still didn't get any answers to the aforementioned questions, so i would be making an uninformed inquiry into this situation. But from what i gathered Wed. night services are the ones in question, not Sunday morning which is the Lord's Day, Wed. night services are a recent phenomena from WWII in which people gathered to pray for troops, but that's beside the point. If this was truly an act of religious descrimination the player needs to go through the proper channels, if this was about playing time, and/or unwillingness to do make-up work for missing (good policy Coach 15) then the situation is probably finished. Of course, it would be total hypocrisy if said player played AAU, because all of their tournaments are played on SAT. (Sabbath) and Sundays (Lord's Day) and many practice late on Wed. due to lack of gym time/space. Lot of ?'s to be answered.
  19. Once girls are dunking semi-regularly (which I doubt) it will be the end to the fundamentally sound girls basketball game that we love. Instead of working on dribbling, passing, shooting layups, and mid range jump shots all the girls will be working on their dunking skills. OH this trend already has happened in the men's game.
  20. Would need more info. to comment on the situation. Was practice called on Sunday during regular worship services? Is there an issue over when gym time can be secured? What is the policy of the school regarding religious discrimination concerning sports? Was there an attempt at a compromise between the player and school before participating in athletics? Did the player/coach have a discussion concerning this issue beforehand? I'm not sure of the law but I'm not sure a player can be prevented from any school activity/function because of religious practices. I think this is protected under the Equal Rights Amendment.
  21. best in a while in 06. Just 4 years ago the 3 AAA miss basketball finalists were Abi Ramsey, Brittany Jackson, and Jennifer Johnson. I'm not too sure I've seen 3 girls since that compare to that class.
  22. If I'm not mistaken, Mt. Juliet didn't lose anybody off of last years team and they gained a "decent" little sophmore named Vanatta, with the Bears run of bad luck injuries in the past few years with Lockridge and Clark, I would like to see them run the table undefeated. Its a classy bunch of folks up there, so I wish them the best of luck.
  23. the region matchup between ezell, davidson, DCA, and FRA should be a good one to watch unfold. Westmoreland is playing some good ball but is very young, but them and Gordonsville and Clay County should battle it out pretty good.
