  1. Football program is struggling ,that's a given, but the band is a top priority???? Guess you've forgotten about the success of other programs in Siegel's short history...basketball, volleyball, girls soccer, golf, tennis, cross country.
  2. I do believe Siegel also brought home the big trophy in girls soccer just last year :
  3. As much as I disagree with running up a score, I don't agree with giving them a goal. Keepers and the defense take great pride in shutouts, wouldn't be fair to take that away from them in a game when they are probably not getting much action anyway.
  4. wholelottalove obviously wasn't at the game becauses the starters came out with about 10 min left in the first half and I am not going to tell my freshman and sophmores not to play hard. I think it is more of an embaressment to tell a team that they are not worth playing than to just play hard. If you want to get better, it's not going to help if your opponent doesn't play. Besides, this is high school soccer not some recreation league. I don't know this team or the coach, but no explanation will change my mind, IMO it's just classless of any coach to run up the score like this. Don't even get me started on the 18-0 scores. This argument comes up every year. Look at many of the traditionally strong soccer programs across the state year in and year out and you won't see those lopsided scores, although they are more than capable of it. A good coach respects his opponents. Period.
  5. Were you at the game. That keeper has never given up 4 goals to Brentwood, for an entire season..She is out for at least one week with a concussion. The good thing is that will meet again in districts. As the old saying goes, what goes around, comes around.... I hope the keeper is okay, but as far as the old saying goes, is this coming from the same team that slammed a Siegel player when she and the ball were already out of bounds last year and broke her back? I believe she was out for more than a week. Just a thought...
  6. First, I would like to say some of us are just envious that a reporter is actually covering a soccer game, much less getting quotes from anybody. East Tennessee always seems to get a fair amount of coverage for high school soccer. In Middle Tennessee, traditionally a hotbed for strong soccer teams, we're lucky to get much more than a box score if even that. It improves a little in the post season, but it's just sad that a bad football team gets more press than even the best soccer team. As someone else said, I don't know anything about the particular game or coach or reporter that sparked this discussion. But it's been our experience that more often than not, the reporters that are sent to cover a soccer game just aren't that knowledgeable about the game. I don't think they are misreporting as much as they don't always understand what it is they saw.
  7. 1. Siegel 2. Riverdale or Oakland 3. Riverdale or Oakland 4. Blackman 5. Smyrna 6. Lavergne Could be some upsets this year. Too early to tell. Doesn't look as though any of the teams are really deep this year. An injury or two could make an impact on several teams. Hopefully, that won't happen.
  8. 1. Siegel 2. Riverdale or Oakland 3. Riverdale or Oakland 4. Blackman 5. Smyrna 6. Lavergne Tough to call this year. Siegel and Riverdale both lost key players, but should still be strong. Oakland was young last year and looked very promising. I don't think the addition of Smyrna and Lavergne will make that much of an impact this year but I could be wrong.
  9. These polls are really just to give fans an opportunity to voice their opinions on some of the players they may have seen play over the course of the season. The media has their own list of players that will be recognized on the TSWA all state list as do the coaches and the individual schools. This is just another way for a player to be recognized for their outstanding play. To get so upset because a child is not on the list or to bash someone for making a list is ludicrous. But to talk about "daddy Ball" after you nominate your own kid is just funny.
  10. Wonder how far Siegel would have gotten without Caralisa Connell....probably about as far as last year. She's a great pitcher who made a huge contribution to her team this year on the mound and at the plate. Disappointing poor sportsmanship coming from her own team....
  11. First of all, I have to congratulate the Lady Warriors. Great job - you deserve it. As far as the DNJ goes though, I have to agree. they do seem a little partial to the school on Warrior Drive. One of their top ten sports stories for the year (may have been one of the top five-can't remember) was Riverdales football team not making it to the playoffs. It even ranked above state championship teams in Murfreesboro and other positive sports stories for the year. Sadly, the DNJ doesn't realize Murfreesboro isn't a two horse town anymore. Half of the town is no longer Riverdale supporters. I'm sure the Riverdale fans probably don't even realize the difference in press coverage, but the Blackman, Siegel, Oakland, Smyrna and Lavergne supporters do.
  12. The second best team will be the team who doesn't win on Saturday.
  13. I think my point is being missed, I don't think the other sports should be made double elimination, why not make baseball and softball single elimination like the other sports?
  14. I see your points, but still not buying into it. I know in travel basketball and soccer, both very physically challenging sports, multiple games in one day is the norm. These are often the best conditioned athletes. They would be able to play more than one game a day and certainly one game a day for a few days. I would think that game time would be a factor but that favors the other sports. For example, a soccer game has no timeouts. Games don't generally last much longer than the clock on the scoreboard. And basketball and football are timed as well. I've been to softball and baseball games that lasted forever. Just seems like the fair way to do it would be across the board the same, all single or all double. Once you get into post season play, you just can't have an "off" game. IMO thats what separates the champions from the runners up.
  15. This is not entirely on the topic, but it would make a difference in how much a tournament costs a fan. Someone enlighten me as to why baseball and softball are double elimination in the state tournament and other sports are not??? Football, basketball, soccerand tennis are all one and done. Whats's the difference?
  16. If you're close to the Murfreesboro area, you may want to consider volunteering to work an event. The spring fling is largely run by volunteers who do not get paid but do get admission to the events. They are still needing volunteers so you may want to volunteer for a time or place that will still allow you to follow your team.
  17. Just to clarify, no need to question, I trust Coach Shelton will make the best decisions for his team. But I doubt this was solely his decision. And just for arguments sake, if we're basing everything on regular season play, why even have a district tournament?
  18. I believe Coach Shelton has the bigger picture in mind and made his decision on what he thought was best for his team. He's a smart and proven coach,Im sure he didn't make this decision lightly. But for Riverdale to assume they "deserve" the title of district tournament champions because of their hard work all season that got them to this point is just wrong. Even though it is a great accomplishment for the team, realistically, the only thing an unbeaten season in district play gets you is the number one seed in the tournament. Once post season play begins, its a whole new season. Both teams will have to prove themselves all over again and what happened in regular season play doesn't matter. Hopefully, both teams will get that shot in a Regional Finals matchup.
  19. Congratulations Stars! We'll be cheering for you!
  20. I'm confused at who got the red cards. So if Oakland got a red, that player sits out the next game, correct? Could be a problem at this stage.
  21. That's a lot of pressure to put on one kid. Win as a team, lose as a team. I'm sure if he has te flu, he feels bad enough without someone putting the loss on him not to mention the district championship.
  22. No one is trying to take away their entitlement to an education. But why should that include extracurricular activites? For those of us that send our children to school, we realize the extracurricular activities are important to the students and they enrich their education. But they are EXTRAcurricular activities, they are not required and many students that attend a school do not participate in them. It's not even limited to sports, what about choir or drama? Do you also think homeschooled kids should get to go to prom at the schools too since they don't have one of those either? IMO the biggest difference between those who homeschool and those who don't is that those that send their children to school believe that the ENTIRE school experience is a learning experience that will help to prepare their child for all aspects of life and that includes extracurricular activities. When you choose to homeschool your child, you choose to concentrate solely on the books or christian beliefs that a school may not be able to offer. Its somewhat of a tradeoff for both sides of the issue.
  23. To elaborate a little on my own post, the "school ball experience" is just so much more than playing the games, ask the kids. It's the relationships between the players and the coaches, the recognition from their teachers, leaving school early for games, being announced at pep rallys, wearing uniforms to school, being cheered for by your classmates and the list goes on... But If you really feel like homeschooling is the only way to educate your child, then you still probably won't understand.
