  1. To answer your question. They made a change that you have to finish in 1st or 2nd place to be guarenteed a play-off spot. It doent matter what class you are only the 1st & 2nd place teams are guarenteed to go to the play-offs. After that to fill out the rest of the play-off slots with wild cards the first thing they look at is most wins. So if you finish in 3rd place at 8-2 you are not guarenteed but you will probably make it because you have 8 wins. Even if all 8 wins were against 0-10 teams you go. Strength of schedule is the last step in tie breakers to make it. Im sure a couple of losing records might make it in but no 1 or 2 win teams will.
  2. Well with Young being the scoring machine that he is Jeff Co. better triple or even quadruple team him. Hes gonna score a few time & maybe more. Others will get into the act & bearden will roll 42-13.
  3. well they are just freshman & sophomores, so if they played against a varsity team then Im sure they probably struggled quite a bit.
  4. Yes they are located here in Knoxville as is obvious by the name. CAK is Christian Academy of Knoxville & KCS is Knoxville Christian School. This is their first year of High school football & it is on the JV level they had a middle school team the last year or 2. I think they start Varsity play next year from rumors I have heard. How did they do over there?
  5. I will tell you the biggest problem. We start playing football a week too early here in TN. If TSSAA really wanted to do something they would never start week 0 before the last Friday in August. Now it would still be hot but starting full pad practices before Aug. 1st is ridiculous. They put in the heat rule last year then they bumped practice up a week this year. They make absolutely no sense.
  6. The instrument that is used to check the heat index is supposed to be in a shaded area. it doesnt matter where you are practicing. If you hold it directly in the sun you will get false reads. I understand the concern, but seriously Im sure most coaches want to be safe no matter how frustrated they get. I think people like you should voice your concern rather than getting on here to run your mouth behind a computer.
  7. Seriously guys you all must not know much about this event. They dont keep score...most of the time they dont even move the ball up the field. They run a play & come back & run another one. Plus if you throw an interception you still keep the ball & run the next play. You cant say a team went 4-1 theres no way to keep a record you can only see if your team did well or not. & the school I was supporting rotated their 1st & 2nd groups every play to get them all plenty of reps. They werent trying to win they were trying to get better.
  8. Saw on another thread on the single a boards that a 1a school Sunbright was beating up on Karns real bad during this past Fridays scrimmage. If this is true Karns is more down than normal.
  9. Well its 1:45 CST any news yet?
  10. The football play-off comittee is presenting a new format for the upcoming season at the board of control meeting tomorrow. Does anyone know what it might look like?
  11. Im an outsider but I think I can settle this argument. Central has a few gold & silver balls. West has none. End of discussion.
  12. Let's be honest all private schools should play in the private school division period. Then this wouldn't be an issue you could give money to any kid you want, pay thier tuition or whatever you like. No one would complain if you guys played in the private school division. Even if a private school doesn't offer aid or scholarships they are still at an advantage because being private school alone draws people in, just go play D2 & if a public school wants to schedule you then thats their buisness. From rumors I've heard this case alone may be what pushes TSSAA into forcing all privates into D2 regardless of if they give scholarships or not. That rumor comes from someone at the TSSAA office.
  13. SS will do a good job at LaVergne he is a good coach that might have made a few bad choices during his time at Oak Ridge, but don't we all? Some people in Oak Ridge blew a lot of things out of proportion because they wanted him out as coach. The old saying "you can't go home" was made true in this case. SS is a good hire good luck to him & LaVergne. P.S. to Lavergne fans that are believing & reading the rumors from Oak Ridge......"Judge not lest ye be judged."
  14. Hey Alcoa plays Maryville every year & they are one of the best in the state. Bell Co. KY is a state championship contender every year in KY. What I would like to see is a school like Bearden or Farragut or any school in the Murfreesboro area play them. I dont think Alcoa would dodge them but the bigger schools might not want to take the chance at getting beat by a smaller school. We just need to face it when you combine D1 talent with great coaching their gonna beat most teams.
  15. At some point Karns needs to realize that have never had a great tradition. a few good years here & there sure but not a great tradition. How many different coaching staffs have been there during that time? My point....quit blaming coaches & look in the mirror the talent that Karns has is similar to a school such as Carter & thats not bad, it's just not enough to keep up with the schools that you have to play on a weekly basis. Also, who was the OC at Karns last year? Did he get fired? i know their changing their offense.
  16. Are you serious? There aren't any high school coaches in this state that are in it for the money. This state doesn't pay high school coaches hardly anything for coaching. Also, this idea sounds ludicrous....coaches apply for jobs at the schools they want to work at or with coaches they want to work with, if this happens you will see many coaches quit, because they don't make enough money to be told where they can or can't coach. Sounds like a bunch of parents got their panties in a wad & the school board is telling them this just to get them off their backs for a little while.
  17. I agree with you on this. I will add though that the Tony Franklin system if coached the right way allows you to run what your players are capable of running without changing the terminology & the offense. One year you may have a studd QB & sling it all over the field never have a TE or FB in the game. The next year you may have a studd FB & decide to run the ball over your opponents. You can do all of this within the system. The system is all about controlling the tempo & coaching up the small details. if the system failed at WC more than likely it is because the coaches didnt coach up the details & didnt completely buy in.
  18. I know sweetwater has a lot of tradition. What happened bring in a new coach & go 2-8. Was it just not a good fit or is the talent way down?
  19. coachinghopeful I see where you are coming from & i noticed that he mentioned every coach in the area too. Bad article with absolutely no solid pieces of information. But, as far as SH not being able to offer more than the other schools...well that all depends on how much the boosters really support them. If they get involved there can be a few thousand extra added in, albeit under the table money but this happens at a lot of places. Also, the school system can add in things such as paying the coach for field maintenance, which he may or may not have to do & paying him an extended contract. There are several ways to up the salary of a coach if a school wants him bad enough. Im sure some of the coaches on that list already get some of those benfits where they are at. High school football is much more competitive now days, with games being televised by ESPN & the pressure to get your players in college & seen by recruits. That is why you see coaches leaving schools & moving to other states just for coaching positions. Look at the new coach at Oak Ridge, originally from California where he was a coach, moved all the way to Hillsboro & then when OR came calling & offering more money he moves again. The days of High school sports just being a game are over & gone.
  20. We all remember the 30-0 beat down that Bearden gave to WB in the play-offs 2 years ago when WB had their "BEST" team in school history & played in the "toughest" region in the state. I think it will be more of the same this year. Bearden rolls 35-7.
  21. Whats wrong with the offense? A former colleague of mine is the defensive coordinator down there. I havent talked with him since spring, but it looks as though the defense is playing pretty well holding a team to 14. Is the offense just not clicking, is it penalties, turnovers? Whats the deal? Seasons young 0-2 doesnt mean 0-10. Good luck Wartburg
  22. You ever heard of the team concept. Every great team has a great player in this case Devrin Young, surrounded by a strong supporting class. This Jr. class that Devrin is a part of is very very talented. Combine them with the Srs. that are a very physical group & this TEAM can be great.
  23. Who are the jets playing in their jamboree?
  24. Im pretty sure this is not a tournament format. Every team gets 5 games & they rotate every ten plays offense & defense.
