  1. Hendersonville High School: * Kerry West - NAIA All American and Belmont Hall of Famer; great shooter and court vision * Clancy Hall - 6'11"; played at Lipscomb during transition from NAIA to NCAA * Kevin Fields - played at Belmont and is a man about basketball; plays in several leagues. Great hustler and savvy ball player. * Stacia Dean - played for Lipscomb's women and went to NAIA tourney. When the HHS teams were going through slumps, each of these coaches laced it up against their respective team and helped them improve. (The three guys added two players and beat the HHS starting five back to back to back.)
  2. Yes, Luna knows, he is tourney director and host. The final finish should be as follows: 1- LaVergne 2 - Wilson Central 3 - Hendersonville 4- Beech 5 - Mt. Juliet 6 - Gallatin 7 - Smyrna 8 - White House
  3. Clint is teaching Special Education at Beech High School on a waiver. He has a degree in Psychology and is pursuing his certification in teaching.
  4. Lassiter was not a QB in college. Yes, in HS he was, but in college he was a flanker.
  5. It is currently lying flat in the high jump pit area behind the end zone. I am not privy to the short or long term plans, but I do know that the appropriate people were there the afternoon of the storm to assess the best means of fixing the situation.
  6. Due to a cancellation, Hendersonville High School has open dates for boys and girls basketball for the 2003-2004 season. Preferred dates are December 15 or 16, 2003, with a possible date later in the season. If interested, please contact Kerry West at (615) 824-6162.
  7. Kudos to the staff of the Gallatin News Examiner and the Hendersonville Star News. The complete sports staff of Cecil Joyce and Craig Harris do a stellar job of covering the ever expanding world of high school sports in Sumner County. Though the duo, and their staff of correspondents, are faced with the impossible task of trying to please everyone in the county, they do an excellent job of trying to balance the coverage. They also work to ensure that their stories are in The Tennessean the morning after a game. I have seen them work right until a 10:00PM deadline (that is right, 10:00PM) to get a story in the Nashville paper. Thank you to the staff of Joyce and Harris. Keep up the good work, guys.
  8. Gallatin does not participate in this waste of money. Having worked there for five years and checking my sources to make sure that it is still not true, I feel comfortable saying that GHS' money is not being wasted. As a matter of fact, studies have shown that bottled water is usually depleted of most minerals when it is "purified". Tap water is full of many minerals, depending on the reservior source and the water plant that supplies the water. For the record, athletes should eat a well rounded diet, avoid caffienated drinks (colas, coffee, and tea), and drink cool water and sports drinks. Sports drinks are recommended leading up to event to supply the essential vitamins and minerals. Water is recommended every fifteen minutes during activity, with sports drink every hour.
  9. Congratulations to both Wilson Central and Coach Dewayne Alexander on his new job. Coach A is a fine man and a good coach. His resume and levels of success at Jackson Co., Upperman, and Gallatin speak volumes of his ability to get the most out of his players. I expect to see much improvement and a sense of stability for the Wildcats. Good luck Coach A and good luck to the Wilson Central football program.
  10. All of the aforementioned athletic trainers are very good at what they do. Each deserves all the accolades that people wish to put on them, and I encourage more of that, with March being National Athletic Training Month (today is the last day, wish them all the best). Over the weekend, Paul Good, Hendersonville High School, received the High School Athletic Trainer of the Year Award for the Southeast Athletic Trainers' Association (includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Lousiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee). Paul is excellent at the job he does, and is well respected in his profession. He, along with a number of athletic trainers mentioned and not mentioned on this thread, are very good at their job and deserve a greater appreciation from their respective communities. Please take time to thank your athletic trainer for the job that they do for you and your school.
  11. The school does exist....just in Alabama. The newspaper (hard copy sent to me) had Hendersonville listed at No. 3. I am not sure how such a mistake could be made, but it is the Tennessean.
  12. The loser will travel to the champion of Region 6-AAA on Saturday night at 7:00.
  13. Coach Tuck is still there, and this is the second year in a row for him to play this style (at least against HHS). Last year, as the #4 team vs. H'ville (#1), the game went to triple OT before H'ville pulled it out. It worked very well last night, with DC shooting a 3 to bring the game to within 2 with under 2 minutes. It is a very effective strategy against H'ville, who also played the same way. HHS held the ball for the first five minutes of the fourth quarter. By held, I mean stood and looked around the gym. This set up an exciting and challenging final three minutes.
  14. Clarksville lost this evening to Gallatin in a close one, 61-59.
  15. Please focus on REGION 5-AAA, not DISTRICT 5-AAA.
  16. 1998 & 1999 White County teams won state championships. They are in Middle Tennessee.
  17. Research has shown that ankle braces do not have an effect on the strength of a person's ankle. (i.e. - they do not make the ankle weaker as thought for so many years.) I believe that this may be the latest trend for coaches, just as high top shoes, short shorts, long socks, etc. Two months from now there may be research that finds that ankle braces cause hip problems, so let's see what is going on then.
  18. Harris Walker went to UTC and did not last more than a week before leaving.
  19. In Coach Allison's defense, which I do not know him at all, but he may be trying to rebuild the bridges that were previously burned. This is not something that can be done overnight. I do not know this to be fact, but I am like you and hope that he heavily recruits the local talent. Good luck to Coach Allison and his rebuilding project at UTC. From what I have heard, he has really shaken things up with the players that are left.
  20. The coaches know, and the players should already know whether or not they are on the team. Their banquet is scheduled for Monday, December 9, at Cherokee Steak House. The press release announcing the recipients should be released that day or the next.

    Best trainers

I am glad that you are so happy with your ATC. As for Dr. Elrod, he is the Titans' Team Orthopedic Surgeon, and a very fine one at that. I am glad that Lipscomb is so well taken care of from a sports medicine standpoint. Good luck to you guys. (Tell Dr. Elrod to keep your QB healthy.) Keep the kudos coming for this hard working group of professionals.

    Best trainers

Paul Good at Hendersonville High School does a great job with a large number of athletes and sports. He is well respected by the administration, coaches, faculty, parents, and student-athletes. Nick Pappas at Gallatin HS has returned to assume the position he had before, and is doing a good job after the sabbatical. This state is filled with good athletic trainers, so please help recognize them on this board. NOTE: March 2003 will be the third celebration of athletic training month. Plan special events for your local trainer to let them know that you appreciate them.
  23. Billy Fellman does an excellent job of officiating games. He works well with any partner, no matter what the quality of that official. He officiates college level competition and has worked at the state tournament. This is not to mention the fact that he is scheduled for more HS games this year than almost any other official. Keep up the the good work Billy!!
