  1. Yes, the front runner right now is obviously last years backup Sr. Chase James he has more experience and probaly fits into a Randall Cobb mold better than the other two (this mold has worked really well for Alcoa the past two seasons). As for Talent, Rankin thinks highly of him and, his physical abilities at quaterback are just as good if not better than James's. I see him more of a passer with controled mobilty, meaning I think he can scramble and run an option well enough to be a threat but is more likely to pitch it than Chase who I see as a potentialy dynamic player in the open field. Last year there were games Randall threw the ball less than ten times not because he was not an outstanding passer but Rankin chose to use his running ability instead. This is what I believe Rankin would do with chase but even more exaggerated because lets face it not one of you thinks Chase can throw as well as Randall. This is why if I had to choose I would pick Austin and move Chase to the other reciever posistion which I believe would give the Tornadoes a much more balanced offense. Back to my point, Logan was left out because of his drop back pocket passer style that I don't think Rankin wants to incorporate in his offense. Also the other two have supperior arm strength and a height advantage leaving Logan as solid backup but not an ideal QB in Rankin's system. I really like Logan but, he'll have more sucess on the hardwood than the gridiron next season.
  2. I got on t the South Carolina boards to find some information about this Bo Whitney fellow and I found some good stuff out. Apparentley he transfered from Union High School (the school listed in the link provided by BCsportsfan) to Laurens High school school within the last month and a half. Whitney's myspace page confirms this move. I did request for one the of the Union High School fans on the S.C. board, to find out if Bo had moved to Tennessee and I also asked what kind of player he is. From a tallent perspective Bo seems to be an outstanding athlete I was told he can throw the 60yd and the video link below seems to show he is a phenominal runner (or that defense is terrible). But when the fellow from union contacted Bo he refused to answer whether or not he was in Tennessee. Whitney has also been injured over the past two seasons and only played in two games last season. Ultimateley it looks to me like if this rumor is true Alcoa is getting a Quaterback who has been at three schools in two months, who won't admit to people who claim to his friends whether or not he is at Alcoa and he can't stay healthy for a season. The following is a link to Whitney's Myspace it contain a pretty impressive video of him scrambling for a touchdown. You are more than likely not interested in the rest. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendid=63362667 From what I've concluded Alcoa fans need to get behind Chase James or Austin Talent until we get more concrete information about Bo Whitney.
  3. way to go you figured out their home town to bad he wanted to know what school they played high school football at
  4. QUOTE(thesmartestpersonalive @ Mar 5 2008 - 05:05 PM) I believe the contract between Alcoa and BTW was three home games for five thousand dollars. The contract is a three year contract with all three games at Alcoa. Now monetarily I might be incorrect but I am almost positive that the figure is not larger than the one I mentioned, but If I am inaccurate I would appreciate you telling what the figures are so that I can become better informed.
  5. I believe the contract between Alcoa and BTW was three home games for five thousand dollars. If Alcoa had an average attendance of 500 people for the three BTW games they would more than cover their expenses. We all know that the attendance has been greater than 500 so Alcoa does make money playing BTW. There is also the new playoff system to consider and one less game takes away a guaranteed win which could bollix Alcoa's seeding. Also Alcoa has been consistenly producing collegiate atheletes and not playing a game would deny them an opportunity to showcase their tallents for college squads. Ultimately playing BTW works out very well for Alcoa, not to mention every team in the eastern time zone is too pusillanimous to play the tornadoes.
  6. yes milan used to be good Alcoa IS good and will continue to be great for the next decade. Alcoa would never use a non region game to play competion that much below their level so unless you luck your way to murfresburo don't get your hopes up.
  7. Many people have pointed out that 2000 and 1989 were the only two teams to beat Maryville but you must take this into consideration Maryvile was not as dominant those years as they have been in more recent years. In 1989 maryville was 5-5 so that point is null, and in 2000 Maryvile lost its first four games including a 28 point loss to heritage it is pretty obvious to me that that was not a typical maryvile team at that point in the season. Yes Meschendorf was a great player and was probaly the overall MVP of the title game until he left late injured but he was no more talented than Kyrus. The secondary in 2000 played no one that could throw in any half way decent maner. I would also like you to answer me what team threw for more than 100 yds on the 2005 first other than Maryville. Mr.Rainer you should know better than anyone that the speed and agility of the 2000 team would run by the 2005 team but they would not throw on them. This is largely because the wing T prevents the use of drop back passing due to the motion and decption involved in offense. Most all pass plays involve a one step drop or the quaterback to boot out to one side of the field effectivley limiting the play to work to only one side of the field. This is how the offense was intended to work since its inception in bay city michigan.
  8. Come on Alcoachamps5 are you serious when you say the secondary on the 2005 team was subpar. Three of the four starters will end up at DI institutions Lanxter@ Kentucky, Sommers @ Kentucky (that is what i've heard anyway), Love @ Tennessee (invited walk on), not to mention Alex Green who was an incredible corner and was largely responsible for all of those Intercptions Brian had because Green always had his man covered so tightly that no QB would even think of throwing his way, forcing the pass to go else where. Now as for who is better, talent along with training and development has advance so much since 1989 that I don't believe that you could say that if you lined up 05 and 89 that 89 would win. But I do believe that the ridiculous speed and athletisism on the 2000 team might be able to confuse the 05 team with Meadows Wing T offense, so in that matchup I would give the nod to the 2000 team. But without a doubt the best, in comparison to the other teams of their day, is the 1989 team they were nationaly ranked after all. So depending on which barometer you choose to judge the teams are those are my answers.
  9. well thats too bad you support such a hapless program that you can't even defend it. A note to all teams in the west give up your hope now, your teams can't play with goodpasture and goodpasture can't fathom being as good as Alcoa. West TN is like the minor leagues, goodpasture has to roll through them to get a chance to play Alcoa in their annual major league beating. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  10. Actually I believe the esteemed Gary Rankin is from the carthage area and well 6 gold balls and 5 silver balls represent a litle bit of football knowledge. Now I agree with the rest of your statements, well except for the fact that Alcoa would destroy lipscomb Alcoa is just so much better, but before you make a blanket statement know what your blanket is lying on.
  11. Milan, and for that matter, no team other than Alcoa has a chance at winning the state title in 2A they are dominant and will continue to be. They will loose a total of 8 senoirs and 5 of them started, the sophmore freshman and eighth grade classes are some of the best football players to come through alcoa, and that is saying a lot. In middle school the freshman beat maryville 50-0 and the middle schools two year record would likely have been 16-0 had Rankin's son not fallen ill within ten minutes of kickoff in the County title game in their second contest against maryville, he was their best defensive player and top lineman not to mention the fact him going to the hospital messed with the players minds right before the game started. The only significant hole the tornadoes have will be at QB. Cobb was a great talent but Alcoa is used to replacing DI talent with more DI talent.
  12. 1.Maryville: George Quarles does not loose and until they are beat they are the best team in the state. 2a.Smyrna: Indepenence looked as if they had little tallent if Smyrna had played a better team I might have allotted them the sole 2 spot but from what I saw a smyrna Alcoa matchup would be a real good game. 2b.Alcoa: blew by every team but Maryville and are great at every aspect of the game. 4.South Pitt: Score Board. 5.Maplewood: Outstanding players they just did not appear to be that great of a team, but playing Maryville can do that. 6.Lipscomb: Very bland lost to Goodpasture who Alcoa steam rolled 7.Fulton. Talented but made too many mistakes 8.Goodpasture: Beating the 3A champs counts for something. 9.Independence: They did not look like a championship caliber team at all I was very dissapointed with them being a represenative in the all mighty 5A classification. 10.Mckennzie: Once again, Score Board.
  13. You'll be saying that for years to come. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> BTY chris leak was less than 6 foot troy smith was right at 6 foot and don't forget flutie but most of the rational thinker forsee randal at wr or db.
  14. You may correct I believe I heard from a quality source that lipscomb was more closely been associated with bringing in families from out of state ensuring they have a house and jobs so the dormatory housing is probaly incorrect but I have heard of DI privates providing residence for out of state players. Personaly I think it would be a disservice to the privates to put them all together because they are sepperated by who and who does not give athletic scholarships. Some teams put more emphasis on academia and could not afford to buy the best players I would say the best 2A team Alcoa played this year CAK would fall into this group.
  15. You didn't say it I did and its true of many of those Nashville schools do.
  16. I count 2 periods not to metion I did not finish with a period and my opening statement has no punctuation. That looks like four sentences and two punctuation errors to me. So yes the person who is incapable of counting lacks intelect. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  17. from FBGIRL I would guess most privates also have limitations on the number of students they can accept (class size and teacher ratio) and your statement regarding privates drawing out of state students may only apply to privates that border other states. And practically any school (public or private) could have boosters that could employ the parent of any potential students in any area. I would guess most privates also have limitations on the number of students they can accept (class size and teacher ratio) yes but Good pasture may be able to take 100 students per class and Alcoa can take maybe thirty not really the same thing. and your statement regarding privates drawing out of state students may only apply to privates that border other states that applies to most privates I belive lipscomb has housing on campus where many students from out of state live. And practically any school (public or private) could have boosters that could employ the parent of any potential students in any area. you are correct but it happens much more often among the privates.
  18. you lack more intellect than I originaly thought Hmmm what could west have do with this well you claim to be a Mo west fan and you are claiming Alcoa is not what they say they are while at the same time saying they are what they say they are. You being a represenative of Mo west is what west has to do with this. does your brain not function
  19. I understood quite fine. What I was pointing out is how incredibly poorly you expressed your point. you said that is a lie then the next sentence you say that the same thing is the truth. Did you expect someone not to to point out how dimwitted that was. Your point was noted but try to post in a logical manner so I dont have to rebuke you amazing lack of intelect
  20. and to say you are the first to win state 4 times in a row is fallacious. Yes, you are the first to win it 4 times ????????????? really now that is some intellectually stimulating banter.
  21. Alcoa was still the first to do it regarless, they have accomplished something no one has done before and yes Maryville will win tommorow but they will still be the second and in 08 Alcoa will be the first to win 5 in a row.
  22. You said that anyone can pay to go to Alcoa but that is simply not the truth. Alcoa must accept every student that lives in the city and then can take tuition students at their discretion until they reach the capacity the school can hold. This year for example the high school freshman class added one tuition student (who happens to be on the football team). Privates are multiplied because they can choose every student who attends the school, many have the clout to get jobs in the area for players parents and draw in students from outside the state. But at Alcoa the Tuition student is an integral part of the education more so than the athletics. Go into any honors class at the high school and ?? to 1/3 of the class pays tuition but on the football field maybe 1/10 are a tuition student. So this is really not the advantage it is perceived to be. In viewing the game the only player I noticed who paid tuition and had a significant contribution in the game was Coulter and he has gone to Alcoa forever. Alcoa gets more of an advantage from players moving into their zone than paying to be a part of it.
  23. There is no "may" about it Alcoa Holds this Awesome record alone for the next 19 hours. but hey we beat Maryville at something. Congrats Alcoa /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  24. I'm sure Cobb was offensive MVP but who was the defensive MVP?
