  1. Very true.. Cant turn the ball over 5 times and win. And thanks for jumping in. I'll be sure to chime in on the wilco thread when the "cupcake" quad teams are eliminated.
  2. The score does not tell the story...Blackman beat Blackman tonight. Four or five turnovers that all led to scores. Congrats to Siegel hope you are still healthy if you make it past Riverdale next week.
  3. Sorry crawdad...my football player sons wrestle...and wrestlers practice harder than any other sport. As for the topic at hand. Too many weak teams are in the playoffs...period. If your team is not that great, you dont get an extra week. That is the way it should be. Dont drag out the season for another week. This is America and despite what many people try to believe, everyone can't be a winner. JMHO
  4. Blackman will be at the Tullahoma pre-season on Nov 10. Sommers, the date which changed was Dec 8. Blackman will be at the Cleveland Duals that day.
  5. Blackman High Early Bird - November 3 - 7am
  6. Signal should use some of that $3 per car parking money to pay for those new facilities! Beautiful campus there at Signal - Great home crowd - Band and student section fired up (Im pretty sure I saw the bleachers on the home side flexing under the energy of their students and band) - QB throwing lasers (he is top notch by the way)
  7. Everyone. I spoke to Coach Bray this morning and he is in Mississippi burying his Dad today. As you may know, the family has asked for donations in lieu of flowers as Coach Bray's dad did not have any type of insurance. I dealt with my dad passing away a few years ago and it can be very expensive. I would like to help and I have donated some funds to help the Bray family as I am sure this expense will fall on Ronnie and his immediate family. If you would like to contribute something, you can do so in a couple of ways. 1) You can donate via credit/debit card or through PayPal on the Blackman Wrestling website fundraising page. www(dot)blackmanwrestling(dot)com(slash)fundraising(dot)html After donations are made, the Booster Club will write a check for the full amount collected. 2) You can contact the funeral home directly to set up a donation- Magnolia Funeral Home 2024 Hwy 72 East Annex Corinth, MS. 38834 662-286-9500 E-mail: magnoliafuneral@bellsouth.net Thanks so much. Matt Sells President - Blackman Wrestling Booster Club (is it ok to post the real link?)
  8. Things that need work. The venue......WAY too small. The seating up top was unbearable due to the heat. Closer to the floor, you could not spectate due to the numbers of people standing and walking by. To their credit, they kept asking people and wrestlers to go in to the stands but there simply wasn't enough room for them. Timing...I agree with the OP...there were several kids who didn't wrestle their first match until 630 or 700. Middle and Juniors started at least two hours late. Concessions....Did they not expect 2700 people at least. (900 wrestlers plus 2 parents each). Half the time...no pizza, no buns, no soda..and they closed way early. I know people who had to leave and go down the road to get snacks. Medal presentation....I think if you are going to place 1-6, you should have a larger podium so that each kid can be properly recognized. Not a bid deal, but I hate seeing those guys standing on the floor. My suggestion. Move this event somewhere large enough to accommodate the crowd. On the plus side, I did think the wrestling went quick after we got going. I do think it would be nice to time things better so you can have the finals matches at one time. Wouldn't it be nice to be a spectator and have the opportunity to see the finals of each weight class? Most people had no idea when there was a finals match unless it involved their kid. Just my opinion.
  9. I have no problem with kids from other states competing. I am sure that lots of Tennessee kids, including my own, have travelled to out of state tournaments. The issue I have with this is the fact that most of these out of state kids that I saw before the wrestler lists were removed from track wrestling were not members of Tennessee clubs. As the coach from Cleveland alluded to, I think if a kid from Ringold travels to Cleveland every day for practice, wears the HCWC singlet, wrestles in all the tournaments that the coach signs up for, and the efforts of he and his family contribute to the benefit of the club, then by all means, the border is meaningless. That example grows wrestling in the state of TN. But, from what I understand, that is not the case with the wrestlers that we are mainly talking about. If AAU wants to put on a multi-state tournament, it should not be called the TN State Tournament. It should be called Southeast Regional Tournament or something. As for growing wrestling in Tennessee, allowing kids from other states to compete in the TN state tournament is not the answer. Explain how that helps when it is outside of the example I cited above.
  10. So am I interpreting this correctly? Some Kentucky kids who already competed in their own state tournament have been told that they cannot compete in the TN State Tournament. AND If the above is true, then that would imply that those kids from KY already competed in our region tournament and took spots to state away from kids who live and wrestle in TN. Wow. I understand that if you live across the border but these teams are miles away. One GA team is 40 miles from the state line. It is not like those kids are members of HCWC and their moms and dads are driving them 40 miles one way to practice every day. No offense to any of you GA guys by the way. Why is this a good idea again? The tournament flyer from Kentucky says clearly..... "2. Must wrestle in one of the 2011 KYSWA Regional Tournaments and be a permanent KY Resident." So how is that fair?
  11. I also noticed this. My first impression is that it cheapens the meaning of winning the "TNAAU 2012 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS" So if a kid from Georgia wins, he is the TN State Champ? Why was this allowed? I also noticed kids from Kentucky competing in the North region tournament.
  12. I watched the match live and couldn't believe the call and I just watched it again and feel the same. Seems to me that the ref got frustrated with the stalemates and made the call to make a point and force a different action. I'm not an expert and Lond knows, I don't want to wear those stripes, but this one has a huge question mark. I know judgement calls are a part of the sport and if wrestlers and coaches want to avoid the question marks, they shouldn't be in a position for one call to determine the outcome of the match. However, I do think the match should be called consistently from start to finish. Also, could someone help me clarify the rule on what is out of bounds? I noticed that many times, the wrestlers were heading toward the edge of the mat and the whistle was blown before both were actually out of the circle. On one occasion, it looked to me like wrestler A was fleeing towards the coach chairs and wrestler B was on the legs trying to keep his feet in bounds, but the action was stopped before both were actually out. Same thing a couple of times as the wrestlers were heading out of bounds towards the floor. Should there be more room outside the circle to avoid potentially dangerous situations? Eg....running into the coaches chairs?
  13. So...tournament is starting...no brackets yet?
  14. Are the results posted anywhere yet?
  15. Thanks. Any full results posted anywhere? Or brackets?
  16. The 152 from Scottsboro.......was that McClure?
  17. Good tournament and nice folks down there at Bradley. Sure was nice of them to spend all that money on those wonderful medals.....
  18. Thanks so much to the folks at Houston for putting on a great tournament. Everything was very well run and the BBQ sandwiches were great! Special thanks to the King family for extending their hospitality to us! It is worth noting that the 220 finals match ended by injury default. Blackman's wrestler was winning the match when the match was stopped. I too was very impressed by Oliver at 106. I saw his brother for the first time at state last year at 125 and he was a beast as well!
  19. Not enough wrestling talk on CoachT What teams will be there this year? Anyone know? NOTHING on the internet about the tournament that I can find.
  20. Tell me on the below schedule, which of these teams beats Riverdale, Blackman, Smyrna? Webb (Knoxville, TN) @ Alcoa (Alcoa, TN) West (Knoxville, TN) * @ Heritage (Maryville, TN) * Oak Ridge (Oak Ridge, TN) Bearden (Knoxville, TN) * @ Knoxville Catholic (Knoxville, TN) * @ Farragut (Knoxville, TN) * William Blount (Maryville, TN) * @ Lenoir City (Lenoir City, TN) *
  21. Not to take away from his accomplishments but for those who have seen him in action, could Mobley accomplish the same numbers in district 7-AAA?
