  1. Does anyone find it odd that Casey Clausen did not make the preseason SEC team? Is he even a heisman candidate? I know hes a good qb, but Grossman is better, but is Manning better? Manning's team didn't even go to a bowl last year and they lost to a horrible Mississippi State team to finish 7-4... ESPN has rated Byron Leftwich from Marshall as the top player in the nation. I believe David Ragone from Louisville might be the next in terms of qbs. Grossman, Manning, and then Dorsey followed I believe.
  2. Coach, I know a few teachers who buy tickets for the Titans games right there at the game for a pretty reasonable price. If I was just a regular fan, I would pick that Steelers/ Titans game...two good football teams, loads of emotion, at 12 o clock in Novemeber won't be too bad, and a guaranteed sell out.
  3. For a dollar a month? thats almost 3 cents a day...everyone should get it.
  4. I think random sampling is a good idea. I know CBHS, Briarcrest, St. Marys, and I believe Harding (soon) will do random drug testing. If it keeps kids from doing it, thats a good thing. Now if you think that those detectors pick up all kinds of drugs you are mistaken, I know kids that do drugs and dont even worry about those testers...but it's still a lot better then nothing.
  5. I'm not going to argue about this anymore. I'm not arguing about Title IX, but rather putting numbers on it. If you guys refuse to believe my information, thats fine...but I don't feel like arguing about it. I wrote my senior research paper on Title IX and have written a few letters to the editor about Title IX. I am against male sports that do not produce and take away from others as well...Let us please not argue about this. There aren't to many facts about Title IX and the things that are wrong with it because who wants to write about that? It takes some guts to write what I wrote about, knowing that just about all girls aren't going to like it, many males that participate in sports that do not gain money (such as gymnastics). If you don't believe my sources thats fine...But taking away male scholarships that do produce revenue in order to reach status quotas for women does not seem right. I used that same information as well as information from other books for my research paper. Another classmate also did his on Title IX, neither one of us were accused of copying or cheating, and both of us received an A (133/135). Once again, let me stress I wrote this because it deals with quotas, whether you support or are against Title IX does not matter as much because you can still see that gender equity is based more on numbers rather then what is right or wrong. -By the way I said in the beginning I was in favor of Title IX in regards to the education amendments, so some of what you said doesn't pertain to this discussion. -As far as donations go, The University of Memphis got around 4 million in donations last year I believe...That is for ATHLETICS ONLY...they probably receive more for academics through gifts or donations...
  6. YOUKNOWRED, Why do you call people white trash? The thread is called Who can beat Germantown? So when people say a Brentwood Academy, they are simply saying that they could beat Germantown... Houston COULD beat germantown...They humiliated Germantown last year...It was so funny listening to 93X and 94.1 the Buzz and having the Houston kids call in to the radio station and talk trash to yall. I think yall will beat Houston, but talking trash doesn't help...I take it you don't play for Germantown, because I have never seen a current player on a basketball or football board talk so much trash or seem so confident as you. I will say you are a very confident individual, but calling people white trash and cursing on here just makes you look like ridiculous man. Lighten up and wait for the season...The odds are that some of the Germantown kids will be hurt, and some of the Houston kids will be hurt, Abe might be hurt, or walter andrews, or jake dear, or mayfield or anyone else...but that just remains to be seen, I like your posts cus they are very informative, but please keep the name calling at bay, especially when Houston beat yall 3 times last year! P.S. Have you ever seen Nick Metcalf? He's going to be a great linebacker/full back for Germantown pretty soon. P.S.S. I didn't know teams were supposed to quit or give up when the other team scored, I guess Germantown quit after Houston scored that one TD...I was always taught to play till the end of the game...coincidently our defense was third in Shelby County last year and the number one rushing defense in Shelby County. 7. Can't run a town, state, country, or government based on morals, must have rules...totally agree ELA.
  8. Your right, I'll try and stick to the situation for once, NO I wouldn't play for him, nor would my son play for him...but I would be very honored that he recognized me for my talents.
  9. Yes coach, I was trying to imply that its not a problem here, but if there is talk about changing the current system...wouldnt you think they would talk about it in Memphis? Do they talk about this issue in other cities?
  10. So you are telling me that Steve Alford and Mike Davis are glad Knight doesn't call and congratulate them? Knight doesn't shake Alford's hand? I'm not saying it isn't tough to congratulate them, but you can still do it...Look at George O'Leary, left a good job at G. Tech, went to Notre Dame, Got asked to leave...now he is working under his former high school player, thats right HIGH SCHOOL PLAYER...Mike Tice...That seems a lot harder to do then to shake a mans hand, who you helped raise and are generally regarded as a better coach then him. As far as the basketball thing, I don't wish the program, coaches, or kids ill will. I am mad that they cheat and allow a 16 year old to play 14s...the kids teammate even admitted it right on this board! I don't get on here and say my former AAU team, or my brothers former AAU team beat the teams in question, although I could, I also don't get on here and say that the team isn't very good, or stinks, or doesn't deserve to go to the nationals. Just admit that Knight is in the wrong about Davis and Alford...I don't think he talks to Coach K at Duke, but I'm not 100% on that...I admit Knight is a good coach, but he seems to be a jerk in person, and doesn't conduct himself in a manner that is consistent with someone who is old enough to be my grandfather. Wouldn't you have a problem with someone who helped raise you, like a coach or teacher who refuses to give you congratulations or credit for something you earned? Would you feel sad if a son or daughter of yours made a basketball or baseball team but didn't thank you for teaching them? I'm sorry but I don't think its asking too much for a nice word of praise or congratulations sometimes.
  11. I am sure the Maryville fans are very rowdy and boisterous...its one thing to be mocked...quite another to be threatened...I already talked about how in the 70's they didn't even let fans into high school basketball games in Memphis...Games were played at 330 in the afternoon with empty gyms...there had been fights, stabbings, cursing, and deaths... I remember in the 80's at one of the older high schools in the city a kid was basically decapitated in the hallway. You go down to schools right now in the city of Memphis, beat them in basektball, and you are going to be threatened, even after the game is over. I have heard about a team that won a game, went to the locker room cus there was going to be a riot and waited there. The referee knocked on the door, without about 100 people behind him and said they had to come back because their was a techinical on the winning team for celebrating...Thats a true story, but its sad, and won't ever be stopped.
  12. I have problems with basically this entire city...education, finances, politicals, athletics, media wise...its poor, its crime ridden, it watches other cities get bigger, and it has numerous other problems that I will not dwell into but will probably talk about accidently in the coming months I sure hope Knoxville is better then this. This has never been a concern in the city of Memphis...EVER I have never seen an article about TSSAA Changes, Never a public private debate in the Commercial Appeal...I once tried to explain this to some very PROMINENT basketball coaches that have a lot of power...they didn't understand it, and their answer was simply "Why do privates even want to play publics?" Do people in the rest of the state know about this problem? Cus I didnt until I became a member of this board. [Edited by TheEgoHasLanded on 8/2/02 3:36P]
  13. Still can't get over that 46-0 trouncing at the hands of Trousdale back in the 96 title game? No one ever comments on that one. I was pretty shocked that they quit.
  14. He's one of the biggest individuals in AAU...and we have discussed this before...AAU state is not always held in Memphis, the 15's weren't and YOMCA won it...no one could respond to that, in fact if anything the Rebels should cry foul because of bad calls at state, and did the second best team out of any of the TN teams (even with a seed of 100 out of 128)... Dodd also holds the AAU Nationals in Memphis the 9U and 13U that gives more money to the community (roughly 2 to 3 million a year) and thats great. Hey guess what...Dodd also awards the 15U to Clarksville...its horrible in Clarksville! Absolutely nothing to do! I guess he is friends with Dave Loos over at APSU or something, no one thanks him for that, they just see the injustices he causes... The Travelers dont play AAU, and thats the only team that can consistently compete with YOMCA, I'm not a YOMCA fan, I didn't play for them, my brother doesn't play for them, and none of my friends played for them, but they are better then any AAU team in TN...PERIOD. If other TN teams played in Memphis, and then finished ahead of YOMCA in AAU, you would have an argument, but many teams dont play here, nor do they finish ahead of YOMCA...I think Gomab will step in and agree with me on the last statement. Remember who has won the last few AA and AAA state titles, the best players are from Memphis, the best teams are from Memphis, and the best aau teams are from memphis...but yall probably have better coaching and possibly better facilities.
  15. Yeah he sure did make Steve Alford a better man...he was a golden by in 1987, the poster child. Now Knight refuses to talk to Alford...doesn't talk to Mike Davis at Indiana...can you justify this please?
  16. The title of the thread is who can beat germantown...when some of us try and answer it, you get mad. Either change the thread to...WHO WILL BEAT GERMANTOWN...or stop complaining when people give their opinion.
  17. Still think White Station wins the title again...anyone else got any different ideas? I don't want to hear none of these guesses from left field...if your team hasn't even gotten out of the region dont even say nothin, let's have some accurate predictions like Science Hill or some team like that.
  18. Tubby has been under the gun for quite some time man. Remember the issue about his son? You ain't stayin at UT for a while if you are going 8-3 or 9-2 maryville...9-2 means you lost to Florida and another team that is inferior to you...like a Georgia, or Arkansas... But I do agree with you about the 50 yards rushing thing, thats exactly true...I picked west to win that game before it happened for some odd reason...when they played again there was no question who was going to win. "If you think your team is unbeatable, even if they are not, then you are a true fan." I'm a big Memphis fan, heck my dad played at Memphis...But I don't think they will go undefeated, does that mean I'm not a TRUE fan. I'm a big Dallas Cowboys fan, but I highly doubt they go undefeated, or even any other team for that matter in the NFL. The last time a team went undefeated was in the 70's with Marino! I have kicked guys out of my house for bashing my cowboys, and thats as big of a fan as you can get! My mom hasn't talked to a guy in over 23 years because he was a Bears fan and started braggin about how they won! [Edited by TheEgoHasLanded on 8-2-02 8:52A]
  19. Indian, your knowledge is vastly superior to mine...and while there is an injustice in not promoting TN players...we must continue to do our part by hyping them up...and rooting for them. John Vaughn for BA is one of the best field goal kickers in the state...he should be up there, I doubt UT takes him but him and Bliss are putting up NFL numbers...and they still have at least 10 games left. Adams did have terrible grades...no one thought he was going to make it, and at the last second he passed his ACT and the only school that was still recruiting him at the time was Arkansas State, Ole Miss and teams like that had left them. Indian...I still have to question who else in the state deserves to be in the top 200...I mean lets face it, you got to be a pretty dang good player to be in the top 200 of the south (I consider the south better then any other region in the country). [Edited by TheEgoHasLanded on 8/2/02 1:12A]
  20. I agree with TJ, and I think he was saying as long as a Kid didn't just stand there and shoot it. I mean you have to be able to have screens set for u or move without the ball. How good was Derrick Byars if he wasn't 6'7? Let's say he was 6'1 or so...his 3 point percentage wouldn't have been nearly as good...He could stand there even if you were guarding him and shoot it right over you...You must be able to do more then shoot, like creating ur own shot of the dribble or spotting up...but I think TJ was also implying that as well. I don't think its a lost art, I just don't think its as coveted as much. The networks dont show guys that stand there and shoot threes...they show guys that love to dunk it in your face, I remember when Indiana hit like 15 of 18 threes or something in the NCAA tournament...it was just amazing.
  21. Not in quality? Dearrius Howard was the best runningback in the country last year...Little Rock Fair, Little Rock Central, Barton, Shiloh Christian, Cabot, Osceoloa, etc...there are some dang good teams there. Kody Bliss is a senior. Remember Jonathan Adams? Also the best runningback in the country from Osceola, signed with Arkansas state but could have gone anywhere...there is some talent in Arkansas, it just doesn't always bleed back to Arkansas. I also said possibly...not definitely... [Edited by TheEgoHasLanded on 8/2/02 12:23A]
  22. Ole Miss can beat just about anyone at home...on the road they have a lot of trouble...they would have lost to Memphis if that was at a neutral site or at Memphis...Kentucky destroyed Ole Miss and many teams would if you get them away from the Tad Pad...Ole Miss also got embarrassed in the first round of the SEC tournament, and were also embarrassed pretty badly for a 8-9 game against a good UCLA team.
  23. Funny thing is...the public and city schools in Memphis have no idea about this debate, and could care less...and people are wanting to change the entire state because of basically Class A and Class 2A.
