  1. Rico can not score like either of the two guards...if your mentality is pass first shoot second then Rico might get it...cus he can not score like the others...Stafford is a point guard, and that is what he plays in AAU and in high school...stafford never wants to shoot, he loves passing...he is a great individual, and coaches have to get on to him and tell him to take over the game and start shooting, he is the best point guard, and I have seen Rico, JP is the best player in the city, and stafford is the best point guard...Rico is smaller and can not jump as high as Josh...I have seen Stafford dunk it. His dad is Ron Huery...if he got too much of a scorers mentality, well I guess we know where he got that from.
  2. I've made more posts then anyone on this board besides about 3 other people, and I have a life, so I'm sure WesVols does as well... I think WesVols does a great job, and that guy should be banned from this site, this thread should be locked, Wesvols does a very good job, and when he is incorrect on data, he quickly admits it...he gives credit to all teams that BA beats or loses too... good job WesVols
  3. You read my posts enough, and you will figure out where I graduated from... Towns is three years older then Cox... Cox has been timed at a 4.41 and already is 6'2 almost 195 or so and hes in the 10th grade, Todd is a better defensive player and could play any where on defense, DE, LB, MLB, S, DB anything... Towns is a better offensive player, but I think Cox might be a better all around player... Cox led the Shelby Metro area in kickoff return average at like 42.6 and Towns was right behind him at 41 yards... Both are great players, and it really doesn't matter...Towns probably deserves the award since he is a senior...
  4. Mosby walked on at UT...he was an invited Walk-on and participated with the entering freshman, I believe he is injured now and can't practice... Sorry to hear about your injury...pain heals though, at least you got a ring!
  5. If anyone saw the punt return or the field goal run by Towns then they would know...I played against Towns, I played against Hickerson, I played against Cottam...Towns is the most dangerous...He is a guy, that can make a move and then just be gone...I don't know how fast he is or anything like...I think him or Todd Cox for Harding are the two best...Cox is only a 10th grader and has like 31 touchdowns already and has been starting since the 8th grade...Towns also laid out two guys in that Webb game, once on a quarterback bootleg...and these guys were linebackers! Berry was very impressive in the game, but Towns stole the show...he had three TD's and Berry had 2...plus Towns team won, and that is the most important thing isn't it? Towns can be described as "Resilient" I have seen him take some very big hits, and he has always gotten up, I don't know how...but he does...he is their best receiver, runner, returner, and cover guy...I don't know about the best in D2...Holbert, Townsend, Mustin all for BA are very good...and there are a few other good players, but Robert Towns is a great player, and BCS is a good team, good luck to all the d2-aa teams now that region play is about to start.
  6. They were cheering that Couch was hurt... and I'm sorry that you might not believe that, but Couch had something very interesting to say about the fans...and I can't say it, but that is how he took it, that is how I took it, that is how the ESPN commentators and Sportscenter crew took it. I feel bad that Holcomb got hurt, it is a hairline facture and he will be sidelined at least 2 weeks... A concussion is sometimes classified as a bruise to the brain, and for people to cheer about something like that is disrespectful, no one would cheer if a high school player got hurt (ESPECIALLY IF IT WAS YOUR OWN SCHOOL AND HE GOT HIT IN THE HEAD!) the beer bottling throwing incident, and this are very immature for the cleveland browns fans (who are loyal, but even the coach is saying the Dawgpound doesn't have any bark anymore!)
  7. When they finish better then third in their own region...then maybe we will give them credit... Why does it matter if Catholic gets credit or not? If they win then people will respect them, but they lost to Harding, like I predicted last summer, they have gotten a lot better and they are a decent team, but I still don't see them beating BGA and even if they did beat Webb in the regular season...they would have to play them again in the playoffs correct? Where is the regular season game between those two played at this year?
  8. ECS is a huge game...and if you lose it then it won't matter about Briarcrest...remember in case there is a region tie, best overall record comes in to play...with BCS still having to play CBHS one could assume that they might fall to them and possibly either ECS or Harding... Harding beats ECS, ECS beats BCS, BCS beats Harding...in the case of that, then Harding should win, because they would only have 2 losses total... The total score over the last 6 meetings in the ECS Harding series prior to last year was... ECS 148 Harding 23 If you don't think that is going to be a big game, then you are sorely mistaken...Harding should win it, but by the same token, Harding should have beaten Catholic by more then 5...if ANY of the Harding players are thinking ECS will be a cakewalk, they are mistaken...I have seen the majority of the D2-AA teams, and Harding is very good, definitely top 4...but this year is one of the closer years in the brief history of D2-AA... The Brentwood Academy and MUS games are not nearly as big as the ECS game...BA and MUS are just d2-aaa opponents, they are not region games, and we will not see them in the playoffs...ECS is a big game, and I know you didn't say it wasn't but Harding needs to play a very solid game if they want to get a win... ECS has one of the best coaches in Shelby County, and usually have over 65 guys on the team...their tight end is one of the most highly recruited players in D2-AA history, they have a returning Qb who is only a junior, and their young runningbacks have caused fits for opposing defenses, with Hall Simmons being named player of the week in Shelby County, this team is not a Cakewalk...and many people here in Knoxville feel that ECS and BGA will meet for the title...
  9. Steve McNair puts up pretty good numbers...but you have no receivers at all, and Eddie George is the kind of back that needs 17-22 carries to be completely effective and by the time he is at his 9th they are already down by 10 or 14 and have to start passing, but with their best receiver out...it is just hard to be very effective, Dyson is really struggling as well and I don't understand why.
  10. well they will be the underdogs against Georgia and Miami... Kentucky and AT South Carolina are certainly not gimmies... At Mississippi State is not going to be a pleasant experience...Joe Lee Dunn always brings surprises...ask florida from two years ago... Look at what happened to UF today against Ole Miss...
  11. I still don't like Clausen, still tries to do too much...he was getting booed a lot... It was a great game...perhaps yall saw me on tv, I had 50 yard line, row 1 tickets...I was wearing orange if that helps.
  12. Webb Briarcrest was filled with lots of turnovers... BCS had a punt return, fumble recovery in the endzone, and fake field goal run by robert towns all resulting in TDs. Webb has some great offensive weapons in 5, 31, 4...at times they were unstoppable... Inman is horrible...he is not even their best defensive lineman...he never plays offense, and in all honesty never makes plays on defense, it was a very big shock. Briarcrests D can really hit ya...they knocked Berry and the QB out of the game for a few plays...very interesting, cus I would say the average weight for them (minus a few lineman) is probably 160. Towns and Cole Combined for 5 touchdowns...Towns is the real key, he made a few key third down and long catches...don't think he ever fumbled it... Berry might have been the best player on the field...he had some spectacular plays... A good game that saw almost 70 points scored in it, defenses need help though.
  13. softballer... private colleges give scholarships to athletes...private schools either don't give scholarships, or they give financial aide...thats the difference right there, private schools are some what limited on who they can get, as opposed to private colleges, who can technically can get anyone who is willing to work and is eligible. I would not compare a private college to a private school...they are very different.
  14. It is very difficult for private colleges to do well in sports, mostly because of budgets... Duke Vanderbilt Northwestern and a few others have outstanding academics and it is hard to get 70-80 kids/athletes/scholars on a team that can play together...
  15. Some D2 teams can compete...Harding has been ranked in the Shelby County top 12 a few times over the last three years, we don't even have to address what father ryan has done, or BA when they had Harrison...The star players arent in d2...but on the average d1 beats d2...
  16. Harding did play bad against Catholic last year...had a roughing the punter penalty on the first series last year that helped Catholic score... Harding 27 Catholic 14
  17. Us Memphians have no idea about these schools...we should have a seperate division...as I said earlier, I thought the school Huntington was either the high school from Can't Hardly Wait...or a school from West Virginia. As far as recruiting...two very good basketball players from Memphis just transfered from a private school to a city school...yet no one says a word about it on this board. If it was reversed and like in another part of the state, people would be going crazy...but no one says anything here...ya'll just need to put things in perspective...basketball is more important in the city of memphis, then football is at the small rural public schools (on the whole)...ELA has said how his kids don't always show up in the offseason and practice...which proves that it is not too high on the priority list for the offseason...basketball is king here, and the trophies prove it. I am not going to say who does or doesn't recruit, but I have first hand knowledge of schools that do and don't...I'm not going to say it, those of you who know who I am, might know of my brother who transfered schools...he was never recruited, but will probably start this year as a 10th grader...but people think that unless there is a change of address, then a kid was just recruited. RyanRowdy, do you konw of any schools that recruit? If I had an alternate name on here, I might list them, but I don't see how it would solve anything, these people refuse to compromise, so I have just about given up. State Champs... Byrne over FACS Harding or BCS over BGA (I really think that will happen btw) BA over McCallie 1a Ezell over Cloudland 2a Lipscomb over Goodpasture 3a Trousdale Co over ? 4a Maryville over Hillsboro 5a Germantown over Houston or Riverdale Hopefully more accurate then my big ones picks.
  18. IrishBum... I thought your posts were insightful, very good job. Harding has always played a less then stellar out of conference schedule, there are a number of reasons for that. 1-gain confidence. 2-get a win (hey a win is nice!) 3-if there is a 3-way tie for region championship...best overall record is the tie breaker (could easily happen with ECS, BCS, and Harding) 4-let some of the underclassmen play 5-avoid injuries... I have seen BCS and Harding play...and BCS is very dangerous..but this is the weakest BCS team I have seen in 4 years...and the best Harding team I have seen in 4 years...does that mean Harding will completely and utterly destroy briarcrest? No, not at all...Briarcrest is still very dangerous...they have the best overall player in the division, and probably the best returning lineman in the division as well. They have a great offensive minded coach and great facilities...I think Harding has a bunch of hard working kids, that are very good this year, I am very impressed with them...I am not that impressed with ECS right now, but their offense has really turned it around this year...we will just have to see what happens after this week...I think Catholic is good as well, but they are still behind webb...webb has baker, inman, and berry...a great trio.
  19. I remember when they signed him...everyone thought this would be one of the best defenses ever. The Washington Redskins this year were supposed to have a great defense with Trotter, Armstead, and Arrington at lbs and all pro champ bailey at corner...instead they haven't produced...
  20. What do you guys think of people like Caron Butler? Who went to jail, paid his debt to society, and seems to be doing ok now? Should teams pass on them because of how they were as young adults?
  21. Derrick Mason now has a seperated shoulder and will be out indefinitely...Kevin Dyson is not nearly the receiver he used to be and that also hurts them... Offensively I think they havent made the best offseason acquisitions and even on defense I don't think they are that great... Randall Godfrey and even Kevin Carter have not played as well as they did at their previous teams, either they were overrated, couldn't adjust to the Titans, injured, or just are not a good fit for this team.
  22. Don't you think Ezell should get more respect? They are the state champions and undefeated, yet they aren't ranked number one in the state? Isn't that a fair question? I don't see to many other private school backers get on here about that...I have never seen a USJ fan on here...and I can't really recall to many CPA, FA, JCS, or Boyd fans right off hand.
  23. That is a really excellent post conway...good point about playing up.
  24. Doesn't ECS play BGA this week? ECS beat them last year 14-3 coach, they just play them well... BCS travels to Knoxville Webb...both teams split last year, and they were all high scoring like 37-27, then like 41-18 or something like that...I will look at the Memphis games more closely. MUS plays MBA this week...thats one team who beat Bartlett 33-0 last year, MBA came on and beat a good CBHS team. Cordova and Germantown play this weekend I believe...might want to make sure of that, but thats a game that is always for the battle of Germantown... [Edited by TheEgoHasLanded on 9-29-02 9:04A]
  25. I don't really like either of these teams...they are still playing behind USJ, and it seems as though neither can beat them...If you can somehow stop Colin Bodiford...who has over 10 touchdowns...thats a good start.
