  1. Wow, I didn't think McKinley/Massillon would make it out of their region, but both lost in round 1 tonight. McKinley, the #1 seed in their region got beat by #8 seed Medina at Fawcett Stadium 31-28. Ohio DivI playoffs are brutal!
  2. Many good points Hornsby. Neither the former or current formats are fair or provide for a competitive playoffs, or regular season for that matter. I agree there is no incentive to play a quality opponent as all wins are equal. Strength of schedule should matter and every game should count. Once again, twenty teams in this years' playoffs have a losing record(are you kidding me?). The playoffs are a joke and both T$$AA and the schools are asleep at the wheel, while TN h.s. football as a whole in 2010 is rated 25th best in the nation by Rivals, rated 13th in '09. If TN really wants more competitive football, scrap the current format entirely, then look at some form of this format: Ohio format. Teams will have to play a better schedule or risk getting left out without enough quality wins. Cut districts in half, made up of a single classification. Top four seeds host round 1, then EVERYBODY travels to a neutral field centrally located between the two teams, easing travel and leveling the playing field. I know up front some on here will roll their eyes, and think here he goes again with the Ohio crap, but so be it....this isn't about crowing. It's about the the potential to increase competitiveness both regular season and playoffs. Too many good teams are sitting at home while 20 who have no buisness being in the playoffs go play. THIS FORMAT WORKS BEAUTIFULLY. Only FOUR teams in the last ten years have gotten in with a losing record. All 192 teams have EARNED their spot and make for the most competitive playoffs in the nation most years. Not even debateable. Ohio Brings It This link has nothing to do with rankings, as they are hot air to me. Nice to be recognized, but noone can rank the top 100 out of over 14,000 varsity teams. It is about the fact that you will have to bring it every week to make it out of your region alive. That is what makes playoff time special to me, not the same teams most years blowing out the competition on their way to another title game appearance.
  3. You're welcome greenwave. I was not impressed by the 10 or 15 personal fouls/unsportsmanlike penalties by both teams. Some as a result of players running their mouths at the referees. Not only shows lack of discipline, but poor coaching. I don't look for either team to get out of the region. On an unrelated sidenote, a DivIII team(Steubenville) made the playoffs at 8-2, but didn't have a single win against an Ohio team. I would bet it's the 1st time ever for this to happen in any state. Steubenville
  4. Thought this might be of interest to some of the the Green Wave fans. Canton Mckinley is playing their rival Massillon in what is considered by many as the most storied high school rivalry in the nation, around 20,000 on hand for this one. Game is live now here....will also be available archived. Massillon vs Mckinley
  5. 100m times and 40 times are two totally different animals. All world class 100m runners are slower after 40yds. The best are the ones who can hold their 40yd pace the longest. A fair amount of track/football dual sport athletes don't carry quite the same speed over to the gridiron. So 100m times really don't "convert" directly into football 40 times. RB Brandon Saine at OSU owns the high school 100m record at 10.38, and has ran a personal best 10.3, yet only runs a laser mid 4.4 in the 40. In comparison, Terrel Pryor has been laser timed at 4.33. That would have made him the fastest player at last years' NFL combine, yet I doubt he could beat Saine in the 100m. The idea with these times is not to get perfect information on a players speed, but to use the info as an indicator as to what kind of speed he brings to the game. So even if he was hand timed at 4.4,4.5 or 4.6, he's in that group of fastest players around. That's what should matter. I would acknowledge that a HS or college hand-timed 40 yard dash time IS a legitimate indicator of someone's speed, and it is OK to say that they are a "4.4 guy" even if that time is stop-watched.
  6. Hey there tcaee. I am not a premium member, so I have no personal message priveleges.

  7. The sad truth in all this is that because of attitiude and/or philosiphy, not to mention the joke that is called playoff format, these games are not happening. I know this happens in a lot of other states, but these games between public/private powers are a necessity. When you have the same teams beating up on the same teams year in/year out, you have stagnant competition. All you're left with is a bunch of internet hot air, fans telling other fans to "bring it on" as if they're coaches or athletic directors and pointless peeing contests. Does absolutely nothing to help the perception or well being of TN h.s. football.
  8. Hey there Omaha. This years' playoffs will definitely be as advertised....the most competitive in the nation, as Div I is loaded this year. Ohio Div I I can honestly say I don't see a favorite out of the top fifteen. I do think that two or three other divisions have clear cut heavy favorites as Div IV Kettering Alter has dominated, only losing to Div I power Centerville, and in Div V Youngstown Ursuline has beaten up on Div II & III powers including Mooney, Steubenville and Mentor Lake Catholic. They can play with anyone in Div I. Div VI Delphos St. Johns will steamroll the competition all the way to the title game. This year will definitely be one of the most brutal big school playoffs in recent memory.
  9. Lol, best post of the thread. I detect the strong odor of urine in this thread, and the trail seems to lead right up that rope.
  10. Boy do I remember Owl, lol. That was a heck of a thread. You are right. You cannot talk to them about the possibility that there is something better than what they percieve as the greatest show on earth as far as h.s. football. I've never seen a more self absorbed group of people in my life except for a handful of Cincinnati area h.s. fans, but even they realize that there are teams out there that can play with them, and beat them. Because they actually play them. You get that "you ain't from around here are ya boy?" treatment from the getgo. Pretty pathetic that a group feels that if you aren't in their little circle of fans/alumni, you have no buisness posting....unless you want to shower praise/stroke the ego for them(define forum?). I guess that's to be expected when you don't get out of your back yard and play better competition. Some very prideful, narrow minded people, aka "big fish in a little pond", lol.
  11. Just a little FYI to Green Wave fans, Canton McKinley lost to Lake, a DivII school in their conference 21-14, and lost their rb to a knee injury. LINK
  12. Agreed. There is plenty of money being put up for these games to happen, it's time to spend some of that money on crews with no ties to either participating state.
  13. They are a solid, but not great team, I would rank them somewhere between 20th and 30th in Ohio. You are correct....the ONLY reason this game was televised was to see Braxton Miller. The air was taken out of the game when Miller could not go because of an ankle injury. Wayne being down to their 3rd string freshman qb turned this into a scrimmage. Many in Ohio concur that if Miller was healthy, that is an entirely different game and would have been a toss-up, as Wayne beat McKinley last year, and Miller is a one man wrecking crew.... link Most also feel that McKinley will lose a couple of games because of their lack of a kicking game.
  14. They actually didn't score on the 1st run, but definitely scored on the pass and the 2nd run. The worst job of "officiating" I have ever witnessed, and the same is being said to a man in Ohio forums, with everyone sick to their stomach over it, as this crew from the Ohio Capital Conference, a Columbus area conference with 32 teams, has given the entire state a black eye, and probably ended trips up north from any Florida schools. To many, this game alone has all but ruined the event, after 41 games over 5 years and no prior officiating issues, and that is sad, because it is far from indicative of the level of professionalism by officials in Ohio week in/week out. Many are infuriated by Glenvilles' "coach" Tedd Ginn Sr, as his address to the team after the game made no mention of the hose job that handed them a win they didn't deserve. What a pathetic excuse for a coach. Ginn addresses the team The man is far from respected as a coach in Ohio. What should happen is the game should not even be counted, the win taken from Glenville, and Dwyers' loss erased. Maybe if this event is continued next year, Herbstreit will do the right thing and make use of all the ESPN cameras, and review these kinds of calls so this never happens again.
  15. Like I stated, you get nothing but smack talk as a whole from the "big fish in a little pond" crowd, no substance. Yawn....
