    Big 7....

Well, Not sure if big Blue posted this before or after the DB / Sullivan central game last night but Central won in 4. That should shake things up in the Big 7.
  2. Sullivan South is in AA now. They opened with a sweep of Science Hill last night.
  3. I guess the team that finished that finished 3rd last year and 5th the year before in the State in AAA and has more state tournament appearances since it opened in 1980 than probably any other team in the state has no chance now that it is playing in AA .
  4. I haven't posted on here in over a year but logged in just to thank you for the a good laugh. That sir is a classic post !!!
  5. I wanted to add that I thought this was a great tournament and the quality of play seemed higher than in past years. You come here expecting good competition and it delivered. South got to play Ooltewah, North Cobb, and Grace the first night with the Ooltewah and North Cobb matches all going 3. South then played GPS, Goodpasture and Bradley the next morning followed by Signal Mtn, Baylor then GPS again in the tournament. The semifinal with GPS was a thrilling match with South losing in three 16-14. South was serving for the match at 14-13 but was not able to close. Very proud of South's team as they did not play their best Saturday morning but gathered themselves and played much better as the day went on and played very hard and well against a very good GPS team. Congrats to GPS for winning the tournament - they seemed very well coached and are very athletice and ran through a gauntlet of good teams to win it.
  6. I'm pushing my luck - but is there a Saturday schedule available somewhere?
  7. Thanks - it is really nice to have a few days notice in order to make travel plans.
  8. I know its early but if someone has a schedule for the Choo Choo Tournament and could post it I would greatly appreciate it!
  9. This post is so stupid that I shouldn't even reply but I can't help it. South's season the past 3 years 2007 state semifinals 2008 State quarterfinals 2009 State semifinals Since no one around here has been racking up state titles in the last 30 years, I would be willing to bet that 3 year stretch for South is about as good as any other team in this area in recent memory in that school's classification. Elizabethon in the Witten era , Greeneville right now, Cloudland a few years back and DB around 2000 could be comparable. Am I missing anyone?
  10. Since you feel the need to butt in - do you agree with DBFan 91 that there is conspiracy among the refs against DB?
  11. So let me get this straight there is a conspiracy among TN high school officials to make bad calls against DB "everywhere they go" or maybe it is not a conspiracy but because of DB's past success the officials are jealous and subconsciously make bad calls against DB. The refs also grab their arms harder when they make a call against DB then the other schools. Oh, and if I don't believe these "facts" I am an idiot. This is a classic post on so many levels. I will be laughing about this for a while.
  12. I was at the South Greeneville JV games in 08 and 07 and South absolutely destroyed Greeneville both games - don't recall the exact scores but I'm pretty sure the game at Greeneville was something like 50 to 10. Fast forward to 09 and Greeneville had a pretty decent team. So I wouldn't put too much stock in the JV scores. On the other hand, I don't beleive South lost a JV game in 07 or 08 - and they also had a pretty darn good team in 09.
  13. I really don't things have changed. There have always been kids who think they should play when they don't. Any kid who is considering transferring from a program like South needs to be reminded by the coaches and especially their parents that there are a lot of really good players ahead of them who have sat and waited their turn. There are at least 3 examples from last year's team (Bobby Taylor, Ethan Long and Jay Conkin) who stuck it out after not starting when they were juniors. I know there are many many more who fall into the same boat over the years -that is part of the deal when you play for a good program. All three had great senior years for South and all three are playing college football (I think). I bet they are glad they stayed - imagine what they would have missed. I personally admire the guys who stick it out as I think they learn a lot about life.
  14. You better believe that this is a huge advantage for some teams. Much to their credit, I know that Kingsport DB has a huge band (aprox 400) which is as big if not bigger than most college bands. When they crank it up it is extremely difficult to hear anything if you are on within 50 yards of them. This is the reason that college bands cannot play when the other team has the ball - it is to disruptive to the game and unfairly intereferes with the other team. I have been to many DB games over the years and I have never seen the band play while DB had the ball. I have seen them play many many times when the other team has the ball - especially when the other team is near the band. The noise level from a band this size is a whole different level than the typical 100 member high school band. Yes, there is apparently no rule in high school against the band playing when the other team has the ball - but there probably should be. I personally think it should be prohibited like it is in college - but until it is, I guess you can't complain about a team trying to gain an advantage which is not against the rules. This just gives the opposing team one more thing to try and deal with.
  15. It is a message board - no one is being an a** for questioning a call. Yes the ref missed an pretty obvious late hit by a South player but a block in the back was called on South the very same play - so it really didn't matter. The side judge missed an obvious block in the back by Catholic on a punt. Everyone and I mean everyone in the stands saw it. No big deal - calls get missed. However, the unsportsmanlike call on the coach in a tied playoff game in the 4th quarter was absolutely inexcusable. You don't make that call unless the coach is strangling you. YOu just don't do it. That 15 yards is what put Catholic in position to kick the go ahead field goal. Hats of to the South D. When I saw Catholic's line I was worried but our front 7 absolutely dominated the first half. I bet Catholic had negative yards in the first half if you take out the first play of the game Great High school football game
  16. I know Powell beat Halls in the regular season. I saw the Halls - DB scrimmage which Halls won. DB couldn't move the ball at all on Halls except when they handed it to you know who! I was there for at least an hour and I did not see DB score. I think halls scored twice. What does all that mean? Nothing except that Powell is capable of beating what I thought was a pretty good team in Halls. From looking at the scores, Powell hung tough with everyone they played except Oak Ridge. South better show up ready to play or they will get beat!
  17. I'm sure your right - there is not a single player at South that could start at TN High. I guess somebody better tell the boys at South the jamboree was just a dream and they shouldn't even show up as they have no chance!
  18. I would say most South fans should be rooting for TN High for several reasons. First, I think we would prefer a very good TH High team coming off a win versus a loss. Playing a team who is #1 in the state has to get your juices flowing. If we win, the fact that we would have the same record as them is irrelevant to me. If you beat the team you are tied with - you win period. Second, and probably more importantly if Boone beats TN High and South loses to TN High - South is third in the conference. If Boone loses and South loses to TN High then South is second - having the tiebreaker over Boone. Of course, all of this assumes South and Boone both beat Crockett (definitely not a given). Crockett can definitely still make the playoffs if they beat both South and Boone - and maybe if as a wildcard if they beat just one. Go Rebels! One game at a time.
  19. This team still has so much ahead of it. I think back to our scrimmage versus Powell, the jamboree and our first game and how we played. Powell is a decent team and they may have gotten 3 or 4 first downs the entire srimmage. We all know about the jamboree (and yes I know KS did not play) and the Knox West game. If we can get back to that level - anything is possible. I hope the players and coaching staff don't let a hangover from one bad game stop them from reaching their potential. A championship team does not let one loss stop them. For the most part, the college national champions have had one or sometimes 2 losses. In the NFL the Super Bowl winner usually has several losses. The Rebels need to let the loss go and focus on the much bigger stakes ahead. Back to back to back to back to back! That sure has a nice ring to it - but it will have to be earned on the field every second - every snap! South needs to start building back to its potential starting with Science Hill. Go REBELS!!!

  21. 5outh wins in 3 including overcoming a 20-24 deficit in the third game. It was DB s first loss of the season
  22. If you have a subscription, there is a really nice media guide/program on tricitiessports.com for this game.
  23. Don't come to South this week unless you want to visit an empty stadium (it is nice though) DB and SOuth are both off this week. that game is next week. I would highly recommend the TN High / greeneville game or the West / Fulton game. I know several South players and fans plan to attend the West game in support of our friends at West.
  24. It seems to me that the real question is not the running game but the running game with anyone other than the QB! I don't know if teams are loading up to stop the running backs, overpursuing or biting on the fakes but Aaron has ran the ball pretty well the past 3 weeks. Whatever the reason, I'm sure the coaches are working to get it fixed. Go REBELS!
