If I’m not mistaking, SG beat Dyersburg when Crawford was down and out a couple games with knee injury. She leads them in scoring. SG looked terrible both games of the state tournament
Gibson Co will win by 8 points. Turner will contain Beaty to the best she can and keep her below 20 points. York doesn't have anyone to stop Hart.
Gatlinburg Pittman will be too quick for Loretto and win by 10-12
The middle school program definitely is beneficial to the high school. It always helps when you have coaches that are alumni and know the system of the high school program to know how to prepare them! I’m really surprised that head coach hasn’t gone to high school with the success she has had there but I think she’s happy right where she is
Random thought about AA teams…how many seniors does each team have? I’m thinking it’s not many for most of them. Westview with one (one out with ACL), Gibson Co with two, York with none…what about the others?
How are they going to put father vs son in first round?! I want to say father defeats son but gut is saying it might actually be the son taking this one and Huntingdon advancing! Go Lady Pioneers though
Out of curiosity, does anyone know what the record is for most consecutive state tournament appearances? I know this will be Westview’s 12th straight appearance and just wondered if there were others with a streak like this!
It’s the glass house…ANYTHING can happen there no matter what a team has done all season! It takes one team getting settled in and the other team not to pull out a win and move on. All teams go in with a 0-0 record. May the best team win!
Awesome job by USJ and with only one senior! Their two leading scorers are both freshmen. Ayers had 30 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists as a freshman. She’s the real deal! The future for that team is super bright!!
I agree. With only losing Alexander from this year, Westview is going to be tough next year! You will have Sims back for her fourth year as a starter, Evans back after gaining back her momentum from her ACL surgery last year, Rogers back who got a lot of minutes this year and experience under her belt (just needs to gain some confidence), Trevathan back after a year of experience under her belt and improvement, then the freshman point guard back from injury, and then add in Clark and Hayden off the bench that has gotten some solid minutes towards the end and will be ready to contribute next year.
Whoops I meant Riding not Rivers. No doubt Turner is a good defensive player and leader....that was the point I was making. If a team plays Gibson Co defensively like Westview did and then scores more than 6 points in the 2nd half (unlike Westview that got cold) then they beat Gibson Co. That's just my opinion. Nobody wants to handle the ball besides Hart and Riding.
It's been many years of hard fought battles between Gibson Co and Westview! You can't help but cheer for each other when you don't play for each other because we both have such strong traditions and history vs one another. It was a great crowd and exciting game and felt like the atmosphere was perfect for a regional championship game. Now let's both go take care of business on Saturday and show up to the state tournament as "underdogs" and surprise some people. Gibson Co has a good chance to win it all if they take care of business. Westview shorthanded makes me hesitant to say that but anything could happen and anyone could get hot!
