  1. Ed, don't ya'll do any scouting? They played this past weekend. You know you can't put any faith in what is put on here. Good luck tomorrow and get out more.

    8AA

Brandon Smith is still out until after the 1st semester. They only lost one starter from last year so it is no surprise to me. Plus, Coach Fey has the strongest freshman class he has ever had. A couple are playing up. Good luck guys. I miss ya'.
  3. The 1983 Melrose team featured 7'0" WIlliam Bedford (who later played in the NBA and 6'9" Dewayne Bailey. They were good, but not that good. DDVols you are correct. Keith Lee is from West Memphis, AR not Melrose.
  4. 1980 Pearl High featured Lavoisier Fisher, Riley Walton, David Smith, Earl Coplen. Pretty good team, but can't hold a candle to '66. The East Robertson teams of the late 80's with Carlus Groves, Marcus Bell, Jimbo Vaughn, the Blakemore kid and Marcus Dotson were pretty strong. David Woodard was an outstanding player, but his team did not stack up to the previous. Science Hill had some really good ones for awhile as well. The 1985 Whitehaven team with Marvin Alexander and Ron Heury was strong as well. Cobrafan, I would put your 1984 Creek team with Charles Brooks, Calvin Peters, Wendell Lowe, Steven Hall etc. right up there with '89-91. There was a guy on that team that sat the bench, but was a human highlight film in warm-ups that ended up playing at Aquinas. I can't remember his name though. Coach F, can you help me out?
  5. MHS Warrior, it was the 1994 Goodpasture team that featured Mercer, Maddux and Sam Howard as a freshman. Mercer was the tallest man on the squad, hardly 6'10" That team was outcoached and outplayed by BGA in the championship game. I still have the official game tape. Also,to say that the Clarksville team that had Hassell and Marion is the best ever is a complete joke. Talk about underachievers. Guys, please don't bother to put a team down as the BEST EVER if they couldn't even win the championship one time. Pearl High 1966 and Linden 1955-57. Top to bottom the best ever.
  6. What is the extent of Simms injury? Congrats MJ on a good first win. Josh, give me a yell when you can.
  7. Upperman lost at home the other night to University School of Nashville. I guess you aren't counting that since it was a hall of fame game.
  8. 1966 Pearl High without question. Cobra24, David Vaughn NEVER got off the bench that year. He was strictly a JV guy as a sophmore. Also, that team got outplayed in the state championship game and lost to Kevin Anglin and Franklin. Hardly the best ever. The Linden teams of 55, 56 and 57 also won three straight championships. Different type of game then, but still impressive.
  9. His name is Marlin Simms and he is the assistant coach. Coach Harris is having a lot of health problems and will probably not be back, but he is still listed as the head coach. McGavock is undersized, but they have a good shooter in Collins and Price is a slasher. Ralph is a good guy and strong defender, but not a threat on Offense. The key for them will be trying to control the boards against bigger teams.
  10. Looks like that cycle I was talking about last week came around and bit you a little bit sooner than we both thought. It is a good thing you got beat by a coach with class. They could have beaten you by 40, but played their subs. Take a lesson coach Stevens. And while you are at it thank Stratford for taking you to the woodshed because Hillsboro would have gotten you back for last week plus interest. Too bad a couple of coaches have made a decent team look so bad. Coach Chris, experience is the best teacher and you just got a hard lesson. The crime is not learing from it. I hope you took some notes on humility and class Friday night. Coach Johnson, congratulations on a great year and getting that program heading in the right direction.

    79-36!

Sorry pal. There are no cracks in my house. I called it as I saw it. Ask Ezell's coach what it is like when it comes back around and bites you back. Your coach gets an A for preparation and an F for being classless and running up the score. I would say act like you have been there before, but after hearing your coach I understand he has NEVER been anywhere before. Live it up while you can. The cycle is always turning.

    79-36!

A couple of observations from the Hillwood-CLarksville NW game. Northwest has a great running attack. With Hillwood losing two linebackers to suspension, it was that much better. Neither team was very good defensively. Why in the world did the NW coach still have his stud running back in the game to score a touchdown with 5 minutes left that put you up by 37? Why did he then return to the field to play defensive back when Hillwood got the ball back. That is classless. However, after listening to the coach after the game on 104.5 I can understand. When told he would play Stratford again he stated "That's what I wanted. They beat ME by one point and I I I I want that point back." Don't worry coach. Your team is good enough to get your name back in the paper again. I'm sure you will wallpaper a room at home with your press clippings. What comes around goes around. If you gave up 36 to Hillwood, Hillsboro could go for 60. And I guarantee even if #24 plays to the final horn, you will not score 79 on them. Your team played great and your fans were great also. Too bad your coach is a glory hound. He should get together with the Ezell coach.
  13. Yes, he played football and basketball for McGavock in 9th and 10th grade. Now Gallatin in the 11th.
  14. GWave, the stepfather had to sit out his own sophmore year in high school after transferring from Father Ryan. He played jv basketball in 10th grade and that was all. The boy lived in Hermitage when he enrolled at Gallatin. His mom gave his grandmother's address so he could do it. Later when it became a mess, he "moved" to Gallatin. It was too late. He lived with both mom and step-dad (they just had a new baby) the whole time. They never lived separately. Sorry man, just like in real estate you have to have full disclosure or the contract is void. They just conveniently left some stuff out and left Gallatin holding the bag. I really feel sorry for the whole team. They didn't have anything to do with it. He would have been a standout for Coach Luna in basketball as well.
  15. Guys, the player in question left McGavock because the coaching in both football and basketball is horrible and the athletics in general are shabby. His mom and step-dad looked for a way out of the situation and chose Gallatin because of a relative living in the area. They did not disclose all the information in the first place because they knew he would never had been ruled eligible. Players all over the state do this all the time. They just happened to get caught. The boy is actually a better basketball player than football. And yes, I do know the family. The Brentwood situation is ENTIRELY the fault of Brentwood. The girl in question was the starting pitcher for FRA softball as an 8th grader and decided to transfer to Brentwood for the 9th grade. Both the player and the coaches understood that she was ineligible. She should never have been dressed out for the tournament (or any other in-season game for that matter) in the first place. You guys act like this is a new rule or something. EVERY SCHOOL in the TSSAA knows about this rule. To cry about it when you violate the rule is ludicrous. Gallatin is unfortunate because they honestly thought the kid was o.k. In that case it is the parents fault for not fully disclosing and the whole team has had to suffer.
  16. If you nominate Whit Taylor from Shelbyville then you need to put in Jerry Link at Hillwood. They are now 9-1 after beating Shelbyville tonight 45-34. They were 6-5 last year and I believe 1-9 in 2001. He is doing it with smoke and mirrors ( and one incredibly fast tailback).
  17. Hillwood defeated Shelbyville tonight 45-34. Hillwood took a 32-7 lead after the 1ST QUARTER. Then it got interesting. Antonio Lewis ran for over 200 yards. This gives Hillwood 2nd place in the region to Hillsboro and a first round home game for quite possibly the first time ever.
  18. Volunteer General, athletes come in cycles no matter where you live. No team stays on top all the time (except privates, I won't even go there). Maplewood was a powerhouse in Nashville at one time. They are terrible now. Glencliff was in the statre championship game just four years ago. They are, I think 3-6 now. Whites Creek was state runner-up a few years ago. They are terrible now. I guarantee you can come up with similar examples in every region of the state. But the bottom line is TSSAA gets 18% of the gross proceeds off every play-off game in EIGHT classifications! They say that is what pays for their liability insurance. The bowl system will NEVER return in Tennessee. By the way, how many coaches has Warren County had in the past 6-7 years? There is no support and the kids don't give a rip. That is the problem in McMinnville.
  19. The only problem with Columbia is that Hillwood beat them. Hillwood is 2nd by themselves right now. Columbia has to hope Shelbyville or Spring Hill beat the Toppers or they will go on the road.

    Oct 31 games

Shelbyville at Hillwood has been moved to Thursday the 30th.
  21. God gave us two ears and one mouth in hopes that we would listen twice as much as we talk. No offense 4life, but you should get your facts straight before speaking. I didn't think Coach Goodwin would do something like that. Good luck the rest of the way. I was there in '96 and I hope you can bring it home again.
  22. It is NOT legal unless they are in at least the 8th grade. You are only allowed 5 years of high school eligibility and even then only if the 8th graders are in school on the same campus as the 9-12. I'm sure Coach Goodwin knows this and is not that ignorant of the rule. Especially at 7-0. I would hate to see another CPA.
  23. Metro is out of school tomorrow. If they are the host, it is their decision to play tonight. At McGavock, it is EXTREMELY hard to get some of those kids to the school if they have to get there on their own (in other words, if the school bus didn't run.) Most, if not all of the players stay at school from 6:30 A.M. until after the game. They used to feed them in the commercial foods room after school, but I don't know if they still do.
  24. But Salty, would you lay with her in a field of stone?
