  1. GOOD POST. I like your take on the game. It's hard to win against Craigmont in THEIR gym. They have a great fan base & their players have a lot of heart. RE & Craigmont kids have grown up around each other & the rivalry is always there. There is always more on the line than just the basketball game (as was evidenced after the game). 'nuf said.
  2. Should be a great game between rivals RE & Craigmont. Both are talented well coached teams. RE won over Craigmont 100 to 76 at RE's last home game to a packed house full of fans, scouts & a few Grizzly players as well. I would think Craigmont has a lot to avenge and have the home court advantage. Looking forward to this!
  3. Maurice "Mo" Miller - RE is my bet. Quality individual in or out of basketball.
  4. This was very disrespectful. I am surprised an adult would do this. If you need to scout a team, you don't do it on a night that you already have a game scheduled. What could he have possibly been thinking? If he needed to scout this team, why didn't he do it earlier in the season? You know your schedule and your off nights. If I were a parent of a young man on this team, I would be upset at the message this sent to the kids. You are supposed to honor your commitments. No excuses. I agree there should be some kind of reprimand or consequence.

  6. I don't pretend to be an expert on rankings, however, based upon what I have read, the strength of schedule and the overall effectiveness of the TEAM against their opponents are what is used in determining a rank. I would not highly rank a team whose wins, no matter how many they may be nor how wide the point spread may be, were against less talented teams in or out of the state. I was at the game when Ridgeway won against RE. I can, without any doubt, tell you that RE did NOT play their game. It's called "when bad things happen to good teams". Every program has an off night. I am glad it was early in the season and not later as the loss has little significance at this stage of the season. The loss hurt "feelings" more than RE's record simply because of the mutual rivalry between the teams. I wish RE had fans who were as outspoken as many from other parts of the state. It appears that most of the posts to COACHT.COM are from outside of Memphis. Regardless, it will be the final game in the State Championship that determines the winner. RE has been to state many times and has not come away with the gold ball. Hopefully, this season will be different. Good Luck to all.
  7. Excuse me if I offended you, Barb. It certainly wasn't my intention. I know the coach of RE very well and know he doesn't take any game for granted. For him, it is one game at a time. Very few RE fans post to this site. Very rarely do I. The original topic was about coasting to state. The last several pages of this thread seemed to be more about individual players than about the teams as a whole. In my feeble attempt to get back to the subject of the thread, I apprently offended you. Please forgive.... Again, that being said, COASTING to state is not being challenged to play at the highest level.
  8. Greeneville get to the championship game...? I agree they should probably conentrate on winning their district tourney first. Everyone has a chanceto play for the state championship...but let's be reasonable. RE is #1 in state and ranked 20th in nation by USA Today. They have nationally ranked players as well. That being said "coasting" to state is not being challenged to play at the highest level.
  9. What can you tell me about Greenville's coach? I don't know anything....overall record, years of coaching, does he have a nationally recognized program? Does he have a program for the younger players such as participating in Saturday morning leagues, summer league basketball?
  10. TAKE STATE.....hmm....Take is a very strong word. I believe anything is possible, however, my vote will be for Raleigh Egypt. My opinion is based upon their coach's ability, the depth of the team & their overall cohesiveness.
  11. This does not include the Memphis players. According to some, the reason is because the Commercial Appeal does the Dandy Dozen. I believe this is just an excuse to not have to include Memphis players. Do other newspapers have local only polls as Memphis does? Also, if the CA has done the Dandy Dozen, I haven't been able to locate it.
  12. according to what i have been told, the official rankings are voted by the media. the sports writers do go to games, that's part of their jobs. whether or not any attended games in which greenville, played, only they could tell you. i guess they only are accurate if they list your team at the top? i thought so. fyi, i am for RE & not Hamilton. quite frankly, i hope greenville wins!
  13. RE has it all this year. Good shooting team & they play extremely well together. Not selfish & KEEP THEIR COOL UNDER PRESSURE. It should be a good game with lots of intensity from both teams.
  14. is Greenville ranked in the state? i haven't checked rankings. I am sure they are good, but isn't everyone who is going to state?
  15. i use vacation every year. just something you have to plan for. adding an extra day just increases costs, ie. hotel & meal expenses.
  16. The West will rise again!
  17. RE & Hamilton were to play for the Memphis City Championship. The game was cancelled due to weather. It was not able to be rescheduled due to the District games that were to be played the following week.
  18. have not seen bearden. going with what i know....RE all the way.
  19. well, i say good luck to all. what i do know, we'll be seein' some GREAT basketball this year from all the teams!
  20. i thought we were talking basketball. if you want to discuss world travel in general... been to europe & mexico and almost all of the continental us. let's stick to the subject at hand. RE ROCKS!
  21. from the big "m" town, myself. have traveled with RE to Huntsville, Los Angeles, Mississippi & of course, Murfreesboro. They have been to Chicago & Deleware to play in some big T's. I have also gone with the coach of RE to scout many of the west tn teams. Where have you been?
  22. i agree with you. i think that some of these small town guys need to get out once & awhile. come to the big city & see what's happening outside their county.
  23. the fines collected by the TSSAA in 2004 were approximately twice the normal amount. the fines are not just from unruly fans, etc, but, also from schools that have not complied with deadlines for getting in paperwork, etc. taking the money & giving it to schools via scholarships as reward for doing a good job is as it should be. Once students grow up & become part of the work force, they will be rewarded for the job they do. If they don't do a good job, there will be no reward & possibly a pink slip in the envelope. This is the way of the world. Good sportsmanship should be taught by parents, coaches & administrators. This is what we are really talking about. It appears that TN fans are not displaying good sportsmanship. You can cheer for your team, question a call, jeer at the opponent without losing your dignity or self respect.
  24. best freshman team in state is raleigh egypt.
  25. Coulda, woulda, shoulda............... Game is over, get over it. Not trying to be ugly, just that it's old news now. I hope that Bolivar has not built a TEAM around 1 player. At this time of the year, all teams have injuries, illnesses, etc. It's time for the others to step up to the plate and pitch if one of theirs is not able. Good luck to all teams as it's beginning to be crunch time.
