  1. Hope you are right josh15, but i don't see any "easy" games for Waverly the rest of the way. Waverly will get everybody's A game. There will be some lopsided scores after some of the games but to be able to predict which ones will be difficult. This is a big week for Waverly basketball which starts tonight.
  2. Waverly fell behind early. Closest they could come was a missed open 3 which would have cut the lead to 7 midway thru the 3rd quarter. Waverly had no answer to Northside on the boards. I think many (lots of people from surrounding schools were there) left the gym impressed with Northside' s performance. We wish them well. Waverly's Ricco Ralston had another very good game against NS, leading all scorers with 23. He may be the area's best unheralded player, who will be a "steal" for the college that he plays for. Gomab, if your read this post, don't take my word for it; ask the Delks what they think of his game the next time you talk with them.
  3. Hmmm... Can you say "make up call"??? I too was saddened to see a good game turn twice in the final seconds by calls from the officials. The call against the CC player (who did use his elbow to push off/block) was to offset the previous call when Leonard was charged with an offensive foul on the inbounds play. Trying to draw the fake charge was a good plan coming out of the time out and even if a foul had been called on CC, Waverly would be shooting a 1 and 1 without time coming off the clock. Excellent coaching on CC's part. The referee who was the furthest from the play, standing at midcourt, was fooled and made the call. Im my opinion, that prompted the make up call which was indeed a picky call. I don't think anyone was happy to see the outcome decided the way it was.
  4. Thx Redhawk for information. Yep, a big win for the Wood.
  5. Creek Wood beat Harpeth again last night in a close game. Any details?? How is the Creek Wood player who was in the car accident doing in his rehab? We wish him the best and hope to see him back soon. Also noticed that Harpeth's Robert Derrick didn't score, so assuming he didn't play last night. What's up with that???
  6. I don't know. The roads near McEwen are the same as they were on Monday. Main highway is clear but the side roads are very slick.
  7. Anybody have a score on this game? Who played well?
  8. Brock was not eligible last year as he had to set out a year after transferring from Page.
  9. Page recently beat Cheatham County and several preseason posters had picked the Cubs to win the 10 AA championship. If you look at the out of region records of the teams in Region 5, aside from Giles County and Waverly, the teams have faired quite poorly so far this season. District 10 AA will provide many close enertaining games this year, but the overall region is weak in comparison to other AA regions. BTW, any comments on the Page/Cheatham game??? I read where Noel Smith only scored 8 or 9 points. Was he injured or sick, or did Page have a good defensive scheme against him?? Nice scoring game for Cole Brink. Cole has worked hard on his game and will surprise many this year. Who was the other Cheatham player who scored several points?? Was a new name for me; not another transfer player is he??
  10. May be a good time to consolidate schools??? The "Humphreys County" team would be a AA school.
  11. Did West play for Stewart County?
  12. No, that is not true. Cheatham County came up with a better offer.
  13. Three T's on Stewart County; two on Waverly. Ricco Ralston from Waverly received his for hanging on the rim. He was protecting himself after an ally-oop dunk attempt in traffic. The referee told a player that the T was called because he didn't make the shot. Either I've learned something new or the ref was wrong?? West from Stewart County received two technicals. The first was for flopping while trying to draw a charge after setting a screen. The second was for showing some kind of displeasure(either verbal or slapping the floor)after a defensive foul was called. Not sure if the foul was even called on him. Do two technicals on a player result in a 2-game suspension?? If so,his Christmas break just started. BTW, West is a good player for only being a sophomore. Stewart County's Jamie Patterson received a T for throwing an elbow to the head of DJ Reid. Patterson had properly cleared out after grabbing a rebound in traffic but threw a late elbow after securing the ball. Waverly's Jonathan Leonard received the last technical of the night. I'm not sure why this was called so I will let y'all decide. It was one of the following: A. It was a delayed penalty call for Jonathan not making the best ally-oop pass to Ricco earlier in the game. See above. B. There was contact with a Stewart County player while going upcourt and the referee was trying to even up the technicals. C. Jonathan was caught taking a quick glance towards his family in the stands, making sure they were watching, and apparently there is a rule against this.
  14. Yes. Coach Rawlings played college ball at Lipscomb. Kevin was a heck of a high school point guard. Many locals feel Kevin was partly responsible for Austin Bates being recruited and playing at Vanderbilt. Austin loved to shoot and Kevin would feed him the ball. I believe Kevin also holds the Waverly record for 3-pointers made in a game, so he was an excellent shooter as well.
  15. Waverly wins 68-63. Waverly seemed to be in control of this game throughout but could not pull away. Henry County took a 2 point halftime lead when Waverly played sloppy towards the end of the second quarter with 3 subs playing the last couple minutes of the half. Jonathan Leonard played big for Waverly on the offensive end making seven 3's for 21 points. I can only remember him missing one three pointer. Ricco Ralston handled the ball well and dribbled thru Henry County's press several times for coast to coast lay-ups. Ricco also finished with 21 points. Jeremy Teague had 15 and Ryan Lindsey 14 for Henry County. Sympathy goes out to all in Henry County. A Senior football player (and maybe a former basketball player??) was killed Saturday morning while returning home from a lock-in. Tragedies like this sure put the game in perspective. I'm sure it was difficult for both the Henry County girls and boys teams to suit up for this game, let alone stay focused. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
  16. Two Division 1 signees and NE gets blown out tonight. Hmmm.
  17. Waverly wins 69-42. Score sounds like a blowout but game was a lot closer. Camden had no answer for Ricco Ralston who penetrated and scored or penetrated and dished at will. Curtis Reid made several nice jumpers, D J Reid hustled and played good defense again and Trey Reeder made some easy baskets down the stretch. Waverly was up only 2 at the end of one quarter, 7 at the half and only 12 entering the fourth period. I was impressed with Camdens play. Game was quite physical and the refs let em bang inside. Camden should have a good season and would expect them to improve as their football players get into basketball shape.
  18. utm_bball, I hope your memory during your upcoming finals is better than your recollection of last years Waverly team. Waverly did lose an outstanding player in Bubba Nichols but he was the lone senior on last years team. Losing Bubba will not be as much of a loss to Waverly as losing Bain and Reed will be to Camden. The catalyst (IMO main player) for Waverly last year and this year is Ricco Ralston. And Waverly's defense last year consisted of mostly trying to outscore their opponents. I expect tonights ballgame to be very one sided, a 20+ point blowout.
  19. and your new district the next 4 years with Lexington and the Jackson schools won't make things easier..... a raw deal for Camden
  20. Xavier Webb from West Carroll to Ole Miss
  21. Waverly would be about the closest school you would travel to in the region. Sycamore, Mongomery Central, Creekwood, Cheatham County,Stewart County, Harpeth and Fairview would all be further.
  22. I have read several posts on different threads about the Hall of Fame games not counting as a true games. Some posts even suggest that they only count as wins for the winning teams and as "no game played" for the losing team. Whats with this??? The teams are in uniform, the referees are the same as those in other games, the popcorn is fresh, and the fans pay money to watch. These seem to be games to me, not scrimmages or exhibitions. I was under the impression that the T$$AA would allow teams to play an additional two "games" per season provided the gate would be sent to the T$$AA for funding the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame building and exhibit. Is this not the case??
  23. I agree with all of the above. I suggest that we continue to send emails, faxes and calls to the Sports Department of the Tennessean asking for better coverage. I think everyone enjoyed reading about the teams and how they might match up against their district foes. Last year the high school stats that were printed in the paper consisted of scoring averages and the number of 3-pointers made in those games which were submitted to the Tennessean's data base. Away games against an opponent outside the Tennesseans coverage area or not called in were not included in any of the stats compiled in the paper. Also why not include stats on assists and rebounding as well???? Coaches could fax their stats weekly as they have done in previous years.
