  1. Is Kentucky HS basketball under one classification? For years Tennessee had one classification...it worked then...look at your history...small schools won their fair share of titles. I can think of one school, Alcoa (a Single A school now playing up by their own choice) won under that system. I am not necessarily a Ronnie Carter fan, but I am afraid money is the issue. Alcoa chose to go AA class for basicly two reasons...money and money. They could not afford to travel almost four times as much to Single A teams and they made more money playing AA schools which were closer. Does track have two classes??? That is getting closer. I am sure Rockwood could play up...aleast they think so. How about the super teams in one division and then the rest of the schools....Faragut plays up and then the battle for the rest of the teams....I for one would love to see Rockwood play ...say Karns four games, who wins. Or Maryville in basketball play two games a year against all the Chatt. teams A thru AAA...do they still have a winning record.
  2. Congratulations to Powell on a great win.....Powell will do well at states...Good Luck.
  3. Congratulations to Greenville and Coach Burkey for a fine performance and a fine season. They will represent east Tennessee well at the state championships. Also, Congratulations to Heritage and Coach Howard. Next season will be even better.
  4. 800, you are right about THE PARENTS and the fact that there would be shock......my point exactly. If the parents are not doing it....I, as one parent, want my kids protected from it. Do the drug testing!!!! I care more about my kids than the score on the board.
  5. This is not a Fourth Ammendment issue. If you want to make this an FA issue then lets break it down. The use of drugs...beer, coke or otherwise is ILLEGAL. The schools now have a seach policy that allows for drug searches to be made. This should be an extention of that policy. If you take a drug test, random or manditory...and you are not using drugs, no warrant will be issued. IF you are using...then FA says a warrant will be issued. Tell me how this test invades the individual if everyone is taking the tests and it is a requirement. The probable cause is the safety of the team and each individual of the the team. The school not only has the right to protect each individual but is a requirement that every child in that school be protected from drugs. As an org., the school is protecting both the voilators and the non-voilators. Reasonable cause of the drug testing....that is obvious....just look at the statistics. Drugs are out there. Let's stop the use in the schools. Let's not hide behind the success of the sport to keep violators in uniform. I do not know what type of policy should be in place...but one is needed. I want my child protected from the users and dealers. And yes...if he or she is using...I want him or her caught by what ever means and methods available....at home or at school. Drug testing is a method not only to keep kids away from drugs...but gives the school an ability to help those that do violate the LAW.
  6. crkjon, Stache choose D1 baseball over D1 basketball (at Army)... had offers in both...and is doing pretty well. Looks like he made the right decision.
  7. You are right Blevins does a great coaching job especially at the end of the season when it counts.
  8. I'll throw my two cents in here, you all are talking about different levels of players when you compare some of the past with the present Jim Riddick and his crew played about as well as anyone in Blount County, I hear stories about the "one classification" in their day from players in Nashville, Memphis, Athens, Chatt. They were the best. Jim had over 1000 reb and 1000 pts, thats incredible. The players mentioned from Marshes teams also great players both Micah's and David's. I think you have to mention the lastest team to make it to the states two years in a row and just missed it be one point in double over time the third time. The team of Stache, Pierce and Martin. They knew how to turn it up at the end of the year and go to the next level while other teams faltered. Jeremy made it to 8th (behind Riddick) on the all time scoring list at Alcoa. And with as much history as Alcoa has, that's an accomplisment. As for the women, no doubt Dawn Marsh was the best, any time, any team. I will also add, Koral Stache to the women's list, I read earlier this year, Koral past Dawn for carreer scoring, I believe to take over first place?). Koral helped an Alcoa team in four years go from 1-23 and I think 5 straight losing seasons to 21-11 and semi finalist in regions (AA) her final year. Not bad.
  9. blik, I agree with your statement. I stand by Jody Wright as one of the best in the state. He has history and a great track record, especially for the talent and obstacles he has faced. I only mention Micah Marsh as the future...still needs to put the time in and get to that point. I do not agree with a great coach is the one who wins the most gold balls or who is at states the most...necessarily. Although, that is a very important criteria.
  10. Jeremy Stache (2002) 1300+ last person to do it for Alcoa Boys Koral Stache (2003) 1850+ Alcoa Girl's, not bad for brother - sister combo.
  11. Robinhood, I agree with you. Coach Jody Wright is probably the best coach in the district and out of Knoxville. Year in and year out, all the other coaches worry about Fulton at the end of the year. To mention another coach....Coach Micah Marsh has done a great job with Alcoa. I have told many people he has done more with less. Great start with a young team last year and he continues with it this year. I think if he had coached the teams that when to state two years ago, there is no doubt in my mind, they bring home the gold ball atleast once. He coachs with alot of excitement and agressiveness. He loves the kids and they love him back. A mark of a good coach is to start out and end a season with the same kids. In the previous years, that never happened. Good Luck to both of them.
  12. Congrats to Heritage...any details about the game. Isn't Maryville 1-3 since playing Heritage last time? Can Maryville muster up enough against SD? (assuming SD loses against SC.)
  13. Is AE making their move now...Since losing to McMinn Central by twenty...AE has quietly won 11 of 12 including avenging their lost to MC. Their only loss during that time was to Seymour. If things work out as they appear, there will be an AE vs OS matchup in Regions. Things never go as they appear ....but is AE ready?
  14. ladepanther32, you wear your jersey well. You are as graceful as you are good. Good Luck to you. I am looking forward to my youngest playing you and Powell next year. You are a fine example of good things about Tennessee Girl's Basketball. You (and your team) is one of the reason's East Tennessee basketball will need to reckoned with for several years to come. I look forward to watching you at states and for the next three years. You remind me of a young man at Cosby several years back named Eric Coggins. He just loved to play basketball.
  15. I am not sure it matters...but there may be a slight advantage to third seed. Whoever gets it, will get a chance to a have game under their belt going into the 2nd round (unless they really screw up). I would say if AE loses coin toss, they will win and go to semi and final with full steam ahead. I think Alcoa also plays better with no rest. Either way, Congrats to Alcoa for probably another 20 game season (for a student population of 385 and playing AA that ain't bad). From where they were four years ago to now has been a great achievement. And with the graduation of Seymour class, I think they will be fighting AE for top spot next year. This year 3AA may not be as dominating in Region 2AA and 1AA. But look out next year.
  16. Nothing is wrong with Powell...They have three losses, to three tough teams..in close, well played games, away from home. With 27 wins...no matter how close... they are a GREAT team and will go far into the playoffs...if not all the way to states. I can remember several years ago their loss to Alcoa. They have come along way from that time, b a b y. And the good news is from the youth they now have, it appears they will be sticking around for several more years. East Tennessee Girl's Basketball is definitely on the rise. I am looking forward to several championships coming to East Tennessee the next four years.
  17. It will be a great game. I think the key will be McGinnis and Hodge...if they are on...HHS will go a long way.
  18. oold and hhs... you were both right. A very excited timekeeper played a very important role in that game. And the block...it was a great play by McGinnis. I think she worked and stepped up...pitiful call by the ref. That was the game. Congrats to Heritage for a great defense that put them back into the game. That kind of heart will help them at playoff time. I was impressed how they did not quit like some others teams have. When you play Heritage, come to play a full game.
  19. schsbears...I am not sure what your comment is about concerning Seymour, but if you will look back at that thread, you will see I did not think their game against Carter was good and then to brag about look even worse on Seymour. Nothing would please me more than to see an East Tennessee team win states...any division, however, WE fans that were rooting for you early are starting to wonder. Let your games do to talking. I would say every fan of Coacht knew you all won and gave it the level of respect for the win that it deserved prior to your post. Enough said about that "minor" win. Go on to the next win. The "season" does not start until playoffs. OS had already packed their bags last year...but forgot to get out of regions.
  20. Ditto...Jim314, This is not the one you talk about.
  21. LLK, I always thought Katy was tough. She is following in her sister's footsteps. I have said that aleast four times on CoachT's forum. She is an aggresive player..which sometimes works against her...she sometimes gets into foul trouble. But did you she the move under the boards in the second half. Best play of the nite. IMO Katy is the second best player in Blount County. Hodge is getting better every day. If the board work improves and Hodge continues, and Cait remains Cait and Katy continues, Heritage will go very far. As far as Maryville, The post played a good game, the freshman post is the next big player from Blount county. She has got the body for playing low, she just needs some more foot work and shooting and she will be tough. The Landers girl is allowed to shoot alot (about like Humphrey)...she was 1-12 first half with 2 FT. She started to hit some second half, but I think with her missing so many first half, that set the tone for Maryville and they could not come back.
