  1. Huntingdon's only loss was to Milan. I doubt that anyone from 5AA could beat Milan, and I wouldn't bet against Huntingdon this year, either. McKenzie is still tough. We'll see in a couple of weeks. Best of luck to all.
  2. Dresden is in Region 7AA. They wouldn't be playing anyone from 5AA or 6AA until the quarterfinals, but thats assuming they get past Milan to get there. Not likely.
  3. OC- and j55, got any Fresca???

Region 7AAA teams should be: Ripley Covington Obion County Brighton Not sure about order of finish; it will be decided next week. Week 10 games: Ripley vs Gibson County Covington vs Dyer County Obion County vs Brighton Region 8 teams look to be: Raleigh Egypt Kingsbury Sheffield Hillcrest However, as with most Memphis regions in any class, no one knows until week 10 games are over. Region 7 teams are always having to get on the phone to find out who finished where and who plays where in Round 1
  5. I'm just talking about Covington's losses this year. Sometimes how a team matches up with another is the difference in the game. When Obion beat Covington, the game was played at OC's pace. Covington would much rather be in a shoot-out than a low-scoring affair. Covington had tons of athletes, but that night, Obion played better. Milan and Covington both have athletes coming out their ears, and thats why I said that this game could go either way. I wasn't trying to imply anything about Obion County. I was just saying that this could be a barn-burner.
  6. Both teams have a chance in this game. Outside of Huntingdon, Milan has yet to be challenged. Covington has lost a couple of ballgames, but still have a better than average chance to beat the Bulldogs. Both teams have loads of speed and talent, good coaching, and lots of tradition. Covington will be the best team Milan has seen this year. Milan will be as good or better than Obion and close to Germantown. Forget about records; forget about "we beat a team that beat them" and all that stuff. All that doesn't matter. That being said, I think the winner will be the one with better focus, fewer mistakes, fewer turnovers, and fewer penalties. Right now, that team is: Milan 28 Covington 24
  7. This week at Covington will be a good game between two powerful teams. The team with the fewest mistakes and fewest turnovers will win.
  8. You might run into the problem of coaches inflating their players' stats to get them recognition or awards. I know that 99% of coaches would be honest and fair, but somewhere there is a coach who would take advantage of the system. If it ain't broke, dont fix it.
  9. Thanks for the "support" Titans264. Unfortunately, most Obion County fans wont stoop to that level, and we wish the "new-and-improved" Falcons the best of luck.
  10. If all three teams win out, there will be a three way tie for 1st in the region. Since Ripley will have the best overall record (9-1), they will be region champs. Obion Co and Covington will have 8-2 records, but since Obion Co beat Covington, OC will be the higher seed because of their head to head win. Final standings will be: 1st Ripley 2nd Obion Co 3rd Covington 4th ??? (Brighton) Of course, if one of these teams loses again, this would be all up in the air. Big games still remaining are Milan @ Covington (Oct 24), and Ripley @ Dyersburg (Oct 10). Its gonna be fun!!!!
  11. And the coaches who will have to depend on those players for the next three years.
  12. Thanks for the compliment. Best of luck to the 'dogs, too.
  13. I've been on both ends of lopsided scores. We won one game 52-6. My team was up after one quarter 24-0 and 32-6 at halftime. In that game, my starters didn't get on the field after halftime. I played jv players entirely, including special teams. I even put players in different positions than their normal positions, just to practice for emergency "what if" scenerios. The result was my 3rd and 4th string players still being better than the other teams starters and 2nd team. We drove down the field and scored on three drives running nothing but full back dives(with 5 different fullbacks). The other coach knew I wasn't trying to embarass his team. He had his team focusing on getting better, despite the score. I felt that my kids had worked hard in practice against the starters and deserved to play to their potential. We let the clock run continuously in the 4th quarter, and everyone left respecting each other. There were no hard feelings, everyone got to play, and no one got hurt. Thats what football is all about.
  14. Obion County's defense has been strong over the past two games. After giving up some points to McKenzie and Ripley (Both 5-0) and Westview, OC has shut down two usual powerhouses in Covington and Union City. Covington was held to 7 points and super running back Michael Grandberry was held to about 70 yards. Union City, though in the midst of a rebuilding year, was held to less than 150 yards of total offense and 8 points. Maybe it's not the Steel Curtain (yet) but the Rebel D is looking tough.

I wonder about a CFO who "installs" broadband. Aren't there qulaified technicians to do that? Also, when counting that "six figure salary," the places after the decimal don't count, Einstein.
  16. If there is a tie at the top of the region standings, then overall record will be used. If Covington beats Ripley and then the 3 top teams (Covington, Ripley, Obion Co) win the rest of their games, final records will be: Ripley 9-1 (5-1) Covington 8-2 (5-1) Obion Co 8-2 (5-1) Then Covington and Obion Co would be tied for 2nd. Obion County won the head-to-head matchup, so the final standings would be 1st Ripley, 2nd Obion Co, 3rd Covington. If Ripley beats Covington, and then everyone wins out, it would be: 1st Ripley 10-0 (6-0) 2nd Obion Co 8-2 (5-1) 3rd Covington 7-3 (4-2) Should any of the three lose any other games, then this would be shaken up.
  17. Westview by at least 10, maybe 14. My guess: Westview---27 Humboldt---14
  18. Everyone knows that Obion Co's Wes Moore can throw the ball; his 3200 yards and 36 TD's last year prove that. What you might not know is that he ran for 95 yards and 2 TD's Friday night in their win over Martin Westview. OC's new veer system is showcasing Wes's multiple talents. Though he is yet to prove himself to be Steve Young or Michale Vick, he is certainly proving that he isn't one dimensional. It will be fun to watch.
  19. RipleyHigh#12- You must be scared or a fake because you still haven't answred the question....what position do you play (if you play)?
  20. Lets look at the play from the other side..... Obion has the ball at their own 9 yard line, 3rd and 10,score 40-30. If OC downs it and punts w/ 30 seconds left (from their own end zone), and its blocked and recovered for a TD (which is very possible considering Westview's speed, and the fact that OC would be punting from the goal line or end zone), then all of a sudden the score is 40-37. A successful onsides kick recovery by Westview, and Westview has the ball at the OC 50 and at least 25 seconds to get CW West into field goal range (which happens to be anywhere inside the 35 yard line)for the tie. Now, if OC has the ball anywhere else on the field and the blocked punt for a TD isnt a possibility, there is no question, OC would have downed it and punted. But, at the time, with Westview's D fired up and coming hard, OC did what they had to do to move the chains. OC threw a pass and Westview's safety was up to stop the run. It happened to result in a long TD pass. As far as "high-stepping" into the endzone, it didnt happen. Check the film. Kissell was tired from his nearly 400 all-purpose yards and since there wasn't a Westview defender around, he jogged the last 15 yards. No high-stepping involved. Now, in defense of the game itself....both teams played well on offense, but had trouble defensively at times. It came down to big plays, and OC just made more. Both teams have shown great improvement and should continue to improve. Westview and WesCharge-This was in no way written to be derogatory or show you up or anything like that. Its just my opinion, a different slant on the situation. Take it for what its worth. Coming from a fan, great game all around for both teams.
  21. Ripley has two kids being courted by big-name schools. FB Brian Flagg (6'1" 240) is a monster and is being heavily recruited by Ole Miss. OT-DT Ramon Foster (6'5" 290) is on Alabama's hot list. Foster has a brother starting at Louisville as a redshirt freshman or sophomore. Both of these guys are pretty tough.
  22. Dresden is always one missed extra point or one bad quarter away from doing something in 7AA. If they are ever going to have a year, this could be it. Union City, Humboldt, Trenton, and Westview are all down, at least according to their usual standards. Don't get me wrong, those clubs still have good teams, just not the usual terrors in this rugged region. I see Dresden making the playoffs, and getting to host the first round could come down to that "one big play" that seems to haunt them. Maybe this year it will big for the Lions and not against them.
  23. RipleyHigh#12- What position do you play?? I want to know who to watch and where you will be playing.
  24. Jeff should do a good job. He has paid his dues as an assistant, both at Obion Co. Central and at Union City. He will demand hard work, discipline, and character. Things should improve for UC, but Jeff needs to work on his 9 iron.
  25. With so many coaching changes in the state this year (especially in West Tennessee), which new coach "walked into a gold mine?" Sometimes coaches have to build their programs from the ground up, and sometimes new coaches go deep into the playoffs. Which schools with new coaches have the most athletes and the best chance to have success early?
