  1. Good Posts except for the negitive insults for goober or what ever his name. I am sure Coach Reid will have his kids up and ready as they can be and will be inspired by the hometown crowd, if you can call it that. I think it is more of pride thing will drive Alcoa and not revenge. Goober stated "I dont care how much depth you have. the alcoa guys want it more". Really. Only a novice coach and fan would say Depth is not importaint. The Three Time 4A State champs would disagree. He also said (Alcoa is) "Playing for something Maryville doesnt know anything about". Well Maryville knows about winning and what it takes to do it tonight. Maryville 45 Alcoa 10
  2. I also think this will be a great game to see. Early I think both teams will be trying to find the flow. In games like this most of the time I think the run game will rule. If this is the case Cleveland will win 24-10. Barber has not been impresive the few times I saw him but I think this will be a great year for him and it will also open up the Cleveland passing game.
  3. Just noted the Knox paper has maryville by 10. What do the football fans out there think. Please only game pertinent information on this link, I request that only postive posts be posted here. Keep the trash talk somewhere else. I have to work and will miss most of the game until the third or fourth qtrs. Good luck to both programs but I think Maryville will get it together this week as they were not as sharp last week vs Carter. Carter was improved and I think they will make the play-offs. Fot those who will be at the game, enjoy.
  4. Goob, good point someone will have to step up for sure because Maryville will simply not lay down for anyone. The kids are in condition, coached, ready and they really do expect to win everytime they take the field. Mind set is important to be sure. Alcoa is a great program, but they are not ready for Maryville this year. Maryville was not sharp last week but in the big game the rebs pull together and get the job done. This is a big game both programs.
  5. Me thinks 5A would be easier for Maryville in East TN. But I heard Alcoa is young and this will be a problem for them. I do not think Alcoa is much younger than MHS is. The QB's all have the same starting experience. Thompson 1 good year and Feigler has one of his own. Rouse has never been the starting QB and is a senior. RB, advantage MHS due to depth and experience, at maybe 60%. O lines are both well coached and young. Recievers pretty even in experience and depth, in my view. Big advantage is the D. The weakest point of the Maryville D is the LB's. They are young in experience and only one seems to have a "Nose for the Ball"! Coach G should look to his bench for depth and keep his starters fresh. Maryville will swarm to the ball and the score for Alcoa will be low. MHS 42 Alcoa 10. See you there.
  6. I agree with most of my Rebel Brothers. Cade leading blocks from the WR set will surly put his lanky body in a cast. Cade needs to call the plays and we are just going to have to get by without the option, because he simply is too slow to run it in my view. If Rouse is in at QB, Thompson should be on the bench where we won't lose him by blocking LB's who will for sure put the hurt on him. My opinion is he has done a good job at QB and unless GQ thinks he is not getting the job done he should take the snaps when he is on the field. Maryville 42 Alcoa 10. Go Rebs
  7. Agree with most of the other rebel faithful. Much work is needed and in store. The win was ungly but make no mistake it was a solid win. Carter had a chance to even the score but team play by the Red D stopped that. Fumbles and interceptions were a problem that I an sure GQ focus on this week. Come out and watch the JV tonight and the re-load continues in Maryville. Go Rebs.
  8. To Mr Billmorgan. So you think the KFL has best ref's in the state? Your head is in the sand. From a ref's standpoint, and I am a ref part time, most ref's work hard and call it the best they can. Are calls blown, yes. Watch ESPN you'll see your share by the pro's. Frankly some of the best ref's work Blount, Carter and Hamblem. Knox county would fall well below the ones I mentioned. It is a tough job and without a replay much is a judgement call.
  9. After watching an outstanding Jamboree last night in Alcoa, good job by the school staff. I must also offer congrats to Alcoa and Coach John Reid in his first win at Alcoa. It is sad to say but I don't think Alcoa is back like they are promoting. At this point in the season I think Maryville's 2nd or 3rd strings could handle Alcoa. Maryville in this one big maybe 48-7.
  10. DB is a good team and the tradition of State champions belongs to them with 9 total I think is the number. Jeff Co gets the edge in my book only because of the starters Jeff has coming back. DB has a better O than Jeff Co except for #11, but the D will win it for Jeff Co. As for my Red Rebs, we like to scrimmage DB and Oak Ridge because like Maryville, these places are the homes of champions! Year after these programs are competitive, a scrimmage is simply a game situation practice. It is good for film and trying new plays and players. Maryville may not be on top at the end of this season but the program only has one way to go and any team that thinks it can defeat the champs and the win will somehow erase the 3-peat or the tradition Maryville has is kidding itself. Make no mistake my friends, Maryville will not fall quietly. The kids know what it takes and this class of seniors knows how to lead and to be led. See you Saturday!
  11. Maryville by 21 with the second string score in the 4th. Central by 6 in a mud bowl. The forecast is for rain, rain and more rain. Maryville has preformed well in adverse conditions time and time again, ask Morr West! Good luck AE.
  12. Sure. My thoughts are that MBA is a Div. II AAA school. Is it a $17K a year private school for rich peoples kids who get invited by the alumni and sometimes the football program. If a kid has talent he gets tuition help. I mean they have about one teacher for 9 kids there, what public school can match that? Many of the kids do not live in Nashville and are not from TN are they? Comparing MBA to a public school is like comparing West Point to ETSU. I never said I was not impressed by some of the athletes and young men like Will Bartholomew that are developed by the program. But it is the life style of the rich and famous to be sure, in my view. MBA is a great program and I meant no disrespect, I just fell like Maryville could match up with them any year of the past five years. Both schools have 7 state titles in the classes played. I do not judge a program based upon how many D1 players they develop. Maryville has not produced many D1 type athletes but in the books for Tennessee High school football they are in a class of one. Few teams in history have done what this program has done the past five years in the win column. In 98 I saw Montgomery Bell Academy get beat by Father Ryan 10-7 in a close one, the same year Maryville got pummeled by PC, the last time Maryville got destroyed I might add since then.
  13. Hey Mr dilweed, what in your view would be the next level in Tennessee. Maryville was the only undefeated and three time state champ last year to my knowlege. So from Maryville's #1 pearch where would the higher level be! MBA is not a school like Maryville but upon any meeting that would have happended the last three years, Maryville would have wipped MBA too, no question. This year is a new one and no one knows how it will go. If this is a down year for Maryville so be it, but any team who may beat them this year will earn it by play not the war of words by arm chair QB's who have not been there or done it. My kids have and have nothing to prove.
  14. I know I'm going to get killed, ....but Reb Fans, I too attended the OR scrimmage and I have to be honest, Corey Booker ran all over the linebacker corp. As much as I hate to say it, coach G needs to look hard at this group. Fundamentally, the LB's were out of position and really didn’t hit like groups of the last few years. The speed is there but the nose for the ball and hitting ability was not there. The reads were slow, wrong, and Booker was only slowed by the good play of the secondary. I know it is early but I have real concerns about this group of kids. I also know they have worked hard as have the rest of the team, but this contest is nothing to hang "Our" hat on. OR's offence was below par for this program, except for Booker. Mediocre performance by the reb D, in my view. The O was beginning to work and I think Roush had an off game. Cade played with more poise, a good performance. I hope to see a better performance by the D at DB friday.
  15. It was a great night to watch three up and coming teams. No question my Red Rebs are on top as the three time champs and have no where to go but down. But I saw an up and coming team in the youth at shields last night. Maryville will improve each contest and be ready to enter this years play-offs. I do have some concerns at QB, LB's and O line. #7 has an edge because of the experience he fell into last year but I don't think he has improved as much as the secondary or the receiving corps. Those kids, most of which did not start last year have improved a great deal. IF #7 stays the primary at QB, teams will be able to key on the lack of the deep threat or the option. Rouse is simply a better athlete and opponents would not be able to key on the above. The size, speed and depth is there 2 deep again for Maryville. On the D side of the ball the squad looked pretty good but we had a few kids playing both ways and this concerns me always. The LB corps did ok but really lack size and hitting ability of LB's of the past three teams. I do think they will improve but coach g should take a look at few of those spoh's that he does not know! I do not think the D is quite 2 deep like years past. If injury comes the Rebs will have to step up. AE will make a deep run into the play-offs in my view and have the tools to win the big one as long as their conditioning stays. My only comment here is they looked tired. But they are going to be fun to watch. Coach H was as classily as I remember him and a few other teams around the area should have offered him the money to get him at their helm if they want to win. Last thing, it is a great pleasure to see that may fans and former players in the stands cheering for three great teams who are coached well. The 23rd with Carter can't get here fast enough. Go Rebs
  16. Today is the only day I have missed viewing at least 70% of the 3-time defending State Champions Maryville's practice. All is good this early in my view. The Rebs are without question bigger and faster this year, not taking away anything from the great class last year. That kind of experience only comes at a price. Looks like the QB job is in heated competion, a good problem to have. I think the backfield is set with AB & Chris, but there are about five kids I think could fill in or replace if needed. Also good problem to have. The O line and rec's need alot of work. TG has not yet been impressive in my view. The D. Coach G better look real hard at his LB corp. The group he has at 1st and 2nd, with the exception of one #47. are fast but really need to get a nose for the ball. I am worried here. The last two years Coach G has had great kids fall into his lap, this is not the case this year. Coach T in the secondary has been blessed again with kids that are ready to play now. They are bigger and faster and should present a problem for passing teams. Kicking will need some work cause Maryville seldom punts or go's for the long fg! Over all the soph class is loaded and good things are in store this year. It is very early but I think GQ will have the tools to make another run, TWO DEEP! Go rebs.
  17. Sorry all, but when one thinks of Blount County Football, one thinks the home of the champs. Maryville is the reason for this thought process. I enjoy Blount County Football but must take issue with an above comment referring to the Daily Times News Paper. In my view the paper is the worst in the state to my knowledge for high school sports. Maryville has won 3 back to back State Championships and the program gets sorry coverage at best. One would think a reporter would attend the SC game and get some pictures at least. I, like many in Maryville, no longer buy this hometown rag. The Knoxville paper is much better for coverage in my view. Most of the sports coverage’s is cut and pasted from the AP or UPI and NASCAR is bigger than HS Football to the sports staff at the times. The paper refuses to print anything but marginal stories on all the local teams and during the season and Thursday is the only day one can read a short story about the weeks match-ups. Morristown, Elizabethton, Greenville and Bristol all have stellar coverage of their local teams compared to the daily times. It also seems to me the paper is byssi to a few players whose dads have cash. This is the biggest shame and insult to Blount County High School Sports and football in general. My view is this board is the best place to get info on Blount County Football.
  18. I also thought it suprizing that the Cleveland stands didn't fill up. I don't blame the fans, it was very cold that night. It was so cold Morristown West and Greenville put their game off till the next day. I also agree Carter is first for Maryville. As for Mr. Goats comment that one guy from Texas is going to turn his program around I think is alittle wishful thinking. I do think Knox West will win some games and turn afew heads in the KFL this year. Go Rebs
  19. Back form vacation and the dead period is over next week. GQ and the boys from Maryville got one thing in mind. Let the work begin. We will see who is ready to play on Oct 24 in Knoxville. The Rebs look better this year at this time than they did last year with all those great senior leaders! I am very excited to let the games begin!
  20. "A very talented alcoa team might have their way with the rebs this yr"????????????? JPATS that has not happend the last 10 years and I would not think it will happen next year. Coach E will have those young men clicking and with the size of the Jr. class the 03 and 04 line should be bigger, stronger and movitated enough to get this team deep in the play-offs. Besides Coach Reid is going to busy theaching his charges how to tie thier shoes as he tries to get that speed to fit that WB play book. All is well in Murville!!!!!! Go Rebs
  21. Does anyone know where a working fan can find the game on the radio? I am checking some on-line sites. This great event should be on TV in my opinion. Go get'em Tennessee!!!
  22. Goveman you said Coach Phelps was received very well by the parents that were there. and he asked that the parents and boosters need to trust him and his staff and not be negative or question the coaching. I am familiar with WB and that is asking a lot. Did Coach Phelps say how long he would be there?
  23. For the record, I don’t hate any team of kids playing HS Ball. They all work too hard and have respect for this fact alone. For three years now I have heard how good Mo West is and will win it all. A very arrogant statement to be sure. And then every year they fold early in the play-offs. Last year Maryville could have scored 100 if GQ had not called the 2nd string off. I don’t use names as a habit, but Barber from Cleveland is a big time back and will get his yards on West, you can count on it. Barber is much better than was Riggs in my opinion and I have heard has a real work ethic, unlike Mr. Riggs had at Rhea Co. I watch and follow HS ball because it is last bastion of pure football. West will be .500 in a weak region again this year. My job takes me to Elizabethton, JC, Bristol, Kingsport. Knoxville, Cleveland, Chattanooga and Morristown. I have watched some practices over the years and am not too impressed by Morristown. None the less good luck to you and your team.
  24. Coach Duncan will be missed. He always had well prepared teams with good sportsmanship. A loss to the Powell Community for sure.
  25. Let's see at Cleveland, The big running back down there will run around and over mo west for about three scores and the passing game with clevelands speed will add two more. 35-10 Cleveland. 0-1 At Cocke County Moo west should pick up thier 1st win in a close one. Those farm boys in Cocke Co are building a program that is about 1.5 years away and will cause the region some concern. 1-1 Jefferson County with Coach Medows in his third year will come to town with a cross-town rivial sprit. They will pound Mo West on thier home turf on thier way to an undefeated regular season. 1-2 At Maryville you really don't want to know what will happen here, it will be ugly, again. 1-3 Swain County? Well this small country school should be no match for a TN 4A region champ like West. 2-3 Morristown East if the new coach can keep some of the good players off the West squad, East could re-build the program. 3-3 David Crockett in an upset, 3-4 Greeneville will win this year but lose in the play-offs 3-5 Volunteer will give it a game but Mo west will route this youn team 4-5 Cherokee not sure, West 5-5 West will be second in the region behind Greenville My $.02 worth
