  1. Pre Season, Me thinks 1. Hillsboro 2. Melrose 3. Cleveland 4. Maryville 5. Tullahoma 6. Knox Central 7. Elizabethton 8. Bristol TN High 9. White House 10. Mo West
  2. Rhea Co?? A great program to be sure and no one in Maryville is laughing. There is to much class for that here in Maryville. I do think however Cleveland will have it’s way with Rhea Co and let’s not forget Knox Cent., Morr West or Elizabethton. All expecting to have good years. Predicting you will be winning it all is a bit forward my friend I think. Good luck. Go Rebs!
  3. I also know Chuck and his family. His sister is also a great young lady and outstanding athlete. Chuck is a model young man and a testament to what hard work and dedication can do. This is another example of what local kids from Tennessee could do if they were given a better chance by UT. A great story on Chuck and I’ll be looking for him on the field this year.
  4. Well all is good in Rebel land as the summer work outs are at full steam. For anyone who would like to see what it takes to be on top of the Football world in Tennessee, visit the Maryville campus around 6AM. By this time the kids got a good sweat on because they have started at 5:30. I have been up there twice and I really like what I see. A another great group of coaches and young men paying the high price, by choice, to be successful, a pleasure to watch and have a son follow his brothers footsteps. The kids look great and it is obvious the off-season does not exist for the State Champions!!
  5. Having lived in Texas, Mich and Calf I can say, with sadness that Tennessee is not even in the top 20 across the US. Based upon players playing at the next level in their home states I say Texas Fla Calf Wash Mich GA LA Wis Ohio Iowa
  6. Stars, Heart is what makes a great team. One night two kids had casts on an arm I think. I wish I knew how many rolls of tape Mr. Joe and his great staff of student trainers used last year compaired to other state champ teams. That is a record someplace me thinks! Go Rebs!
  7. Very well said MaryvilleRebels and Rebron. I have never heardof a team who had so many injury's to key players and accomplished what this team did. So many kids steped up to keep the big reb machine firing on all cylinders. It was fun to watch and be apart of something that huge. The senior class may not of had many players go to the next level but the 2002 Maryville Red Rebles were one of the greatest football "TEAMS" I have ever heard of. I am proud of the kids and the men who coached them as well as the commuinity who supports them. Say waht you will about who can beat who, but last season will live rich in my heart for the rest of my life. Go Rebs!
  8. I still cannot see how Football program the size of ETSU's could be allowed to lose a Mill! The faculty and admin I am sure will get a the normal large pay raise on time. Has the University attempted to manage it's way out of this mess, or is it jsut easier to cut the program. Sad story.
  9. I hope the people of Johnson City rise up and see what can be done to save this program. If the program truly lost over a Million last year, most of it could be mis-management. Losing does not help. I could never understand why ETSU does not use its Home Dome for more events that could raise money, like concerts and home shows. I hope the folks in charge try hard to save the program and look at other cuts, like admin salaries. Maybe go the way AP went until the program can make money.
  10. As normal a great debate and good arguments. Cade did do a great job with a seasoned line, WR and RB's! He simply steped up in outstanding fasion like so many other kids did last year on both sides of the ball for the pounding we took injury wise, last year claiming the third state title in a row. The senior class was 40-5 over three years the experience, two deep was huge. Most other teams only get 10 games a year. Cade was in the right place at the right time, and did a good job, but next year will be a reload year. Maryville doesn't need to rebuild but will alwats need experience two deep. Cade will provide some of that. Also note the next years soph class has some developing players that will start and push all of the prespective starters. All is good in murville.
  11. I have a son who played for those raiders a few years and if the coach gets the job it will be a sad fall in GOV-VILLE. The ole boy system will be in place and some good hard working kids will pay the price, on the bench. The only postive would be stability! Good luck.
  12. I agree with most of what MLREB said however, I must toss these thoughts into the fray, and will no doubt get pummeled by my Maryville faithful. Cade was in the right place at the right time. Sure 15-0 at qb, but make no mistake with last years O around him, many kids could have stepped up into the job given the opportunity. Very few D˜s got near him and for every completed pass there were quite a few wide open Gaskins, Holts, Clements˜s and Merrits, and other missed opportunities around the field had young Mr. Cade had the ability to read the field, which he has not yet developed. I don˜t think there is a dilemma for GQ, you go with your athlete who can run, throw and read for the option. The option that GQ liked to run during his past years was not in the game plans because Cade is not fast enough to run it. Rouse on the other hand is and should be the QB. Cade was not the only Soph who can play and when some of those Freshman show up next fall a great deal of speed will be available for GQ to pick from. Cade did do a great job and nothing here was meant to take away from his ability or the good things he accomplished last year. But if Maryville is to again win the toughest region in the state and have a shot to make it back on top, you must go with your best available talent, not what was done in the past.

    WB Coach Job

From the thread below, because it got away from the real question. Does anyone really know who is being considered for this 5A job? I would think one would be selected prior to the end of the school year. Comments!
  14. I agree with Mr. BBlount. If the AD's and the blount county officals don't really supporting the county schools athletic teams they will go down hill. Both County programs need some kind of commitment and WB needs to choose the future coach carefully. WB should go after Maryville's Gaylor or White. These are fine men and would do well as a head coach. As a Maryville fan, don't get me wrong, I would not like to lose them but the fact is they live here and would turn that program around, no question. But the boards would have to support them as well as the parents.

    Big Games

Fulton will not be in any big games if he does not step up!
  16. The Gold Balls are great but more than that the Maryville community cares about it's kids. My son got banged up this year and the great healing support structure went into high gear for him. The program is producing many fine young men who grow up and contribute to many different communities as well as this one. Mr. Riggs was treated with great respect for his perceived talent (Another Issue), so much respect I think he got a huge 64 yards that night on about 30 carries! Name another team who did that. To the Maryville˜s Red Swarm he was just another good running back, that˜s all. In the past five years Mr. Lively (Halls) and Mr. Milligan (Powell) were in my opinion much more dangerous and got more yards on the Maryville D than did Mr. Riggs. The kid from Cleveland is also a great back with speed that caused Maryville some concern, but as all know the Reb˜s adjusted and got the job done. This is the last time I will post back at this jpats-wizfb jerk, I will ignore his disrespecting of a first class program and his lack a trasy talk on this fine message board.
  17. JPatFBWIZ-----Maybe Maryville will not always be this good, but for now this decade belongs to THE PROGRAM. Maryville will again reload and most of us reb fans are smart enough to know our kids will do the talking on the field, not threats, only results! I won't go out on a limb and say something stupid like "We will win it all, Fact"! By the why Mr. Thompson, how's that trophy case expansion going?
  18. Good luck I hope Halls does get it going again. Can that QB throw or are do you think it will be up the middle again every play. Mr. Lively was fun to watch, he was a great running back but not a big threat because he was keyed on due to the lack of the passing game. If the Halls passing game could get going you would have had a better season. This year you get Maryville in the rebs third week and second region game, a good place to play them because I don't think Carter or Alcoa will test Maryville much, this year. I pick Halls 3rd behind Maryville and Central. Good luck and we'll see ya.
  19. To Mr. JPATS5, I, like many others have also watched High School football in other states throughout my lifetime and Maryville is one of the best programs I have seen in a public school. The fact that the school has top notch academics is the reason I moved my kids into the city of Maryville, not football. I can tell you this, no one recruits and the starters earn their spot, year end and year out. The fact that you and others keep ˜Predicting˜ Morr West will win the State Championship this fall does not get you a bye until the game at the boro. Your team will have to produce outside your region, which they have not done. My view is if Morr West can manage to beat Maryville, when it counts, will never be easy. Then there are other teams like Central, TN high, Greenville, Elizabethton, and Halls who all produce good team˜s year end and year out West will have to contend with. You may be one who is sick of hearing about Maryville; Well I am sick of hearing about what Morr West is going to do! The past few games I have seen Morr West play against Maryville was not worth the price of the ticket or getting rained on from a fans perceptive. It was fun to watch the third and fourth strings score on the Morr West starters, last year and that is your big D of the future? Well that was the Maryville O of the future. Let˜s get it done then talk. Champions in any sport get it done not wish it done. Getting to the Championship game 5 of 6 years and being the only undefeated 4A team in the state deserves and has earned respect among those who really know football.
  20. To Missingtherealstory: You posted; "Central has had better athletes than Maryville in the past few years". Really?? Ya think? What do you base this assumption on? Are you one of those little league coaches someone is talking about? I have coached little league but I don˜t think I am ready for a position on GQ˜s staff. I note that Maryville wins other region championships in other sports, or at least are more (Than Central) competitive against all other opponents. I think both schools have had great athletes over the years but make no mistake Maryville has some stallions roaming their field of play year end and year out. The ladies down here in Blount County also do real well, check the softball & BBall scores. Attitude, hard work, commitment to excellence, the desire and expectations to win are afew of the keys. By the way these lesser athletes need more trophy case space, again!
  21. The Maryville program, the home of champions. When your starters only get half a game every friday and the coaches get to play three deep week after week, what do you think happens when those kids get to be seniors? Maryville recruits, Bull!!!
  22. GovMan You have many great posts and I do not want to be ugly. I will not name names because it is classless and this is not the place for it. Two facts are WB has had three coaches in as many years, two were crooks like a certain principle in the county I know and second a pretty good LB's little brother, who will be a better athlete than big brother has transferred to another program. The family got a great deal of grief over THEIR DECISION, because the other program is hated in that part of the county, and the whole ordeal was shameful, in my view. The kid just wants to play for a better program with stability, simple. These kinds of things hurt a team. Coaches must be stable and WB seems not to be able to pick the right guy. I always pull for the Blount teams but do pick a favorite when the teams face each other. I want the best for every kid who comes out; Lord knows every one of them earn support of the community, or should. Again only My .02 worth not intended to attack.
  23. I agree with Coach DG, there are significant differences in small and big schools, but X's and O's don't change. The fundamentals do not change but your depth and #'s coming out do. Conditioning is also a factor because at big schools it is very hard for an athlete to play 2 or 3 sports at the larger school, therefore kids tend to study "Their" sport more. Blount County has some of the finest athletes in the state and I know the county coaches sometimes get together. A great idea, from my view. As for my Red Rebels, I can˜t even try to second guess GQ on the O but I would like to see more of the tight end option. I also thought Coach Gaylor would look too got to Alcoa, but learned he has both of his son˜s on his baseball team at MHS, another issue. Coach DG have you thought about the new staff at Maryville College, it might suit you well. WB will be in a sad state of affiars if the promote within the program and not spend some cash and get a guy and staff who can and have won. My view.
  24. Rankin would not be stupid to attempt to rebuild a Team in a commuinity that has a winning tradition, with support. Satterfield I don't think would like be told how and who to play at WB. Reid I think realized he made a mistake jumping into the program. That is maybe why he left after only one year. He is a good man but will have his hands full at Alcoa, because they expect to win NOW! Won't happen this year, maybe 7-3 next year are my thoughts.
  25. Congratulations Mr. Lee Humphrey, MR BB. You earned it. Another great young man who, left the state to play D1 ball. MHS will miss you for sure, Good luck in Gater Land, they will love you too, and looking forward to seeing you bang in the 3's at T.B. Arena -vs- You Know Who!
