  1. Bayou Bear, That is an absolutely hilarious post. Thank you.
  2. I think the voters probably applied the "blind squirrel" rule. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
  3. So wait, are you saying Blackmans Patton (#1 D1) only getting a decision against Ryan's guy (unranked D2) means D1 215 is weak?
  4. CC, Cleveland Middle had a bunch of tough kids when I saw them wrestle, but two really impressed me. They wrestled back to back around 115 and 120ish and I can't remember their names. Who are they and how did they do at the Tullahoma duals?
  5. RMC, is it worth it to hang around Sunday for the middle school duals? What's the scoop on Alabama middle school wrestling?
  6. Put that way, I couldn't agree more BayouBear. Thank you for the clarification.
  7. I didn't even use the term school, so no school in particular, just the general feeling I get from a handful of DI folks that a DII medal is a throw-away. I know Bradley wrestles DII schools. I know BayouBear, who I was addressing, does not speak for Bradley..but from his posts, he perhaps thinks he does. Not trying to pick a fight or stir things up, but to dog a 2X state champ who through no fault of his own has to wrestle in DII (or DI for that matter)...just doesn't seem right.
  8. The rules change was Riverdale driven, so yes, football was the impetus, but some in the wrestling community sure fell in line. What's the quote, "all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". I don't remember any outcry from the DI masses. TX, nowhere in my post did I mention Bradley.
  9. BayouBear is entitled to his opinion, no beef there. Whether or not his opinion is true or not is debatable, as most folks I know think the DI championship is a joke. Personally, I'm inclined to take the position that all these wrestlers have been dealt a bum hand by a bunch of self serving adults and that any attainment of a state medal should be commendable. I do find it strange, however, that the same folks that changed the rules and forced the creation of DII, the same folks that won't wrestle DII because of some perceived advantage they claim DII has, are the same folks that make disparaging remarks about the accomplishments of DII wrestlers.
  10. St. George is having a ms individual tournament in Memphis Saturday. I'm sure you could get in if you are willing to make the trip.
  11. I agree. That is how a dual tournament should be run. Great venue, stayed on time, 5 matches and out by 6, good refs, great hospitality room (those ladies can cook), and quality competition (for every one besides Cleveland...they are that good). I was very impressed with Cleveland as a whole. Techniquely sound, strong, well coached, supportive AD, good fan support...I can't say enough about that program. Numerous future state champions on that team and trouble for the rest of D1 if they stay together.
  12. Now look who's into the 'shine.
  13. Baylor? 2008 Wrestling, Girl's track 2007 Wrestling, Soccer, Cross Country, Boy's and Girls Golf 2006 Wrestling, Baseball, Boy's and Girl's Golf Girls's softball, 2003, 2004, 2005 The list goes on 98 total state championships academic excellence just saying
  14. My complaint is not really with the venue or city. If the powers that be decree that Chattanooga is the only city fit to host the tournament...I'll still make the trip to the finals. IMO it would be more equitable to move it around like in the old days...but I do remember my senior year the state was in Nashville and I felt cheated out of a Chattanooga trip. My beef is with the Wed-Thur-Fri scheduling. So if you live in Memphis, I guess you leave Tues. afternoon? Parents miss 3 days of work, kids 3 days of school...finals are over at what, 7... Memphis and East TN get home at midnight or spend the money for another hotel night? Thursday-Saturday was bad enough, but even then I could always find a way to make the medal round. I'd even rather they compress it into two days than move it back one. To me, it's just unconscionable that the tssaa would have so little regard for the wrestlers, famlies, and fans. Their answer to UTC should have been that "Our tournament runs Thursday - Saturday. We're sorry you won't be able to host it this year".
  15. Great...more time off of work, siblings miss the matches, fewer people to attend. Makes sense to me.
  16. Wasn't aware there was such a thing. Who did they beat?
  17. What do you do with Baylor 8th grader Zac Watson, 30 something and 0 against HS varsity guys, state champion, voted OW of the tournament. I'm thinking the risk of injury was greater to the seventeen and eighteen year olds. Maybe individual sports should be the exception? I do know that without Watson, Baylor probably doesn't win the individual state title, so 8th graders can make a big difference.
  18. I'd have to agree. Don't see how you can replace a Herman, Clanton, Mix, Goodrum, Miller--I'm sure they are losing more...
  19. Nice job Bayou Bear. Just two minor corrections for your records: Simpson was 2nd at 149 and Dunning also was an All American in 2005 with a 6th place finish at Adams State.
  20. No. While McTorry was a respectable wrestler at Nebraska, he never reached All American honors.
  21. What I've heard as far as placers: Eli King 1st, Cayce Ortale 6th, Kenneth Garrett 2nd, Cole Moseley 6th, Ricky Fisher 5th.
  22. Hey, dumb and dumber, you guys can't pull that. YOU accuse schools of recruiting and when you are called to the carpet, you ask to get back on topic. Put up proof, turn 'em in to the tssaa, or shut up about "scholarships". I do agree with your ealier post about Williamson County being on the rise, but as Indianapop pointed out, they still haven't caught Davidson County.
  23. Just to be clear, so those two idiots will understand, i'm sure he applied for financial aid-just like everybody else-and if it was granted by the independent clearinghouse, it just wasn't enough to ease the financial burden that would be placed on his family. I do know that the clearinghouse will tell the school how much aid the student qualifies for and then it's up to the school to offer whatever percent they want up to the qualified max. And I'm sure a Catholic school would be more likely to offer the max to a Catholic kid over a non-Catholic kid. So, no recruiting-familys initiate-and no schloarships-approved financial aid.
  24. See, that's just a wrong, though common, misconception. Family calls your school and asks for an application, kid applies and gets accepted, applies for financial aid through Prinston, qualifies for a certain amount below the total cost, family decides to go someplace else, and then you accuse the school of recruitting him when, in fact, it's always the family that initiates it.
