  1. being an old jet but not getting to see them very much but keeping up with them for the last twenty years I for one hate to see him go. Since he's been there at least there was a reason to keep up with the jets. I can't say that for anyone else since Coach Vanwinkle. When he arrived they had only one winning record in since 1982 and only one playoff appearance in school history. I dare say since classifications started he has the second best winning percentage in school history, took them to more playoff appearances than anybody else and probably as many wins as anyone. Tied for a region championship in 2002(only one other district championship in 1982 was also a tie but won the tiebreaker) if not for a fluke play in the 98 playoffs against eventual state champions Oakland would have probably beat them Oakland never had another close game en route to state championship. Coach good luck wherever you end up and thanks for making jet football interesting again!!!
  2. If its like it used to be the fair is probably in crossville so the crowd was down because of that. You know that the fair is one of the biggest events in crossville I'm sad to say. Hate to hear crossville lost. Heard they are really small and not very fast. Makes it tough to find something that will work.
  3. Tom Morrow was an asst. coach, not sure of the years. I believe he was with the vikings. I forgot about Rodney French, but I don't believe Farley had that kind of numbers but they did win alot of ballgames his junior and senior years.
  4. Larry Majors is right, but don't know the years. alltime leading passer would probably be Ben Whitson. If I'm not mistaken he threw for a thousand yards all 3 seasons. And for all you Watt haters that think he runs too much Whitson played for him about 4 or 5 years ago. also If I'm right they didn't win too many games when they were throwing for all those yards. do what your talent allows and if you don't have much, do what you have to do to have a chance in the 4th.
  5. Bolin May have been on that team also, but I think the year was 66. Name a coach at CCHS that had a brother who was head coach at an Sec power.
  6. Tollett was tailback with Watson. CCHS has actually been to playoffs 3 times. 1982 lost to eventual champion lincoln co. 98 lost to eventual champion Oakland. '01 lost to either champion or runner up riverdale. '02 lost to Oakland. Which former head coach of CCHS was also on an undefeated team as a player. (or coaches)
  7. I think you are right about coffee, Price has not really went after any jobs so he must think he's pretty good. Cookeville is clearly the favorite after winning it last year and having most people back and 30 something seniors. Lincoln want have many seniors but as always will have some speed and tradition so they will be a factor. Warren is another year or two away from competing for the playoffs. Don't know much about Franklin or Cumberland.
  8. how many starters did coffee lose on defense? How many starters did cumberland lose on offense and is there a coaching change?
  9. just want to say as an experienced coach at several levels. look at the number of athletes that go on to play skill positions at the next level. I know there are a few. fast twitch muscle fibers play a role in this. I also think that when you get used to playing at a certain speed it's hard to play faster when you need to. It's hard to get someone to understand that things need to be done at a quicker pace when they are having success against inferior talent. alot of times its almost impossible to be challenged in practice because of the great lack of depth in this area. When Riverdale practices they may be facing younger people but look at the speed they face everday. also at some schools the starters job is never in jeopardy because they have enough sense to know the person behind them is far inferior, which sometimes results in bad habits.
  10. when did coach price say he will do better next year. Cookeville is probably the best coached team in the region. how many players does FC return. Why do you say Crossville continues their downward spiral. yes Warren is Warren!
  11. What do you mean lost coaching staff? Did they get fired or did he finally wise up and leave? I think he does pretty good with the talent (or lack of) that they have. They were in every game this year just had trouble winning some late. (no depth)
  12. I know cookeville returns alot defensively but what about offensively? Coffee loses Nunley, what about their wings? how many seniors did they have on defense? How many seniors did Franklin have? and who were they? what year is Leslie? Cumberland County loses King and Blaylock? do they lose many more? Lincoln loses Gregory and? Warren was very young?
  13. I agree I think powell beats cleveland. In my opinion I think cleveland underachieves. They usually host a playoff game but are never really considered a state contender.
  14. Some of you people have unrealistic opinions of your teams. What do you mean kept going away from what was working. Do you realize that cumberland County scored 20 points on a pretty good defense. Thats more than Cookeville, Franklin co. and Murfreesboro oakland combined. From talking to people the Jets kept Lincoln Co. off balance most of the night they just had a hard time tackling gregory. Sometimes you just have to admit that teams have better athletes!!. As far as firing coaches you might want to check out how crossville did before this guy got there!! I always remember them as a sure thing. You may still beat them(because of better team speed) but you better be prepared.
  15. If memory serves me correct the last time crossville beat cookeville was in 98. when was the last time sparta beat cookeville or crossville.
  16. What weeks do these three play each other. Not much insight on sparta. Is coach brown hiding something up his sleeve. Whose freshmen won last year?
  17. sparta and crossville will be a war. Bad blood from the sparta side makes this game interesting. sparta hates crossville and it all stems from the thrashing crosville put on sparta 2 years ago 58-0 ( no points in the 4th quarter and only 17 in the third, one by the 2nd team defense, but coach brown says they ran up the score on them.) but any way Cookeville will beat them both. probably beat sparta by at least 14 and crossville will be close. Badblood what have you specifically heard good about Cookeville? bad about crossville?
  18. CCHSJETS2002, Wouldn't count my chickens or talk to much junk just yet. I hear Cumberland County doesn't have very many out and don't have any size. I think that guy wins with not very much but may be asking alot this year. Don't know how they won five last year. They never have any speed and you know you have to have speed to win. Would like to see your coach go somewhere with some athletes. No offense to the people of crossville, but look at the talent difference. Region 2 better be aware of Mcminn they are always dangerous. Maybe not the most talent they've had but still dangerous. Mcminn is also a tough place to win!
  19. Believe it or not most infractions are reported by ticked off parents. If you violate the dead period I think you have to start practice 2 weeks later than everyone else and forfeit 20% of your games.
  20. I don't think their will be any sleepers at the 5A state level. Riverdale is probably a huge favorite and should win it barring a miracle. At the region level I think you should look out for William Blount in 2-5A, Cookeville in 3-5A, Livingston in 3A. Watch for Ooltewah in 2-5a also. Wilson Central may have a playoff year.
  21. Was coach Mackersie the head coach or a coordinator. What does he do offensively. Who is the new head coach?
  22. Don't they have a new coach. What do they do now on offense? They used to run the wing as well as anybody. When Mullinax was there they were the most dangerous when you thought they didn't have much.
  23. I think you are right that the region will be pretty tough! Most people return a lot of people. Coffee has their whole offense back including 2000 yd. rusher Nunley. Franklin probably has the most talented skill people back. I know they lost Pryor but they had some very talented backups. Lincoln lost alot but always has speed. Cumberland had very few seniors and they were very competitive last year. Cookeville seems to just win under Joslin. I look for them to win the region again. I think one pretty good team will stay at home for the playoffs.
  24. Most people do not go out to spring practice until May. We will not be able to get a lot of input on these teams because the board shuts down at the end of April. Lets keep it open 2 or 3 more weeks!!
  25. Lincoln should have some speed as usaul. They compete in what many consider the weakest region in the state. But I disagree. Last year 5 of the 6 teams finished with 5 wins or more. Lincoln won 10 with wins over Franklin & Riverdale. Coffee won 7 and finished 3rd. Cumberland County won 5 but didn't make the Playoffs but beat Region 2's 2nd place team. (Mcminn) who only lost to CC, Oak Ridge, and DB Lincoln may not beat Riverdale and Franklin but should be a contender in their region which is not necessarily a speed region but a ball control and power region.
