I envy you with that lens. That is a great lens. I have a Rebel XT and am using an 18mm-55mm F3.5-5.6 lens for basketball. My next lens will be either the 85mm or the 50mm 1.4 I believe. I had a professional photographer give me some tips. If you get a chance try this. Put your camera on AV Apeture Priority. Put your F stop as big as you want it. F1.8 in a gym. and let the camera determine the shutterspeed. You will always have the correct shutterspeed. In certain situations you may not like the shutter speed but it will be correct. Frankly with a F1.8 lens you will probably never have a problem. Also with that lens you should be able to lower your ISO to about 400 and still stop the action. Every ISO you go higher is like 2 F stops. But you also add noise (grain) to the picture. I also make my files large but not RAW. You can create some really nice shots by cropping and resizing the picture.

Wow, I've never seen a high school coach with this kind of philosophy. I've seen defensive players DH ed for but never a whole group like pitchers. Most quality high school pitchers are very good athletes and I can't believe that they can't hit. Case in point, Class A Forrest last year had Mikey Minor. Left hander, good fastball, major league changeup. Drafted by the Devil Rays. Pitches for Vanderbilt. #1 college team in the nation right now. 3-0 as a true Freshman. Holds State Record for strikeouts in a 7 inning game at 21. Gave up one earned run his senior season. Batted over .450 with 17 homeruns on the 2006 Class A State Runner UP Forrest Rockets. This coach would not even know what his player is capable of.

Forrest High School has a regular net batting cage up most of the time in the balconey of the gym and one in the Field House also.

I was just wondering, since its hard for me to determine from the posts, this is high school ball we are talking about, correct? And is it just one pitcher or is it all the pitchers on the team when they are pitching?

Poor Mike having to play ball. Ping is down in Florida without him. But he did go see him before he left.

If you remember Spring Fling was just moved from Memphis to Middle Tennessee because there are alot of venues to host these events and because of the travel from East Tennessee. The high schools that were used for the baseball tournament all were top notch and MTSC's baseball field was excellent. Although talking to parents of girls in the softball tournament their park left something to be desired. Another problem is that the State Tournaments are just before Graduation. In fact as I recall a few years ago there were some players who couldn't attend their Gradustion because they were playing in the State Tournament.

First I don't think they have a scholarship for him. Then besides being behind Price and the other upperclassmen, he would be behind Minor, Goodenow, and I can't remember the name of the other All State pitcher they picked up last year. I know Minor is already spot starting for them and is doing very well. Hayes throws hard but if Coach Corbin didn't recruit him before I don't see why he would now. And I don't see why he would try to walk on at $40K a year.

Well if it works for him more power to him. I've seen some pretty good pitchers who wouldn't do that. It might be better to go 50 or less everyother day.

Its been my experience that scrimmages and preseason tournaments don't tell you much.

I like Forrest's underdog statis again. It works for me. Considering they are the defending State Champions and are probably deeper and better than last year I would be a little reluctent to count them out.

As I recall Drew Hayes took a football scholarship at Bethal I think. Vanderbilt is loaded so they won't be looking for Drew Hayes.

What are you talking about? Mikey was fine. He pitched in his normal rotation with Skelly and Burkett. The Championship game was decided on two unearned runs and Forrests inablity to adjust to Drew Hayes high outside fastball. Give Hayes credit. They gave him the outside corner and he used it. As I recall the hits were even at four. And if anybody is interested Mikey threw a shutout against Auston Pea the other day. And in regards to the Rockets. They lost 8 seniors. They have good players coming up but I have know idea how they will do.

Just from what I remember from late last year I would say MTCS and Cascade will be tough this year.

And leading 3/4 of the game gets them what?

...... i would aslo like to say to all of those who thought forrest would blow us ut.....THEY KNEW WE WERE THE BETTER TEAM WHEN WE LEFT SATURDAY NIGHT!!! to the person who made a comment about #10, he led the team at forrest with 19 points and d-ed up with the region mvp and held him for 11 pts..... well see how white matches up to the people they play;) Blaine Lewis Irishfan70 I understand your frustration. For three quarters last night, probably more like three and a half quarters Houston Co. was the better team. But they let Forrest hang around 10 pts down until Forrest finally started to light it up. You knew sometime during the game it was going to happen. It happened for Houston Co. in the first half. It was a well played game on Houston Co's part. Nothing to be ashamed of. Hopefully Forrest will start finding the basket again and START REBOUNDING!

Can they entertain offers as juniors? We have seen alot of recruiting at Forrest the last few years in alot of sports and I don't remember anyone getting an offer as a junior.

He has good size and if he plays as you say a D1 could take him and move him to guard. Remember there are alot of D1 programs we don't know about.
