  1. The reason it is the clinic bowl is the money raised goe sto vanderbilt rehabilitation clinic...i believe the motto is "strong legs run so weak legs can walk." Also, the games are on saturday because there are only three and so that they will not conflict with school work and the D-I playoffs...
  2. A Byrne 49, SBEC 28 AA BGA 13-3 AAA MBA 27-17 Should be two excellent games in AA and AAA tonight!
  3. I would like to disagree with you. Playing in the state championship when it is "old-hat" is much more of a positive than it is a negative... I think today's game should be one-heck of a game...I think BGA wins--simply because they have been to the state champ. game for three years stright...there are no jitters, no marveling at the locker rooms or the field...its just another game to them, yet it isn't just another game. BGA by 10...Score is not as close as the game will be played- BGA gets two big breaks on KC turnovers... Good luck to both teams...
  4. That is really good news...Look forward to seeing him back on the Central sidelines next season!
  5. Praying for the coach...Any updates?
  6. The answer is no and yes. It will be televised online through SparkCast and will have the Clinic Bowl Network's audio track. There will also be a free live audio stream via TSSAA.org and CoachT.Com. This should be a really awesome game. To tell you the truth, the AA and AAA games may be the most hotly contested state titles in Tennessee. This game pits two schools with no love lost between them and it should be a dogfight. MBA 17, BA 16 I am so jealous of commish and reb for getting the chance to call this game.
  7. Congrats to both BA and MBA. It ain't easy in the AAA classification in Division II. Should be an awesome game- MBA is mad and wants revenge and BA has something to prove after last year's Clinic Bowl. Those put together are a formula for a classic game. I was tearing down those posts in spirit, titans... still root for vandy when they aren't playing the Vols!

    TSSAA Award

The A.F. Bridges Award is a very serious one...I believe Gary Smith at BGA also recieved the AF BRidges award as well according to sources back home...It is a serious award and I am sure thatthe coach in question in your thread has done everything possible to rectify the problem...
  9. Pujo and Beethoven...I am so glad that y'all have all of the inside information. It certainly makes us all feel good knowing that y'all have all of the answers... Guys, you can talk about coaches pay, or whatever you like, but the fact is: PAYING A COACH MORE IS NOT WRONG, ILLEGAL, OR EVEN AN ADVANTAGE ON THE FIELD...
  10. I'd take Hume-Fogg over a couple of those schools. Then you'd be crazy Stan...
  11. My bad... Add BA (cringe) in there with them
  12. wildcatfan...I have to disagree with you at least to an extent. Private schools do offer excellent environments (at least most of them do), but that doesn`t mean you get what you pay for. Just because mommy and daddy can afford (or borrow) to send little Johnny to private school does not mean he is getting better educated. I went to a private high school and can attest to this fact. If you are into sayings...ie "you get what you pay for", then try this one...."You can lead a horse to water". It may make parent`s feel like they have accomplished something, but in reality they probably could have sent their kids to a public school and they would have been just as well off. It`s true that private schools might eliminate a lot of the public school distractions, but that`s really about it. Private schools can`t educate any better than public schools. In the end it is up to the student. In my company I hire laborers, but if I had to hire management level people, I`d look for people who succeeded at public schools. They had more obstacles to overcome than those at private schools. Saying things like...."Private schools offer a better education" is IMO part of the problem. Because there are a lot of people out there that would love to have the resources to send their kids to a private school. Mind you I didn`t say "send them to a private school", but to have the resources. Here lies a lot of the problems. Money is how many people like to judge one another. It`s very sad but it is true. Who wouldn`t like to be very wealthy and be able to fly somewhere on a whim? That`s a very sad note in itself, because money cannot buy happiness. Yet our society seems to say that money makes you successful. There never was a problem until some privates started doing well. Now jealousy has reared it`s ugly head. Even though history has shown that programs usually run in cycles, public schools don`t like looking at the nice private campus across town and deal with getting beat by them at the same time. Well I`m here to say the King is wearing no clothes. Private school kids are no different than public school kids. PERIOD! They may have more percieved opportunities than public school kids but they are no different. I spent the day at Greenfield high school today and watched as kids went back and forth and was reminded of my high school days at a private school. Other than being in Greenfield you wouldn`t be able to tell the difference from then and today. It was just another small school where the kids enjoyed friendships and everyone knew everybody. Somewhere along the line though we have sent the message that kids that go to 1A private are better than those that go to 1A public and this is just not true!!! This is one reason I vigorously oppose a split. What message are we sending these kids by proposing a split? Well it`s definitely two different messages. To the private school kids you are ingraining in them that they must be more special than the public school kids. To the public school kids we are telling them that the private school kids are a little better than you. Well today at Greenfield I saw myself walking across that campus. A split forever locks us into a society that grades private school kids on a higher plane than public school kids. One final note...when my daughter`s public middle school soccer team played in the city championship against my old school (USJ) I found it hard to repress thought`s that those USJ girls just had it easy and things were just handed to them and I wanted us to win even more. I know better. But yet somehow it`s easy to think that these girl`s, because they go to a private school, have advantages. But then I look around and I know a lot of these USJ girls. I know their parents. I also know that just because their parents chose to send them to a private school, that it doesn`t make them better soccer players than the girls on my daughters team. When I held chains at USJ`s games and heard kids from Lake County`s team saying those guys think they are better than everybody else. I thought how sad. Here was a school that was a few years removed from being a state runner up(they knocked out USJ in the playoffs that year after USJ was a state runner up the year before) and they enter this game thinking that the USJ kids somehow thought they were better than them. That`s sad that society has done this. That`s why a split is wrong. It further perpetuates this myth. Private education is no better than public school. Private kids are no better athletes. That Lake County team was loaded with them. We don`t need to validate preconcieved notions by splitting public and private. I have to disagree with you. For one, the overall quality of an education is better if you have reserched the schools properly. If you are attending a private school and getting the same education you could down the road, you are wating your money. At schools like BGA, MBA, FRA, CPA etc. the education is leaps and bounds better than the government alternative. If you are going to tell me that McGavock is on the same level academically as BGA, then you are off of your rocker. The private schools that are worthy of the money are better. Now, is tougher school an athletic advantage? The answer is mixed in my opinion. Harder classes means that you wil have a smarter group as a whole, and therefore they may think through problems on the field a little bit better. It also works against them too, since the kids are always worrying about assignments that are coming up (bug papers, huge tests) and having to take time away from sports to make sure that their studies are in order. You make a good point, and some schools do not offer anything more than the opportunity to burn $10,000 easily each year.
  13. Stan, independent in education only. Competition is competition in sports whether the kids attends apublic or a private school.
  14. That is after expenses for personell on site, referees, etc...
  15. Private schools offer a better education. Period. The old saying goes something like this..."You get what you pay for..." and it holds true when it comes to education. Some people are able to to get more than what they paid for out of the public school they attended, but I guarantee it took a lot more work than the average student and it wasn't pressured by the teacher. At a private school, kids are pressured to do well or face the consequences. No one left behind because everyone admitted can, in fact, cut the mustard. Also, things become better with time- schools like BGA and MBA have been around for over one-hundred years...and that means that they must be doing something better than the government alternative or else they wouldn't be here. Those are two of many historically sound institutions...ones which have been offering a premium product. I think that there is a slight element of class warfare in this- there is a lot of jealousy that is playing out in this debate. If you don't believe there is jealousy, Stan, then you are perhaps more blind than Stevie Wonder. WesVols had a very good point earlier, Stan. I think you were the one taking the cheap shots.
  16. they have about an eight hour drive ahead of them
  17. I don't doubt that at all, ELA! I think BGA ought to be in D-II AAA right now, as a matter of fact. You are right on- It's all about competition.
  18. At least you're honest about it . I wish BGA would play more schools like MBA- I really wish they would play Franklin and Brentwood. Might not win, but it sure would be fun.
  19. At least you're honest about it . I wish BGA would play more schools like MBA- I really wish they would play Franklin and Brentwood. Might not win, but it sure would be fun.
  20. That's a terrible idea, it would still be too hard for some schools to win it! Here's an easier one: Just send everyone a golden ball at the beginning of the season and crown every school in the state a "Champion" so that everyone can feel like a winner no matter how bad they are...then, let all the teams that are even better than the 300 state champions play for a super-duper state championship... How about this: No classification over three teams- that way each team has a 1 in 3 shot at the golden ball! In all seriousness, winning used to mean something and now society has made winning an equal-opportunity experience- meaning that "everyone should win at some point, no matter if you deserve it or not."
  21. I know Harding has really improved- that's for sure! They gave BGA all they wanted my senior year! I still think that each team left in AA has an even shot.
  22. I wouldn't disagree with that. You guys will give MBA a good run in the Clinic Bowl. Anyone's game...
  23. MUS did make a furious comeback. They were better than their record showed. Much better with Rob Park (#10) in at QB... McCallie will have to play much better than they did last night if they want to beat an angry MBA... BTW- the McCallie/MUS game will be posted in the next day or so on the game of the week page...
