  1. It's interesting the Sidetrain keeps saying "your" Viqueens and his daughter plays for the Community Junior High Team.
  2. It's very easy to sit in the stands and second-guess the coach. She may have a reason for this strategy that you don't have a clue about!!!
  3. Pitching! Pitching! Pitching! If you don't have the STRONG pitching, you may win some games, but you will not be a real contender in the District. I AM NOT PUTTING DOWN THEIR PITCHER. I am sure she is doing all she can do, but when other programs (i.e. Forrest, Richland, Huntland, etc.) are fielding pitchers who throw at 55 plus and have been pitching fastpitch for years, and they have the backup just as adequate, it's not reasonable to expect teams with slow pitch to be winning a lot of games. Yes, you can be competitive, but the game comes down to the pitching and catching, just like in baseball. I've been a coach with an adequate pitcher, so I KNOW. Lack of pitching feeder programs hurts many of the teams in District 11A, and those teams will always have a very difficult time "getting over the hump" until those feeder programs begin providing girls who have started playing FASTPITCH, not Slowpitch, from an early age, and continue to really work at it throughout their later years. A coach who gets players just beginning in the 8th or 9th grade is going to play "catch up" for several years, and the only way they will make any headway is if the GIRLS are committed to getting better which means a lot of work ON THEIR OWN in the off season. So, Moore County Coach, good luck! I have seen your teams the last couple of seasons, and I think you have done remarkably well with the talent you have. They will improve if THEY want it. It appears to me that you are doing all you can do to help.
  4. The only parking at Unionville is NOT only next to the gym. There is plenty as you round the building at the front. Granted, you will have to walk farther than a few feet, but it IS sufficient.
  5. Unionville did not have all their players at camp. 2 starters were out all summer with injuries, and several of the upper classmen also were not there. You are talking about a whole different mix of kids for the season. They had an off night against Cascade, but they still have several good players and should improve, so don't count them out.
  6. Don't take anything away from Community. Their defense was great against a much larger team.
  7. I didn't make the Huntland/Cascade game. How did Cascade win without Laura Bunn playing?
  8. Cascade beat Huntland last week
  9. I am NOT taking anything away from Cascade, but is no one taking into consideration that Cascade will be playing without at least one of their key players from last year. I am not saying they will not be a decent team, but I do think there will have to be an impact with Laura Bunn no longer on the team.
  10. Ashleigh Newman (Shelbyville) to Maryland Alex Fuller (Shelbyville) to UT
  11. Huntland should be very tough. The rest of the pack could be a total toss-up.This could be one of those years when the district title will be determined by pure guts because there is no clear head of the pack. Any team could beat any other team on any particular night.
  12. Community High School in Unionville may need softball coach. Very small rural school. single A

  14. Backoff: For the Money? I KNOW you are either joking or being sarcastic. Right?
  15. Killer: I have to disagree. A bad call can come at a crucial time and DEFINATELY cost a game--much more so than in other sports.
  16. Who won the Miss Basketball titles?
  17. Shelbyville by 15, and I'm NOT a Shelbyville fan, just an educated basketball spectator.
  18. Cortney Brothers of Unionville

I have but one plea for refs. Please be consistent!!! A prime example was Wednesday's games. The calling would be very loose in the first half, but then the second half began with every "touch" foal called. As a coach, I have no problem with it called either way--just let me know, so we can adjust and then continue to call the entire game the same way. And in their defence, it IS much easier to see from the stands. I do understand that, but please just be consistent.
  20. Private instruction is fine BUT I find that most of the time, that private instruction may not take into consideration that the other players on a team may not have had the same advantage and the COACH may need that privately tutored player to adjust to the other talent (or lack of it). So, my comment is LET THE COACH COACH!!! The coach is the only one responsible for the progress or lack of it for the team, and second guessing him or her without being there everyday to see what he is facing is not very fair. On the other side, there is never any excuse for a coach to swear at a player or show tacky behavior, but some kids only respond to a raised voice.
  21. Softball2004: Because Unionville doesn't have the dedication it takes from its players, especially its upperclass. [Edited by kayjay on 3-4-03 8:27A]
  22. It is common knowledge all across the district that anytime you play Moore County (and it doesn't matter WHO you are), the calls will go for MC. Talk about "flopping", no fish has ever out-flopped Moore County players!! [Edited by kayjay on 2-28-03 10:49A]
