  1. I am looking for anyone who would like to donate their old pole vaults. I am trying to start a pole vaulting program. I will come and pick them up. Please call Coach Brandon Garner @ 865-850-0040
  2. Wow Govdad you just showed you dont know too much about how to handle adversity or football for that matter. It is people like you that make Blount County football second rate behind the city programs and have let our sports society turn in to a instant results. Everybody in the county wants to have a state championship program but all of the fans and parents seem to have their own way and know how to do it instead of supporting the program and coaches. Take some of your energy and put that into the program, maybe half as much as some of the coaches do. If you cant figure that the season was going to be brutal by the timing of the exit of your former head coach, then not giving a new head coach any assistants he wants, then on top of that kids getting in trouble for bad decisions. It's easy being an arm chair QB, the real people that deserve the thanks are the coaches and the kids that put in the hard work. If you wanted to be a coach you should have went to school and built your resume.
  3. I know for a fact Heritage beat Maryville twice in a row. In 99 they beat them and it was controversial because of a ref's personal foul call. In 2000 Heritage blew em out with a 28-0 whooping, the same year they started 0-4.
  4. Dont worry it will happen soon. You never know here in 10 or 15 years Alcoa fans might be debating whether they should be playing a in county 6A team like WB or Heritage. Things change and programs go through cycles. This is good to debate but there is no need to call any of the county kids cowards. If they had their choice I am sure they would love to play Alcoa every year. For some reason a few chose to make the decision for many. Alcoa fans need to also understand that Heritage and WB probably have the top two toughest schedules in the state right now also. Region 2-5A is very physical and unforgiving. It is very tough to play a 5A schedule...most of you are right that Alcoa could step up to 5A and beat many of those teams WB and Heritage play. But the week in and week out beating woud take a huge toll. After you play Maryville you would turn around and go through Farragut, Oak Ridge, Ooltewah and a much improved Soddy-Daisy and McMinn then have some desert with DB if there are not a ton of injuries by then....you get my point. The bottom line is both administrations have their own ideas on how to make their athletic program better and that is what they have chose to do. I know this rivalry will get back together soon. Everybody needs to try to make it work and get involved and start talking to the right people and quit pointing fingers which is just going to drive a wedge between the county and city programs.
  5. Darren Garner from William Blount. 1600+ yards rushing, 500+ recieving, KOR yards-? as a Junior. Only needs to pack on more pounds to his 170 pound frame....speed is legit with 4.41 40 yard dash. Heard Marshall has their eye on him after recruiting his teammate Whitehead. Anybody else heard anything?
  6. Not any mention of the Garner kid from William Blount. I think he had around 1,600 yards rushing and 500 recieving as a Junior. His size might hurt him though only being 5'10 175 but I know his forty yard dash is at least a 4.4 or lower. Anybody heard if any colleges are looking at him.
  7. I went to the DB-WB and was not impressed with WB and I also attended Ooltewah vs. Whites Creek and was impressed with Ooltewah. Peoples been talking bout WB and how good they are but I they havnt showed me nothing yet. Personally I think Ooltewah is tougher and will out hit the Govs from what Ive seen. WB's O-Line looks big but they are soft and not aggressive.....Ooltewah's D-line should dominate in that aspect #36 is gonna have a hay day. The other thing I noticed was the size of Ooltewahs O-line. I think they should also dominate the Govs front seven. Brian Marshall is gonna carve up WB's lackluster defense. WB has not faced a quality team yet and I dont think they are all theyve been made out to be. I look for the Owls to out-hit and out-run the Govs to a win. 31 Owls 14 WB
  8. I heard their running a new offense this year. is that coming...did they go to the wing-t or what?
  9. He decided to wear black and red because he said he felt no support from WB...thats the sole reason.
  10. I had heard the dad wont be back ever again. I heard the decision was made by the head coach.....must have been hard.
  11. The Govs havnt played anyone yet and Friday they will come to the nest and get dominated. WB's defense is soft and Brian Marshall will have a huge game. WB's offense is also weak, their lineman do not stay on their blocks and Ooltewah swarms to the football. Mentally the Govs are not nearly as tough as the Owls and I look for the Owls to out hit them in every facet of the game. WB will be lucky to keep it close. My prediction is Ooltewah 28 WB 3
  12. WB will be fine this year....there offense was lacking in the scrimmage and that is expected when you have to bring along some young quarterbacks.....look for this team to improve and be at full stride about the 3rd game of the season. These next couple WB teams have good kids and they will be good for the next couple of years without a doubt. I think kids are finally starting to believe that their head coach will stay longer than two years and the kids that are in the county system that have been transferring to Maryville and other schools are finally starting to stay at home and play. This will be evident in the next couple years.
  13. I think the Carter kid transfered ...anyways...scrimmage was decent ...both teams looked about as good as you can look with one week of practice. WB's offense hasnt come together yet but that is expected when you lose your whole backfield. Once they gel.....look out. This WB will grow leaps and bounds before their first game.
  14. Someone said Maryville is on the bubble to move up to 5A..is there any truth to this
  15. Yes I am pretty sure the schedule is the same as last year...obviously just flip it and you have this years schedule. A couple notes on the team next year....many people feel that the team will be better this year than last year because this years team will be more of a team and not have the individual stars that they had last year. Some people feel some of the individual stars were looking out for personal stats instead of the team. They return a veteran defense and a veteran offensive line. The main concern is at the running back and quarterback position. There is a handful of runningbacks that will step up as hard-nosed runners and will block for each other. At quarterback the job will probably be between an upcoming sophomore(Garner) and a upcoming junior(Vineyard). The upcoming sophomore is quick, fast (4.65-40 yd dash), and has a good arm but lacks valuable varsity level experience. The upcoming Junior is more of a pocket passer and has some varsity level experience. Either one will be playing behind a good line. The key will be the running game.....can the line provide a consistent running game and not put too much pressure on the young qb's early in the year. If they establish a running game and pass when they have to.....slowly building the qb's confidence then WB looks to be better than last years team. This along with the region being wide open has forced high expectations on this next govenor team.
  16. When William Blount and Heritage dropped Alcoa off their schedule all the students and everybody said ooo WB and Heritage are scared to play Alcoa....thats simply false why would they be scared to play Alcoa when they have to play Oak Ridge..Maryville..and Ooltewah..theres no fear involved. Plus out of the last 10 years I think WB might have beat Alcoa more than Alcoa has beat WB...Im not sure on the facts but its probably 5-5 or 6-4 in favor of WB. Anyways they dropped them because WB had to do what was best for WB, not what was best for the fans, county, or whoever. There was nothing to gain from playing a 2A Alcoa. If you beat em...people say you are suppose to ..and if you lose then oh you got beat by a 2A team. The decision was made after WB had played 7 ranked opponents in a row, not many teams could handle that kind of scheduling. On top of that they were coming off a coaching change(4 coaches in 4 years) and the program has to start somewhere to get its feet under them. You people can say what you want but WB had to do what was best for WB and you need to remember what both county schools go through. I dont know if Maryville or Alcoa could improve after having 4 coaches in 4 years and nothing was said about it until the 4th year when finally the daily times wrote an article about it. Its amazing that they have been able to make the playoffs 3 out of 4 of those years. Not many schools would be able to do that.
  17. Hey ...how bout your cross-town rival William Blount
  18. Hey to burst anyones bubble but Spencer is not going to be a D-1 college runningback. I played football in high school and college and have seen better runningbacks at the D-II level. You can get mad if you want, he is an awesome player but all I can say is just wait and see where he goes after high school and what he does. My prediction is D-1AA or lower and hopefully playing time by his 2nd year in college depending on how high he goes. Just wait and watch.
  19. I think the best game I have ever seen was the William Blount-Dobyns Bennett game in 2001. William Blount went up there and knocked off the #2 ranked team in the state at Dobyns-Bennett's home field. Reese McMahan led the charge with an incredible performance that had DB fans saying good things about him for a couple years. Too bad he injured his soldier on one of the last plays of the game or I think WB probably would have reached the 4th round of the playoffs and then would have had to play Riverdale...that game probably wouldnt have went the Govs way but still that was one of the best teams in WB's history that just had some really bad luck with injuries.
  20. I guess what he meant when he said that the talent of Maryville and Ooltewah are similar....he was refering to this year not any of the past years. I do agree that Maryvilles talent and Ooltewahs are comparable. I would even go and say that Ooltewahs running backs as individuals are more talented. But theres something that sets Maryville apart, its called confidence and belief. They know there going to win when the game is tight and that is what seperates them. I think it is going to be a great game Friday night if both teams come out and genuinely believe in their heart that they can win. When you get two teams like that.....its gonna be a war.
  21. All you WB fans out there..one of your players is up for player of the week on the wbir website(Ronald Osbourne). Get on there and vote for him and you Maryville fans that would like to support Blount County do it too. Here is the link and you can vote multiple times. http://www.wbir.com/prepextra/pow_offense.aspx
  22. Both backfields are extremely fast. I know Brad Walker was clocked in the 100 at 10.8 or below as a sophmore too and hes a Senior now. Im pretty sure he ran his forty yard dash in 4.4 this year and Ronald Osbourne was right there at a low 4.5 and sometimes a high 4.4. The other running back Aaron Keener is a low 4.6 to high 4.5. Thats three guys at about 4.62 and below. Hard to beat.
  23. Thanks dmoyers for the encouraging comment. haha Well you might think I have but I know different. We could argue till were blue in the face but we just wont know till the jump up there here in the next five years. I promise you this, it is going to truly test the Red Rebels.
  24. I wonder what will happen to Maryville when they move up to 5A in a couple year. Their enrollment has been increasing and I see them making the jump in a couple years. In my opinion yes Maryville is a awesome 4A team but in 5A I am sure they will not win state like they have been. Depending on what region they play in they could lose at least 2 games in the regular season. I am talking about the region that William Blount is in, that region is loaded. I could see Maryville maybe getting beat by Soddy or Ooltewah and going back and forth between Oak Ridge and them. But even these teams are still not the cream of the crop in 5A. If Maryville made it into the playoffs they would probably run into a team out of Nashville(Riverdale, Franklin, Hendersonville) that simply dwarfs them population wise. Its just a fact of numbers. I know Maryville fans will be like nah we will do the same in 5A. Just trust me I have played high school football in 5A and went on to play college football for four years. 5A is a different ball of wax with some very athletic and huge teams coming out of Tennessee bigger cities(Nashville, Memphis).
