  1. Just got back from the scene of the crime...a bludgenoning by the Red Devils. I think they could have scored 35 if they needed to. If they can continue to get better, the sky is the limit for these boys.
  2. i don't believe in talking smack/trash or whatever, but here is how I see it. I'm not a Jo Byrns fan but I've seen them play several times this year. Their first defense has give up 21 points this season, and only one team has been able to drive the field and score on a sustained drive. The other 14 points came after big plays. One last week when Huntland had about a 50-60 yard run and then had to throw a halfback pass on 4th and 8 to finally score. I understand that Collinwood runs the wing-t and tries to have long time consuming drives to put points on the board. That will be very difficult against JB defense. Also, JB has 7 big play makers that can take it the distance on any play. You have to stop #7,21,34,1,45,2, and 33 on every play. That may sound a little far fetched, but that is why JB is rankd so high. For a single A team they have too many weapons. Anyway, if Collionwood can sustain drives to score and stop these guys all night, they absolutely will deserve to win. Good luck to both teams!
  3. This same quote was in the Tennessean on Saturday. After a great game between two excellent teams, I would hope a coach could give some credit or talk about breakdows in the game or something better than a threat. I think this quote shows a lack of class and a lot of disrespect. I also don't understand the author stating that Jo Byrns use a little "slieght of hand" in the first half. I was at the game and I saw JB march up and down the field in the first half doing whatever they wanted. If not for a couple of mistakes and offensive breakdowns, the score could have easily been 30-0 at half.
  4. Bobcat field is one of the best high school fields/atmospheres around. Both sets of bleachers are right on top of the field. Seriously, there is about 10 feet of sideline space on both sides. Puts you up close and personal to the action. And believe me, you can almost feel the BIG HITS from the stands. The Greenbrier locals will back their trucks up to the field on the visitor side and pull out their lawn chairs. The fence will be packed with people standing from end zone to end zone. The playing surface is immaculate. It rivals most collegs playing surfaces. The coaching staff must spend an unbelievable amount of time and money on the playing surface. You can't help but appreciate it when you see it. I've been to a few games there and can't wait for friday night. Also, I heard that Greembrier may dress as many as 85-90 players this year. With the limited space on the sideline, these players will line up single file on the sideline. From the visitor bleachers, it looks like soldiers lining up to do battle. Very intimidating. Get there early to 1) get a seat, and 2) enjoy the atmosphere. If you are looking for a good place to go on Week 0 come out to Greenbrier. Now for predictions: It will be a close game. Tate will score on a big play sometime during the game. The difference will be the fourth quarter. In a hot, early season game, conditioning will be a factor. I think GB wll be within striking distance late in the game. The game will be decided with GB making one of their patented long drives and either JPII defense will hold deep or GB will finish the drive to win the game late.
  5. Andrews is the best pure shooter I have ever seen at the middle/junior high level. He did only have 12 points and no 3 point baskets through 3 quarters today, and he did hit two late (meaningless) 3's in the last 38 seconds after the game was decided. He is a great talent, but you have to give WMS credit for containing him for three plus quarters. I was very impressed with WMS's defensive game plan by putting a chaser on Andrews and giving some type of 4 man zone look to the rest of the team. They did switch two different players on Andrews throughout the game, and they both did an admirable job in keeping him from getting on scoring binges. I think it was Barnett #22 and Austin Rice #12. I was wondering why Liberty did not try some type of different offensive set beides the high ball screen at the top of the key. Congratultions to WMS for great tournament and champoinship in Murfreesboro and good luck in the TNT. P.S. In rebuttle to the comment about the student problem with the noise maker, I would like to hear your comments on the four adult individuals who were escorted out of the gym during the third quarter. I assume they are Liberty fans.

    Greenbrier?

I've seen several Greenbrier games the past two year and I think that Kyle herndon may be a better overall athlete than Roger. But he is not a better running back...yet. Has to prove it like anyone else. As for Greenbrier, remember this... the juniors and seniors on this team have played 29 football games over the past two years under an unbelievable coaching staff. That means almost 10 extra weeks of practice and games against the best competition in the state. The young players are not young anymore, they are really veterans waiting for a shot. I think you will see classic Greenbrier football this year with low scores and opportunity to win every game. Don't forget about #12 in the backfield, I think his name is Dill. He racked up impressive yards against good teams last year ( White House, Fulton).
  7. This thread originally asked for Grenbrier players other than Herndon that make an impact. Here are my two cents... Anyone wearing a jersey # 50 something. # 50 Daniel Pryne- guard/LB - if Ernest Williams cuts back, He'll meet Pryne #51 Trevor Dickerson- Center/MLB - this guy stands between the hash marks and gets it done all night, he's a major reason Greenbrier had two 1000 yard rushers last year and Herndon has about 1800 this year # 52 Nick Brown- G/DE - tough to stop when he's 100% # 55 and 66 Twin Brothers Curtis and Don Scott - open holes for the offense all season... you just think your seeing double #56 Duncan Williams- DT- you can't miss this monster, when he stands on one side of the Earth, the tides change #57 Dustin Cole- DE - again, tough on D when 100% #59 - Perry Osborne- I think he led the county in sacks this year There are others, but these player stood out in the few games I've seen.
  8. Two stars from Robertson Co. : Carlos Hudson from East Rob.... 156 attempts fot 1348 and 13 touchdowns and Roger Herndon at Greenbrier... 166 attempts for 1455 yards and 19 touchdowns. Great job guys.
  9. I saw Springfield play a couple of weeks ago. they have some of the best individual talent of any team I've seen in the midstate this year. That may be part of the problem...too many individuals not playing as a team. Anyone who knows football knows that teams are made in the off season. the coaching change hasn't helped, but give Coach Offut a year or two. If the kids buy into his program, work hard in the off season and play as a team, you'll hear from them very soon. They have LOTS of young talent on the team. Rico Collier returning will help too!
  10. Haven't seen Wayne Co. play yet, but I can't wait. Great job Coach Crews, looks like you have the program moving in the right direction. Looking forward to you all taking on some private schools in the playoffs. Good Luck the rest of the season!
  11. I think everyone is too worried about this "streak". High school kids don't worry about things that happened 20 or 10 or 5 years ago, or things that happened 2 months ago. I haven't seen WH play this year, but I'm sure, again, they are well coached and prepared. Greenbrier is not the same team that played Lipscomb. They are playing better on both sides of the ball. The offense has moved the ball every game. the defense has stiffened ( made enormous gains during the off week). For GB to win, they must play better in special teams and get pressure on the WH QB. Herndon will get his yards, but the other players will be the key to winning this game.
  12. I think you may see 1 of 2 things... A repeat of many of last year's games where Greenbrier grinds it out and wins in the 4th quarter. They did that a lot against athletic teams. Careful though, greenbrier must play well in special teams. A team with great team speed can break one open late in the game when players are tired. If Greenbrier is gonna win in the 4th watch: #10, #16, #51, and #52. These are a few the guys who will get it done and the other players will follow them to the victory.
  13. I know Crockett County won in the fourth quarter last week. But, you have to look at Greenbrier this season: beat Springfield in the fourth, Giles County in the fourth, Page in the fourth. On a wet field, speed is lost, strength and power football will prevail. The Grenbrier kids seem to get stronger as the game wears on. With this in mind, Greenbrier 28 Crockett County-17.
