  1. If it was at Fayette....maybe, but at Bruceton against Willis is just too much.
  2. "open up a can" lol I haven't heard that phrase in a while. I will see you at the "Rock" next Friday. It should be a war if we both take care of business. I assume you guys will be on your best behavior since I'm driving all the way from Memphis to see the Bruins. Go easy.
  3. Good story East lost 33-14 and was not that fast...Anyway this is week 2 so worry about your business in OrangeMound and we will deal with Powell. you meant " your bidness in OrangeMound "
  4. I thought that might stir a little interest. I think it will be great if they do play. Melrose has played a very tough schedule this year beating MUS, CBHS, and East. I'm not a Melrose fan, but they are far better this year than last.
  5. Just a little bait to see if the Rebs would nibble. If you are as good as you say, they should be no problem, but if you thought Memphis East was fast just wait 'til you see the Golden Wildcats. They throw the ball a little, as the 'ol ball coach would say. At 7-4, my Vols miss Stevie boy. [Edited by pitw on 11-11-02 11:37P] [Edited by pitw on 11-26-02 6:59P]
  6. Good picks. I can't wait for G'Town to play the Middle Tennessee schools. No offense to JCM, as I am former Jacksonian, but sans Brooks, they don't have the horses to run with the Red Devils next week. Just a little FYI for those who don't know, CBHS and Germantown renew the rivalry next year. So much for the publics avoiding the privates....

    1a round 2 predictions

Didn't Fishers kid take a pick the distance against Ezell. They must not be too slow................
  8. The Bruins cruise 24 - 7, then on to Hollow Rock for the right to host "the team formerly known as The State Champs." JCS is a class act though.
  9. off 19-14 revenge from last year, CPA wins 24-21. CPA has played the tougher schedule, however, like Willis at Bruceton, Ward can singlehandedly take over. It will be a great game.
  10. CPA beats Collinwood in a thriller. Classic example of a tough schedule paying off. CPA 24-21.
  11. Just give everybody a State Championship so everyone will stop whining.
  12. I agree. If they want us, they will know where to find us....playing the best competition in the state. Isn't that the way it's supposed to work. You cannot legislate winning....or whining.
  13. As I have stated earlier, DII AA will be the most competitive in the state.
  14. Not to stir the pot, but in a case where their are two public schools inside a county like say..... Gibson County, how can one be so much better than the other. Gibson Co is 0-10 and Milan is 10-1. How can that be if there is no recruiting going on? Are the city players just that much better?? I believe the answer is that Milan is a dominant, established program, and many of the good players in Gibson county chose to go there without any help from Milan. This is what I call PASSIVE recruiting. We can talk about financial aid all you want, but the players are going to go where the teams are good. USJ currently provides no financial aid but they are still getting a lot better athletes today than they had in the late 80's and early 90's. That because Marley has built a solid program that kids want to play for. The new split will do nothing to fix this. [Edited by pitw on 11-11-02 12:04A] [Edited by pitw on 11-11-02 9:00A]

    1a round 2 predictions

USJ put 20 up on CPA in round one in the 20-10 W. The games against Bruceton and Fayette Academy, they were breaking in a new QB. It should be interesting to see how things play out if USJ gets by JCS this week. I think USJ has a better D than either Fayette or Bruceton, but the offense can disappear at times. The bottom line is that Bruceton will go as far as Patrick Willis can take them and considering they get the entire playoffs at home, that could be a long way. not to ramble, but it would be interesting to see what Bruceton would do at home against Ezell. They have stuggled on the road against quality teams (if you call 16-7 over CPA stuggling). That was just across town though. Bruceton is a pit to play in.
  16. Will be there in 2 weeks (hopefully) to see the Bruins take on the Tigers. Is it as we left it when I played against them in the late 80's? The visitors locker room were at the time the worst I have ever seen and the grass was always cut about 5 inches high. Should be a great game as usual. Does the whole town still come out for the games?
  17. Fort Lauderdale, FLA - Isn't it ridiculous how many great players are from FLorida?? How did the tigers land him anyway??
  18. Cedrick Wilson - Melrose - UT- Niners Cleditius Hunt (had huge game last monday Night) - Whitehaven - Kentucky State - Packers Bubba Miller - BA - UT - Eagles Travis Stephens - Clarksville Academy - UT - Bucs Scott Galyon (yes, he's still playing) - East Tenn guy - UT- Dolphins Fernando Bryant - Murfreesboro - Bama - Jags Andre Lott - Melrose - Ut- Skins Steve White - Memphis - UT - Jets tony williams - Germantown - Bungals, i mean bengals Marcus Bell - Memphis (memphis is a recurring theme here)-Memphis - Cards John Henderson - Pearl Cohn - Ut - Jags Phillip Crosby - Bean station (I love that)- Ut - Bills Jeff gooch - Nashville - ??? college - Lions Mike caldwell- Oak Ridge -Bears Chad Pennington -Knoxville - Jets Karon coleman - Missouri City - Broncos Brent Alexander - Gallatin - THE Pittsburgh Steelers and last and least ( i always hated him at Bama ) Jason McAddley -Oak Ridge - Cards I bet that's more than you thought.

    Congrats JCS

How did JCS fare the 1st go round with the Bruins. The score would indicate the USJ defense dominated with the offense just so-so as usual.
  20. BA's Carlton Flatt. The record speaks for itself.
  21. This is the wrong board for this, but it's the other way around - Maryville, Hillsboro etc won't play the "7" because of the recruiting issue. That's why they aren't in Division I anymore, because the publics don't want to play them. Ezell is a different story being private, but they wouldn't play BA for the same reason USJ wouldn't play JCM in Jackson - they would be overmatched. Do you really believe Carlton Flatt is afraid to play anyone?
  22. after attaining the #1 Single A ranking, Ezell has decided there is no serious competition left in 1A and is moving to the Super 7...... where they will promptly go 4-6.
  23. Ezell.....At Collinwood.......At USJ/Bruceton winner......then Cloudland/Boyd winner in the finals. That's difficult, but they still probably win easily. That was basically the same road as last year, but the games were at home.
  24. I actually pull for and am alum of a 1A team (USJ). However, I live in Memphis and get to see CBHS and MUS play the others in the "7". I also have seen Memphis Melrose play CBHS. The talent level of Ezell is simply not comparable. Ezell is a solid team, but let's face reality - They would struggle in the Super 7. There is a thread I have started in Public v Private debate that discusses what Division II would look like if the split happens. More than likely CPA,Ezell,DCA,Goodpasture,Lipscomb etc would move to AA in Division II. That, in my opinion, would be the most competitive league in the state - not the best - but most competitive. A good game is not USJ or Ezell beating some patsy 50-0. The reason that all the teams in the "7" are ranked lower is that they all have losses. Why. Well, the reason is that play in the toughest league in the state. Take for example Brentwood Academy - They lost to ST Xavier in Cincy by 1(missed an extra point) St X is one of the top teams in the country. If Ezell is as good you say, then they should dominate when they are in a district with BGA,Goodpasture,Lipscomb, and CPA. Just to be fair, if USJ makes it past Bruceton to the semis, they probably get beat by Ezell by 3 TD's.
  25. That's what I'm saying. None of those schools could consistently compete at the Super 7 level, but would make DII AA one of the most competitive in the state. I would love to see Briarcrest v Goodpasture - Lipscomb v USJ etc. It would eliminate all the blowouts you see in the smaller classes.
