It's just really hard for coaches to get local kids to want to stay close to home. Their best bet is to be prepared for a call on down the line from those kids b/c they are "...too far away and want to come 'back'". Plus, it's not all doom and gloom: It is my understanding that they are getting 2 top notch kids from the 6A Alabama State champion...

The situation will be what you make it. If a coach is motivated to have a two bit program, then they will run it that way. Maybe I should say if the coach lacks motivation to develop a program? And if a coach wants a top notch program, they will run it that way. Coaches should work hard to build a program because they have a passion for it. Not b/c they are getting paid to do so. Anybody getting into coaching for the money has another thing coming... Nevertheless, here have been some very valid points made during this discussion. Bottom line: It all starts at the top!

Perhaps he was interested in learning more about the position. Then when more information was revealed to him, he realized tht he did not want the position afterall. Sometimes that happens. If it isn't him; who's next on the list?

Cookeville is good but they are not great. THAT is why they do not advance any farther.

Fort Payne was a top team in Alabama last season - losing only a few games . FWIW-There are 6 classifications, and I believe Fort Payne is a 5A team. W/them coming to the Classic it will be a good way to gauge where Alabama girls basketball is compared to the neighbor to the north!

I was there and did see what they did. I also noticed that Coach Howard marched right over to the SC bench to shake hands only to notice that his team wasn't in tow. He stomped to the locker room yelling at them. Also, he had them leave their locker room made them go to the SC locker room before he did his post-game speach. It was very unfortunate that this occured after the game but he did take action...

The Greeneville tournament is a quality tournament that combines local teams w/some really strong teams from abroad.

The kid at Ezell would be at the top of my list.

White County has experience but lost a lot w/graduation and players leaving the team. However, they should be a solid contender!
