  1. I don't think kicking is Rockwood's strength this year unless a foreign exchange student came in this week.
  2. It's funny because year after year Maryville doesn't look too good in scrimmages, then they look a college team when the regular season rolls around.
  3. I was there and Oneida looked great, even if CC didn't play their regulars. It's still hard to make it look that easy. I expect a slobberknocker because neither team likes to pass and it will be hard to mount long drives against Lambert's or Jeff Allen's defense. Turnovers, field position and a couple of big plays will determine this one in my opinion.
  4. This one could be sloppy. I know Oneida lost some players from last year and I know Rockwood lost 4 lineman, their starting QB, 3 leading rushers, an all-state TE and no receiver on the squad caught a pass last year. That sounds like a team with no chance, but Coach Webb has done some of his best coaching in those type situations.
  5. Good luck to Kyron and Demarcus. Both seem like really good kids and I wish them the best. I'd like to see Kyron rush for 200 yards a game, although there are definitely games that I hope he walks away with an L despite those great numbers.
  6. And if you really want to liven things up a bit, let whoever wins the regular season title host the tournament. That way every team has an equal opportunity to host the tourney. Might make it a little tougher to put together a program or get t-shirts ready, but I'd love to see a team rewarded for winning the regular season title. To me, the regular season title is tougher to win than the postseason title.
  7. Also do away with satelite games. There's nothing better than watching four games or so on opening day. I also makes it easier for me to cover.
  8. I just want Oneida to host ot more so I can see the camel more often.
  9. I imagine both games Monday will be close. I was really impressed with Grace this week on the defensive end. They move well in that zone and do a great job of closing on shooters. I'd say if they rebound they can beat pretty much anyone because they play solid defense and don't turn it over much. Wartburg needs to play physical. They can run with anyone, but I think at times they're not as physical as they should be. Tonight what made the difference was becoming a physical team on the boards in the second half.
  10. Harriman was up 37-8 at one point. In the words of Jack Buck "I don't believe what I just saw."
  11. I don't think anyone has said that Wartburg isn't good or that the only reason they are successful is that play most of their postseason games at home. I've said numerous times on here that I like Jason because he gets his teams to play hard and peak at the right time. I also know that they did beat Jellico for one of their 17 wins during their postseason run over the past four years. They've also beat Oakdale twice and OS once in satellite games. I just like to use facts during a discussion instead of just throwing stuff out there so I put the top five teams in District 4-A and their record at home, on the road, and a neutral site for their senior classes. I'll admit that I was actually stunned to see that the home team is 28-4 over the past four years in postseason play. In a perfect world, we could play the tournament year at a neutral site such as Roane State or Scott High, but our schools would lose money that way. I would also like to see the tournament rotated like it was for so many years. The only gyms I see that would have a problem with seating would be Coalfield and Oakdale. I also wouldn't have a problem with the No. 1 seed hosting the tourney every year, which wouldn't be a problem since the boys and girls don't play on the same days anymore. Heck, I'd even like to see the days return where the first rounds are played at one site instead of being satellited. I think most fans love those days when you could watch four games in one day.
  12. Look at it how you will but over the past four years. Wartburg's 16-2 at home 0-1 on road 0-2 neutral sites OS 2-0 at home 1-4 on road 3-1 at neutral sites Coalfield 4-0 at home 1-4 on road 3-1 at neutral sites Oneida 3-1 at home 0-2 on road 1-4 at neutral sites Oakdale 2-1 at home 3-6 on road 4-1 at neutral sites. The top 5 teams are 27-4 at home and 5-17 on the road in postseason play.
  13. The semifinals are tonight. Coalfield and Mary Hughes are playing in one game followed by Oakdale vs. Rogersville. I think Mary Hughes is unbeaten this year. The winner of the first game will be the favorite tomorrow.
  14. I was reading through the posts and I agree with you. Shoulda ran on third down and punted on fourth down. Even a punt from shotgun formation that is a line drive there would have gone about 25 yards. Make a team go 90 yards there with 1 time out instead of 65 with two.
  15. It was really Coalfield's line play that was the answer. Coalfield never seemed to be in 3rd and long as they just kept 5-10 yards a carry. Greenback, on the other hand, always seemed to be playing behind the chains. They had a few big plays with a couple of halfback passes and Seymour got loose a couple of imes, but they weren't able to consistently run the ball. Outside of CAK, most teams around here are in trouble if they can't consistently run the ball.
  16. Man Coalfield looked good last night. It was on the verge of a blowout when Coalfield fell asleep when they threw the lateral. Then it seemed Greenback was one fourth down stop away from having a chance to steal it at the end, but Coalfield hit the TD pass to seal the deal on fourth-and-goal.
  17. They need to play this game in Cookeville since it is the state title game.
  18. Well at least when Coalfield plays their big playoff game this year they won't have half the town suspended by TSSAA.. Should be one heck of a game.
  19. I heard the 'Landers are loaded this year.
  20. http://www.roanecounty.com/content/cak-23-kingston-7 Some photos from tonight's game
  21. CAK hit a field goal with 6:12 in the second quarter to make the score 9-0. The next time they touched the ball was the 3:18 mark of the third quarter. That's a span of 14:54. One play that really hurt Kingston was the illegal formation call on third-and-inches at CAK's 35 with eight minutes to go in the game. It was 16-7 at the time and instead of getting a first down at the 31, they turned it over on downs two plays later on fourth and two. If Kingston could've cut it to 16-14 or even 16-10 there I believe the Jackets would have went for an onside kick with about five minutes to go. Heck they went for it on fourth down seven times tonight and I figured Coach Harrison would have rolled the dice again. Oh well, we can play the what-if game all night, but all-in-all a good game to watch and it will be a positive for Kingston heading into the offseason.
  22. Coalfield was focused on Greenback in the first half but Cloudland in the second. No matter how many times a coach can tell a kid to be ready, it's hard for kids to not look ahead when they blew them out the first time.
  23. CAK is by no means dink and dump. They take a lot of shot plays.
  24. Just checked them out. That's exactly what I needed. I'll need to check, but High maye have more passing yards than all five teams in Roane County combined. It's close.
