I'd like to add my congrats to FRA. To win on the road at Summertown would have to be very difficult for any team. FRA must have played a suffocating defense to go on a 21 - 0 run.

Interesting! I guess TC can play 3A in football, but play with 1A and 2A schools in basketball. Is that because they elected to play up one classification in football even though they were slated for 2A due to school size? Just curious.

Great win for NCS. Just goes to show, when you play a very good team from ANY classification, you better come ready to play.

CPA is playing the best BB they've ever played, with around 25 wins this season, many of those wins over very good opponents (Goodpasture, McEwen, Tn Temple, NCS, and others). If they keep playing like they are playing now, they could make a nice run in the tourneys. There are a lot of good teams in 1A, and not a lot of room for a bad game in the tourneys to keep going.

JV at 12, VG at 2, and VB around 3:30. As far as predicting the outcome of the game, I think it will depend on the bench of CPA. CPA has to play 4 games in five days starting last night vs FRA, then DCA at home next Friday. Coach Brooks may opt to rest the starters more frequently during the non-district games to save their legs. However, the CPA bench has shown it can play very well, so Lion fans have every reason to remain confident.

I guess that explains why things were so surly around our house for a few years.

Antwan, you're right. Some of my posts, as well as others, were off the original topic. I guess when anything like this comes up with 1A, it always gets back to the private/public thing. I would love to see more of the public 1A schools bottle what Trousdale Co had back in the 80's and 90's. Coach Satterfield's dad started the tradition, and his son is very capably carrying the tradition forward. I'm sure it got to the point where every boy in Trousdale Co that could walk with a football would have given their right arm to wear a Yellow Jacket uniform on autumn Friday nights. They got the ball rolling, set the expectations high, and have a lot of gold balls to prove it. Any kid who didn't give his best effort and then some probably got an earfull from their coaches. So what does that have to do with 1A next year? Only that the teams that have developed a tradition of high expectations and are willing to work hard should expect to win consistantly. From reading some of these posts, that is a struggle for some schools.

Reread my post, Antwan. I said WHEN Trousdale Co was in 1A, they beat the privates more often than not. Coach Satterfield and his staff always had his teams prepared, had great game plans, and maximized his players potential, just as he is doing in 3A now. THAT's what wins championships. And, I've got to believe he stresses off-season conditioning. I agree with OnlineLC that most any of the teams he had in the 90's WHEN they were in 1A could be right in the thick of things now in 1A. I know, because I saw 3 of those teams beat good CPA teams in the quarterfinals of 1A playoffs in 3 consecutive years. Not only beat, but often DOMINATE. All with kids that got off the yellow school bus.

I think Pujo has it right. Whoever works the hardest in the offseason has the best chance, whether public or private, Antwan. Even though Coach Satterfield in Trousdale Co is pretty opinionated about this subject, he beat the privates more often than not when they were in 1A. I suspect it was because he had his teams prepared, and that his players worked their tails off in the offseason.

Perhaps a game could be arranged between Fayette and SP.........

Most athletes in 1A football have to play both ways. I know Chris Wooden played linebacker in addition to running back. Is DCA losing another defensive starter if Matt Meacham can't play because of his ankle? That could be a huge factor if DCA doesn't have seasoned or capable replacements to Wooden and Meacham on defense.

How long has Fayette Academy been playing football? It seems that Bruceton, So Fulton or USJ has been the dominant 1A team in West TN for the last few years (Collinwood and Wayne Co being on the east side of the river in Middle TN). Will they be returning many starters? Sounds like another good team emerging in the West.

DCA played mistake free football, with the exception of 2 or 3 penalties, and made big plays when they needed them. CPA turns the ball over 3 times on drives where they were really clicking, and stops themselves. In spite of it all, the Lions made a game of it, and have nothing to be ashamed of. I feel for the seniors. Unless you are the state champs, the last game is always a bummer. With CPA's talented junior class, I feel great about them rebounding next year.

I'm sure DCA will be stronger this time around, if for no other reason the QB Fenwick will be more seasoned. He was just coming off an injury and had missed several games prior to the CPA game. CPA will need to play well all 4 quarters and limit turnovers, but I'm confident Coach Pack will be reminding them of that this week.

I look for the rematch to be closer than the last contest. Obviously, DCA has realized for them to win, they need to contain Luke Landers (thus control the line) and control turnovers.

Online, Jacky Ward will be my bodyguard and guide Friday night, so anybody who wants to get to me will have to go through him! Seriously, the wife and I looking forward to getting with Jacky and Tanya before the game Friday night. We're practically related since our boys are roommates, friends, and teammates at MTSU. We're also excited about being in Collinwood with the other great folks there. Vic, hope to meet you and Greenman!

After the DCA win last week, CPA was placed #1 for 1A in Earl Nall's Prep Performance ratings. That probably won't change this week.

As I recall, Boyd took a Region 5 1A team to overtime in the State Championship game last year.

I was looking at the tape of the 1A championship game from last year, and continue to be impressed by the play of Will Healy and William Nelson, among others. Are they playing ball in college somewhere?

FRA at CPA this Friday. The Lions sure can't take this on for granted. I saw this contest back in 2000. FRA had a great game plan, the Lions really couldn't get untracked. If an FRA field goal attempt hadn't sailed right, they would've won the game. I'm sure Coach Pack will remind the current team of that near loss, and the need to play well the entire game. ADAD, if your statement of an impending retirement is forthcoming, I'm sure the Panthers would like nothing more than to send off the coach with a victory over the Lions. Even though the Lions have had the upper hand the last few years, there have been some real battles on the hill and in the den, and over in Bellevue.

Well said, FBGirl, well said. The line made it possible for the big plays. I'm sure Coach Pack told the team they played great against a very good DCA team, and to enjoy the win until Monday. There's more to do.

I was a little surprised that CPA dominated the line the way they did, on both sides. DCA has good size up front. Landers doesn't need much room to get loose, but he had plenty to work with tonight. His speed and agility is something to see. Also kudos to Sikes, what a TD catch, he literally played jump ball and took it away from 2 defenders. Also, his heads up play and TD run on the blocked field goal. After tonight, I'm convinced it will take a mighty good football team to beat CPA the way they are playing now. DCA is a very talented team, just wasn't their night.

ReppenDCA, Josh Pollock (CPA QB) is a pretty tall kid himself. Certainly any height on DCA's line is an advantage, but Pollock may be one of the taller QBs DCA will have played against. Should be a good matchup.
