Wow! Congratulations to Coach Byrd and the Ladycats!!! State Champions!!! This was such an exciting game and both teams played great! Today was a great day to be a Wayne County Supporter.... State Champs and Carly Daniel was honored with Ms. Basketball, and Coach Byrd says goodbye with another Gold Ball and a final win! What a way to go out with an unbelievable career! Thanks Coach Byrd

Jim Brown is a good coach but an even better recruiter (which is against the rules). They are definitely the team to beat this year. It's hard to beat teams who recruits, just ask any of the coaches who used to try and beat Shelbyville when Rick Insell was there.. nearly impossible. Good luck to Loretto!

I wonder if Coach Brown from Santa Fe still thinks his team is 10 points better than WC? I laughed when I over heard him telling other coaches this. This is the 2nd straight year Coach Brown has said these remarks and WC has beaten them badly and eliminated them both years. Maybe he should think about not saying anything until after the game has been played. Good luck to WC as they play Loretto for the Region Championship!

We will get to see two great basketball games tonight! Trotter will be fired up as always and he will lead the Eagles to a win over MP by 8 points. It's a must win game or go home, Trotter thrives in these pressure situations. He is probably my favorite Coach to watch in the tournaments, his cockiness and arrogance is like no other. Good luck to Trotter and the Eagles. PC vs WC will be the game I am most interested in. PC has been victorious against WC twice this year but I'm not sure this goes in their favor. It's very hard to beat a team 3 times in a row (when the teams are pretty evenly matched, which they are) and tonight is a must win game. Saying this, the pressure is definitely on PC. I'm sure Willard and Sisk will have something up their sleeve that they have not shown yet while Hasting is probably going to have the same strategy in which he defeated WC the previous two games (which he should). I see WC playing a different game tonight winning by 4 points in a close well fought win. If PC does lose, will they fire Hasting for not making it to the State like they did Coach Lee? If so, who will take that position? Just wondering

I have seen a lot of girls basketball this year. My vote is going to Carly Daniel from Wayne County. She is very athletic and runs the floor better than any post player I have seen in the last five years. Carly is also a tremendous passer and her scoring ability speaks for itself. I feel like every time I see a box score she has gone for 25 pts and 8 or 9 rebounds. Good luck to her and the Ladycats from Wayne County.

I know these "play days" and "Hall of Fame games" are all we have to base things on right now but lets face it, these type games are really just scrimmage games. Most coaches do not want to show anything this early in the year so they will run basic motion and simple offenses (which is smart). So, it's hard to play we beat this team card at this point in the year. I don't think anybody would argue that Wayne Co and Creekwood (both teams with great head coaches) would be much harder to beat in the regular season and tournament play than a "play day" or "hall of fame game". So even if they play well and keep it close against Lake Co, I still don't think you can make a reliable comparison until district play starts.

No, they really are not a "Number 1 caliber team". If you are a PC fan, you might want to think you are, but honestly you are not. PC has good players but not great players. Any other year this would be a strong and competitive PC team, but district 12A is too strong this year. PC will have 6 district losses this year (2 from Loretto 2 from WC and 2 from Summertown) but should do well against their non-district schedule.

Good Luck to Sommer! She needed to move. She needed to be treated right and to play for a coach that gave her equal respect, which Morris did not. I heard Summertown was thinking about letting Morris go. Any of this true?

Great games tonight! That is what high school basketball tournament play is all about! Close games and last second shots! Congrats to Coach Franks and WC tonight, really nice job of staying in the game and not giving up. Also, congrats to Summertown, Trotter is a great coach and really gets his team motivated and ready to play. He cracks me up watching him coach! haha Looking forward to seeing a great game Thursday! Good luck to both teams Also, tough luck to Coach Lee, he did a great job this year and Perry Co is lucky to have him. It would be nice if Perry Co's fans had half as much class as he does. It's pretty embarrassing when fans walk by the floor screaming and pointing at the referees. Grow up, take a lesson from your Coach.

Willard has to get the most out of his players, he only has 8. haha He has ran everybody else off. That has hurt him in the years past. There was a couple of years where he could have won the state tournament (or at least went) if he would not have run girls off. He should be a guys coach, they can take the intensity better, and the language. haha Congrats to him for making it to the Region Finals and the Sub-State. Good luck

First of all, this might be the dumbest thread I have ever seen. Why would you even make a thread about "most unselfish players" and try to rank them? Thats ignorant. Then, everyone gets off to ranking the best player and who is better than who, and why one person shoots more than the other, and how one kid should go to college but the other shouldn't. My goodness, half of the time people who post on here honestly have no earthly idea what they are talking about. It is sad that coacht has become a place just to bash high school athletes instead of giving them confidence and trying to get the word out that a player might have a chance of getting a scholarship and playing collegiate sports. I have seen all of these teams play. There are some good players and athletes on a lot of the teams you guys are always talking about, (collinwood, wayne co, summertown, perry co) but I do not think anyone justify who the best is. Everyone would probably agree that Tyler Thompson, Tyler Rice, and Wes Long are most valuable to THEIR own team, but other than that, thats about it. Just leave it alone. It's sickening seeing so much garbage on here. Support your team and ALL the players in a positive way and let it be. Basketball is a fun sport for the players, try not to ruin it for them.

Looks like a great start for Wayne County (5-1) as they have beaten two really good teams; Cornersville and Lewis County. Wayne County might have the best freshman in the district (Kelsey Risner) and the most physical player in the district (Jessica Hammonds) so look out for Wayne County to make a run for district 12A champs. It does not hurt when you have Coach Byrd and the tradition on your side as well.

he is doing more than your doing... atleast he is giving them an opportunity to play and learn the game... byrd also has 2 other post players that are better than potete... does she even start? you definitely need to blam the game on the coach i mean that is what every parent does when their child's team looses... heaven forbid you say that the players blew the game... nice first quote by the way

wayne co will be pumped up like know other! its the district tournament championship and its held at wayne co! talk about an adrenaline rush!! wayne co should definitely have the upper hand... should be a great game to watch though.. wish i could be there! but good luck to wayne co and coach franks

nah your right coaching must not be that hard... heck its probably easier than your job... i mean there is no pressure what so ever in coaching... you dont have to deal with parents, i mean no one really even cares if you win... so you nailed it right on the head coaching isn't rocket science! brilliant comment

ok first of all you are wrong if you think you should be jacking up 3's with a 16 point lead (which that is all gipson is good for) with not alot of time left in the game.. you should look for the best shot preferably in the post..you dont run transition and jack up 3's but i forgive you for saying that because you are still in high school...second thing is the only reason his girls are coached up is because im pretty sure he does a thing called saturday league for elementary and middle school students and he also probably has some individual camps... and i have personally seen the middle school coaches... they are not on the top 10 most intelligent coaches list... your probably right some of the girls on his team probably does not like him, but it is probably the girls that never get to play and they are own the team just to hang out with friends... ask Molly York, Erica Davenport, and Abbry Haddock if they liked playing for him.. you might get a different answer

im pretty sure coach byrd knows his team alot better then anyone else so im sure there was a reason to take gipson out... i mean with a 16 point lead you dont need to make three's you need to pound it inside and get to the free throw line.. but im sure every other hick that watches these games thinks they know more then a coach who has won over 500 games... so that was a pretty smart comment about byrd taking gipson out and the guy that said another bad coaching move by byrd again... you guys must hunt deer for a living or something

the ladycats are known for doing good at tournament time, they have the byrd man coaching them. he definitely knows how to beat teams that are better than him. good luck girls hope yall can make it to the state for the 16 time.

my predictions wc will win the tournament Groucho better known as G-Unit will win district mvp and really i dont understand how people can actually try to give coach of the year to teams who are 4th and 5th in the district, thats really dumb. people saying that just because teams have great talent and win all their games but they dont believe the coach should get coach of the year is just moronic. the coach of the year should definitely be the ones who wins the most games every year. last year wc was number 1 in the district season and beat mt. pleasant 4 times and coach boyd was named coach of the year which he is a good coach but coach franks from wayne co definitely deserved it last year. so saying stuff like coach ellison and these other coaches who play close games but they never win should be named coach of the year is simply retarded.
